We have an announcement about the future of Cities: Skylines II. Cities will journey on with a new developer at the helm.

After more than a decade of successful collaboration across numerous titles that we’re both immensely proud of, Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order have mutually decided to pursue independent paths, and Iceflake Studios will take the reins on the development of Cities: Skylines II at the start of 2026. The decision was made thoughtfully and in the interest of both teams - ensuring the strongest possible future for the Cities: Skylines franchise.

Before year-end, the Bike Patch and a first implementation of Asset Mods will be available to you as a player.

You can read more about it here: https://pdxint.at/49QDwfo

We have also shared an FAQ that you can find here: https://pdxint.at/4nQPSYh

Hello Mayors!

Bikes are coming to your cities!

Colossal Order has written a Developer Diary where they go over the bike system, the new bike lanes, biking policies, and the buildings that are required to optimize bike use in your city. You can read it here: https://pdxint.at/BikeDD

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL!

The Bike Patch also comes loaded with other assets and fixes! Five new Service Buildings, including new sizes of Wind Power, more transportation, with new Stations and Depots, new parks, AND a whole new type of Building zone-type! There will be new “Old Town” Residential and Mixed for both NA and EU styles.

And of course, there’s also a bunch of fixes, like further tweaking to the balancing that we added in the Bridges & Ports Patch, that should hopefully fix the large amount of pedestrians walking all over your cities. With the addition of the green that you will be able to add to your roads, we have also tweaked the color of the bus lanes, and they should be a little more pleasing to the eye. And much, much more…

The Bike Patch releases tomorrow, Wednesday, 19 November 2025. Get your helmet ready!

The free patch is due to arrive at Wednesday, 19 November 2025

😌 Don't Panic

  • Compared with last time, this is going to be a pretty chill patch day - nearly 90% of the mods reviewed are known to work with the new game version
  • We tested 250+ mods and only 22 need an update
  • 6 have updates ready to go
  • 14 will only get access to the patch at the same time you do

📰 How to keep up to date with news before and during patch day

  • Install Skyve and use its built-in compatibility reporting to know when your modlist is good to go after the updates are released
  • On Desktop: Check the Community-led Testing Initiative spreadsheet to get a sense ahead of time whether your mods are going to be affectedOn Mobile: Check out Skyve on the Web (n.b., compatibility data for this patch will only be visible once the patch goes live). The "changelog" section at the bottom of every mod's description is the most reliable source of info on specific mods

Where to find more general info The patch notes will be available on the Paradox Forums at 09:00 once the update goes live. Remember, mod creators have real-world commitments and may live in time zones which are not compatible with the time of the release. This could mean they can't immediately publish updates to PDX Mods even if they were prepared beforehand. Please have patience while these updates are pushed live. Do not bug, annoy, or harass creators to update their mods: real life comes first.

Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive have ended their partnership on Cities: Skylines, with it moving onto a new developer.

The announcement posted on the Paradox forum notes they've "mutually decided to pursue independent paths "with the decision being made "thoughtfully and in the interest of both teams - ensuring the strongest possible future for the Cities: Skylines franchise". So now further development of the Cities franchise will move to Iceflake Studios, who Paradox acquired back in 2020. Iceflake will be taking over all existing and future development of Cities: Skylines II so that players "will be able to look forward to new updates and content drops for many years".

Taking a look at the first expansion pack to Cities Skylines 2! TWO YEAR LATER. How much do modular ports and new bridges add to the game, is it worth the asking price, and has the base game experience improved much since 2023? Well, I have some thoughts...

The latest patch for the new Bridges & Ports DLC for Cities: Skylines II changes quite some stuff under the hood. This requires many mods to be updated to be compatible with the new version, even though no major changes in the Mods' code should be required.

If you're a modder yourself, most mods should work fine after recompiling again after the update, so if your mod is included in a list as "broken", it could be as simple as that.

If you can't log in, or your mods won't initialise, nothing can be done until Amazon resolves their outage.

If you are playing (or want to play) vanilla and are facing issues with PDX Mods failing to initialise, add --disableModding to the Steam Launch Options for the game. This will completely disable the modding subsystem (make sure you remove the launch command once the outage is resolved).

New avenues are being built, while other roads are obstructed as they are being remodeled. This is how the city is preparing to receive the first subway lines, which will revolutionize local public transport and give commuters a more comfortable way to travel.
