Maybe, just maybe it shouldn't cost close to 10k to even TRY to have a kid through IVF? More like 15k out of pocket costs till the Medicare rebate anyway.

1 in 6 aussie couples will struggle with infertility whilst 1 in 20 kids is born of IVF. https://monashivf.com/one-in-six/

1 in 6 couples. 1 in 20 babies. You can see a fair gap here. Unless your comfortably "middle class", you screwed. yes there are some public clinics with no gap, but the wait times are staggering. If we're worried about falling birth rates FULLY funding IVF and fertility treatments through Medicare is a no brainer.

The results are in! 🎶

Hey everyone!

Thank you for participating, I gathered the votes submitted until this morning and put together this little graphics to announce the results, it looks like The Northern Boys were a clear favourite with their eccentric yet catchy song ; Azahriah and Bagarre, both ex-aequo, follow them closely in second position.

Congratulations to everyone for submitting great songs!

The ranking is based on the average position out of every vote, here are the details:

  1. The Northern Boys - Sexy Train (avg. rank : 3.4)
  2. Azahriah - Introvertált dal (4.2)
  3. Bagarre - On est les mêmes (4.2)
  4. Royel Otis - Heading for the Door (4.5)
  5. Tiki Taane - Tangaroa (4.6)
  6. Cassette Beasts - Your Inception (4.9)
  7. Pil - Dronning af månen - (5.0)
  8. Lu Kala - Hotter Now (5.2)
  9. Puggy - Lost Child (5.5)

The ranks are super close, I personally liked every single song and it was hard to have to rank them, because the last position didn't necessarily mean the song was bad.

But wait there's more! Here's a ranking based on how many time each song was ranked first :

  1. The Northern Boys - Sexy Train (21 times ranked first!)
  2. Tiki Taane - Tangaroa (13)
  3. Bagarre - On est les mêmes (10)
  4. Azahriah - Introvertált dal (8)
  5. Royel Otis - Heading for the Door (8)
  6. Lu Kala - Hotter Now (4)
  7. Pil - Dronning af månen (3)
  8. Cassette Beasts - Your Inception (2)
  9. Puggy - Lost Child (1)

That means every single song submitted was at least one person's favourite song, which is heartwarming, everyone got to discover new music!

There's even more! Here's a small list of every instance's most favourite songs (the songs that were most ranked highest for each instance), Belgium sadly didn't vote :

  • Australia (aussie.zone) : The Northern Boys & Tiki Taane
  • Canada (lemmy.ca) : The Northern Boys
  • Denmark (feddit.dk) : The Northern Boys
  • France (jlai.lu) : The Northern Boys, Royel Otis
  • Hungary (!hungary@lemmy.world) : Tiki Taane
  • New Zealand (lemmy.nz) : Pil
  • Programming.dev (programming.dev) : The Northern Boys
  • United Kingdom (feddit.uk) : Bagarre, Tiki Taane, Lu Kala
  • 3rd party voters : The Northern Boys, Bagarre, Royel Otis

Again, I want to reiterate how thankful I am that y'all participated. I didn't expect any response at all for such a niche event in such a niche social media, it was scary to be responsible that everything goes smoothly, but so rewarding to see people coming together and sending songs, and discovering new music from you!

What's next for Lemmyvision?

I'm going to keep the community open if you want to use it to share lesser known songs from where you're from, that you'd like people to discover, feel free to use !lemmyvision@jlai.lu as you wish, as long as it's in the spirit of this contest.

Obviously another edition will happen, and hopefully with more people, as Lemmy grows, and gathers more users, and I manage to make contact with more instances, there is an opportunity to discover even more music! If you'd like to help, feel free to send a message too!

However, I do like the idea of having smaller scale, thematic, events, or just prompts in between, like how the speedrunning event AGDQ has the SQDG in summer ; I'll think about something, but feel free to share ideas as well.

Thank you, and see you next year for Lemmyvision 2 !! 🎶

Once again, someone who gave clear warning signs they were a risk was released into the community and the community has paid the price. When someone tells you who they are, you listen. Unless you're a judge apparently? Why do personal freedoms seem to trump the risk to the greater public?

The senior officer, Amy Scott, was conducting routine duties nearby when she was directed to head to Westfield shopping centre following reports a man was using a “massive” knife to stab shoppers.

Within minutes, the officer was inside the centre and began chasing the offender.

“This all happened very, very quickly,” the deputy commissioner of police, Tony Cooke, said.

“The officer was in the near vicinity, attended on her own, was guided to the location of the offender by people who were in the centre and she took the actions that she did, saving a range of people’s lives.”

Albanese thanked the officer, other police, first responders and the “everyday people” who reacted to help victims.

Man, first the Stokes Stoush, now the facebook right hook. Twiggys making enemies with all the big media companies.

