The keyboard on my Framework 13 (Intel 12th Gen) has started to act up a little bit. The way that it is manifesting at the moment is that the top-right key (DEL/Insert) sometimes does not register and sometimes register double clicks.

Is this a case of replacing the keyboard, or will have to change the whole top cover?

The October 2024 edition of Linux Mint’s Monthly News brings exciting updates, including a significant announcement about collaboration with Framework Laptops, having potential to advance Mint’s compatibility with hardware designed with flexibility, repairability, and sustainability in mind.

For those unfamiliar, unlike most traditional laptops, which are often difficult or impossible to repair or upgrade, Framework laptops are built to be user-friendly, making it easy to replace or upgrade components. This modular approach extends the laptop’s lifespan and promotes sustainability by reducing e-waste.

I have two nvme disks on my my framework laptop, one for the OS and one for data. Started using it a bit more often these past weeks. One day, I forgot to suspend it before putting it in my backpack. When I got home and opened it, I noticed it was very hot but things seemed to be working fine.

Last week, it started showing some issues when booting and yesterday it completely failed. I wasn't so worried because I thought it was only the OS disk, but during fsck my main data partition was gone as well.

So, I guess that overheating is responsible for the disk failures. I'm wondering if there is a way to reduce the chance of this happening, and/or any recommended setting for BIOS to protect it (maybe undervolting?)

I have a recurring issue where MS Teams makes my Framework run insanely hot. It then disconnects audio halfway through calls. Video still works, but looses audio. GPU hardware acceleration has no affect.

It's extremely frustrating when on client calls.

Only common factors are me and the framework - all other setups no issue.

Any ideas?

Does anyone know if protective shells exist for framework laptops?

Or is there something approximately close that'll fit?

I know they're repairable etc but if I can avoid denting the sucker it'd be great.

If not, I know (just) enough to model one on blender if someone fancied 3d printing one? I'm sure that's not beyond the realm of possibility

Edit: thank you, so it seems I have to finally put it inside the Framework :)

Just a doubt, the kit arrived without a proper package but just like this:

inside the main package with other items of the same order. Is it normal? It doesn't seem to me very protective for a quite expensive product. Actually it seems quite strange, I'm starting to suspect that was someone's return that has not included the original package:

For instance I bought also a SSD and it was inside two carboard packages of his own.

What about your kit?

Hello,

I'm struggling to find all the seemingly relevant information regarding the RAM offered by Framework.

I'm in queue for a Framework 13 AMD variant, and I'm stuck weighing up my options for which RAM to purchase.

So far as I can tell, For DDR5 5600 SO-DIMM RAM to be fully utilised you need XMP support for some products on the market. I understand that the firmware on the Framework motherboards don't support XMP profiles currently. I also understand that the lower the CL rating the better the product is by one metric. I also understand that to fully utilise your RAM you should have two sticks so that dual channel benefits occur.

With this and other information in mind I want to get 1x32gb DDR5, another in the future, That has the lowest CL That natively can reach 5600hz without an XMP profile.

I'm looking at both Framework's RAM and Kingston Fury.

I can't find much information on Framework's RAM.

I recall Kingston FURY needs XMP to be fully utilised with a CL of 40.

Is Framework's option better in that it doesn't need an XMP profile to be fully utilised? How does the CL rating compare to Kingston FURY?

Ignoring the price, which is the better product?

Excuse if I have misunderstood anything.

Thank you for your help

Edit: I can't find a spec sheet for Framework's RAM options. There website to me was very bare. Does anyone have information on this? Thank you.

I'm supposed to be getting my AMD board for my Framework tomorrow. I'm currently running a 12th gen board, with the 80db speaker kit and whichever Intel wifi card came with the laptop. I've heard that the original speaker kit (I still have it) actually is better with the AMD board, and that the AMD mediatek wifi card is not as good as the intel card. Is it worth swapping the old speakers back in and keeping the Intel wifi card? Thanks for any advice!

Does anyone know how the fan speed of the framework laptop 13 is controlled? Is it hardware based or does there exist software or API with which you can tweak your fan curve.

I'm just curious to know it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone tried limiting their Framework Intel 12th Gen laptops CPU max frequencies to a more efficient level to see if battery life is increased?

I remember reading an article somewhere that says that Golden Cove P-Cores efficiency is around 3-4Ghz, Gracemont E cores are efficient below 3GHz.

So my AMD 13 arrived today I've installed my ram and SSD. Connected the keyboard and fully charged the battery.

I've gone to do a test boot before installing windows and nothing is happening except for the power button light coming on. I've seen people mention a led flashing colours but there's no led's flashing. Have I done something wrong? Is it broken or is this just what it does without a os installed?
