Solar events as well as nuclear can cause an EMF pulse that destroys all transistors, thus inherently all DAB radios. Or has someone managed to build an EMF-proof DAB transmitter and receiver using vacuum tubes?

Post-Internet, radio has surely lost listenership. From there, I think it’s fair to say that emergency/apolyptic scenarios that would kill both household Internet and TVs, essentially making analog radio quite important. If FM is decommissioned, do we compromise the option of broadcasting to survivalists who have tubes receivers?

Consider that in extreme events like an EMF pulse, Denmark is fucked. They eliminate their postal service this year and they will eliminate FM radio. They seem to have no concept of minimising points of failure for any sort of robust engineering, as they create apartment building laundry rooms with washing machines that cannot function without the cloud and electronic payment. Denmark apparently sets a good example of what /not/ to do in the face of digital transformation.

I'm aware the bot has been a bit noisy recently. I upgraded it to Trixie and this fixed a long-standing issue with it not posting updates.

Unfortunately it turns out the signal is unstable, possibly because the entire setup is a bit flaky and I moved it somewhere more accessible, likely with worse reception.

I'm going to work on the code to stop it reporting things that haven't happened (I may also move it back to where it was). Until then, beware reports of channels leaving and returning two hours later.

I have some cheap DAB radios with shitty amplifiers, which have clipping. Not sure if that’s the right term, but on volumes above the 4th level the quality goes to shit (depending on the accoustic frequency). At the same time, I need more volume because I’m running a fan as summer heats up.

So I put two shitty DAB radios in the same room on the same channel at levels just below the clipping. I knew this would happen: they decode at different speeds so the speakers are out of sync. The device that has an auxillary input is the one with the crappiest speaker.

FM does not have this issue. So if you go to a Critical Mass demonstration where hundreds of cyclists converge and ride together, sometimes they are organised enough that one person broadcasts tracks on an unused FM channel and everyone else with speakers can tune in to that station. That would not work well after DAB replaces FM, and FM radios become obsoleted.

Bluetooth is not exactly up to the task. The consumer grade BT gear is very short ranged. And I think most consumer grade BT devices are 1-to-1 pairing. Not sure if the 1-to-many long-range bluetooth transmitters are affordable.