I haven't read why the public prosecutor isn't pursuing this. I'm sure it'll be some reasonable reason due to some legislation the prosecutors can't get around. Or something to that effect.

But this case seems emblimatic of the corporate geared legislative structure the five-eyes countries citizens have had foisted upon them. Yet again an obviously in the wrong company is walking away laughing as their pockets jingle, while the damage caused by their products to third parties goes largely unrestrained. Do we really want to carry on down this path?

For context this morning i've also been listening to Ralph Nader, so thats where my minds at right now.

Uhlmann said:

I have watched the network since its inception and have always admired its commitment to journalism through straight-shooting broadcasters like Kieran Gilbert and Laura Jayes.

In 2010 I helped establish ABC News 24 and had a brutal reality check on just how hard it is trying to keep pace with Sky.

Commitment to journalism my arse. And he's going to be on Credlin's program. Next step: regular panelist on Outsiders.

What an absolute buffoon.

  • In short: One of the first cashless gaming trials in NSW found the technology made little difference to the behaviour of gamblers.
  • The Wests New Lambton trial has received criticism from gambling reform advocates, who say it did not include a card with binding and default limits.
  • What's next?: The Independent Panel on Gaming Reform will provide findings from an expanded statewide cashless gaming trial.

In short? Authorities say Molly the magpie will be returned to its original carers on the condition they make no commercial gain from the bird.

The couple, who have had the bird for four years, run a popular Instagram account and have signed a book deal.

What's next? The environment department will work with the couple to ensure the magpie is properly cared for.

...

The department said in a statement that independent expert veterinary advice had shown that Molly was highly habituated and may have developmental issues, meaning he can never be rehabilitated or returned to the wild.

Good news they've put the condition on in this particular instance, but you can guarantee other Instatockers who want their five minutes of fame will be out there collecting whatever they can get their selfish mitts on to try and be the next big thing.

Data compiled by The Australian Financial Review shows key metrics in the critical bilateral relationship have failed to return to levels before ties soured under the Turnbull and Morrison governments, and in some cases are shrinking.

More than a year after China scrapped its zero-COVID policies, the country remains more isolated from Australia and the rest of the world, as President Xi Jinping warns his citizens to watch out for foreign spies and ramps up national security crackdowns.

At the same time as nationalism inside the country rises, the United States and its allies are bolstering defence alliances to try to deter China’s territorial ambitions over Taiwan and parts of the South China Sea. They are also ramping up efforts to cut off China’s access to technology and break its dominance of key industries, such as critical minerals.

Data, which has long been a measure of the strength of Sino-Australian relations, and interviews with key players suggest that although political tensions have eased in recent months economic engagement between both countries is yet to increase significantly. And it is not expected to return to pre-pandemic levels, despite Beijing withdrawing its economic coercion tactics, including wine tariffs last month.

Just like colesworth suppliers, plant nurseries and other suppliers suffer the same way as highlighted in recent news and inquiries into the supermarket sector.

Ward said the impact of bleaching had been extensive across 16 sites that she visited in the reef’s southern section, affecting coral species that had usually been resistant to bleaching. Some coral had started to die, a process that usually takes weeks or months after bleaching occurs.

“I feel devastated,” she said. “I’ve been working on the reef since 1992 but this [event], I’m really struggling with.”

As do I Dr. Ward, with ever election result reinforcing the deveststation of the orthodoxy and the disregard my fellow citizens have for a livable biosphere.

The country's parliament recently passed a measure - backed by PM Anthony Albanese - calling for the return of Mr Assange to his native Australia.

The US wants to extradite the 52-year-old from the UK on criminal charges over the leaking of military records.

Mr Assange denies the charges, saying the leaks were an act of journalism.

The president was asked about Australia's request on Wednesday and said: "We're considering it."

Australia’s public schools will miss out on $13bn in the next five years if accounting tricks are maintained in upcoming funding agreements, a major report has found.

The National School Resourcing Board’s (NSRB) annual review, tabled in parliament last week, showed government schools lost more than $2bn in 2022 because of a Morrison-era loophole that allows states and territories to claim up to 4% of public school funding on non-school expenditures.

The federal education minister, Jason Clare, has indicated the 4% will not be reviewed until the next round of funding agreements – scheduled for 2030.

Modelling provided to Guardian Australia by the Save our Schools convener, Trevor Cobbold, suggests if Clare’s position remains, public schools will miss out on about $13bn in funding to the end of the decade.

The sovereign citizen movement rejects the legitimacy of the government. Its fast-growing popularity has had authorities scrambling to get a handle on how far its tentacles have reached.

Unfortunately, Mr Oxby was persuaded by this theory during the seminar, which I infer from his evidence, was presented in a persuasive and charismatic manner."

He was ultimately fined $14,000.
