I don't think anyone is surprised to hear that GW2 has a bit of an issue when it comes to getting new folks into raiding. Groups require a ton of KP, and people struggle to find training runs. And yes, I know there are guilds dedicated for that, but not everyone knows about them, and it can be intimidating for some folks jumping into massive servers.

So I wanna do my own training raids. Not really with any schedule, just wanna pop in LFG and see if I can get some folks whenever the feeling strikes me (pun intended :P). The only thing stopping me right now is that I'm a bit nervous about not being the best at it. I'm not super comfortable talking to stranger in voice chat, which might make explaining mechanics more difficult. So with that in mind, a couple questions:

  1. Are folks generally okay doing training runs without voice chat and having everything explained via text?

  2. Do folks that have run training raids have any tips for making runs go a bit smoother?

World of Warcraft Classic Classic (Not a typo. I know.) is running its Scarab Lord event right now and toxicity is at an all-time high over there because everyone's stressed out trying to get the bug mount which is pretty much the biggest status symbol in the game's history.

And that got me thinking. What's ours? There's no such thing as a rare mount so the rule of "No one will remember you, but they'll remember your mount" doesn't apply here. So I'm curious to see what you guys think!

I like that ArenaNet is expanding housing with new layouts in the upcoming expansion, but one of the most important features is still missing from homesteads: something that encourages social interaction between players. We still don't have a open directory where you can search for and visit other homesteads.

We still don't have a neighborhood feature. If I want to see other players homesteads, I have to search for people who are decorating their plot in the chat and ask them if I can visit. This is much more complicated than many other housing systems made it.

I would like to show other players my housing plot and all the great things I have built.

TLDR: Wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. Took me a week of playing 2-3 hours every night.

I’ve started playing in November, and have been working my way through the story on my main character (a Guardian Dragonhunter). I finished Living World Season 4 about a week ago, and decided to go for the Skyscale before moving on to Icebrood Saga. I got my Skyscale last night. It took almost exactly a week. I play about 2-3 hours every night, so I would estimate it took about 12-15 hours of playtime, since I didn’t quite dedicate every session to 100% Skyscale acquisition.

This is not a guide, but I’d like to share my observations and maybe a few tips if you’re still going for it. It wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. Everybody says that the Skyscale grind is real, but I don’t really think so. It really wasn’t that bad. Mostly it involved running around the world and doing pretty simple tasks. The biggest pain was definitely Skyscale Lost (majority jumping puzzles), but I have a few comments about that below.

As always, the Wiki is invaluable. If you’re playing this game and not using the Wiki, then I just don’t know what to say to that. Also, I used the CommonTate Guides - Skyscale Collection playlist on YouTube, which is basically a step by step guide. It’s a tiny bit out of date, because some things have changed, but the changes are mentioned in the comments for the appropriate videos, so it’s pretty straightforward. The biggest difference I noticed is how the skyscale food task is time-gated. Apparently it used to reset every 2 hours, but now it takes a full day until server reset, so it will take 2+ days just for that task since you have to do it 3 times. That was the biggest bottleneck for me. I ended up making my own food rather than buying it, but I did have to grind for about 50 piles of Bloodstone dust, because Mawdray had eaten recently, so I didn’t have a lot of excess. I did that during one of the cooldowns, so I didn’t lose any time doing that grinding.

For the Saving Skyscales collection, I know that Derilect Dive / Rune Locked Doors is a problem for a lot of people. I had already done it in the past, so I just popped into each room, got what I needed and got out. It’s definitely a longer puzzle if you have to do it the first time for the Skyscale (Still haven’t gotten all of the Dwarven Artifacts from there).

As I said, the biggest challenge was Skyscale Lost. The 2 world bosses were easy. I had done them a few times before, so they were not new to me. I just checked the event timer and showed up when I needed to. The two biggest pains were the Branded Layline Anomaly in the Domain of Vabbi and Goemm’s Lab in Metrica Province. Most of the other JPs I had done at least once, and a couple of them were pretty easy to cheese.

I had a hard time even getting to the Branded Layline Anomaly and when I did, someone was fighting him. It was at 60% health or so. I used my Extra-Pungent Skyscale Treat immediately, since that’s the suggestion on the Wiki, but it turned out to be a waste. I hung around and helped fight the Anomaly, and we actually defeated him, which meant I hadn’t needed the treat. It took a while to beat, but the two of us handled him. I stupidly opened the chest then, which triggered him again, so we both bailed.

For Goemm’s Lab, I tried to do it the right way, but after several deaths and getting kicked out because I wasn’t attuned right, I decided to just cheese it and went in the back way. Someday I might do it correctly, but not today. The other JPs I cheesed were ones that I had finished before, and one of them (Coddler’s Cove) I actually did the right way this time, because the only other time I had passed it was for a weekly and I had gotten Mesmered to the chest.

For the jumping puzzles, having the Prototype Position Rewinder was a big help in some of them. If you don’t have it and you’re going for the Skyscale, you should go get one. You can get it pretty early in Living World Season 4, so whatever prerequisites you need would have already been done.

For the saddle, I had almost all of the map currencies already, because I’ve been trying to do the “Return to…” achievements as I play. I was short for Domain of Istan, but I was able to do a quick adventure and finish harvesting wood to get the 250 map currency I needed.

For the final task where you have to fly to 28 rifts, I just used the YouTube guide to find them and it was super easy. The only one I had a problem with was the one in Desert Highlands. There were a bunch of harpies guarding it and they kept shooting me down. I had to clear a few of them out first, then rush back to the “Flying Lesson” circle at the top of the cliff and then race back before they respawed. They still knocked me down after I cleared it. I enacted vengeance on a few more of them before leaving the area.

Anyway, my takeaway is that if you’ve been playing the game and didn’t just try to rush to the Skyscale, it’s really not that difficult. You should have all the currencies you need (or at least be close), and all the gold. You could definitely do it faster than me, or you could take your time and spread it out a little more. Either way, it wasn’t really that tough. I can't imagine what it was like in the old days doing it without a guide, but now it's really not that tough.

Good morning/afternoon/evening all,

I'm here to rant and I'm going to do my best to keep this subjective and exclude any personal opinions as best as I can on this topic. Please take a second and read the journey of this one infusion and take it what you will. My purpose is to just let the community to be aware that this occurred since Anet has kept pretty silent about it.

7/28/2020 – Initial Release

  • The northern part of Drizzlewood Coast map was opened, introducing the Frost Legion Infusion, obtainable via:

3/11/2025 – Convergence CM (JW) Released

"Fixed an issue that prevented BLING-9009 from displaying any new items after completing challenge mode."

  • The Scavenged Frost Legion Infusion was intended to be purchasable as of 6/24 (most likely) but was bugged/invisible and no one caught this mistake.
  • Once fixed, the cost was...
    • 5 × Fractal Journals
    • 50 × Integrated Fractal Matrices
    • 2000 × Unstable Fractal Essences
    • 250 × Globs of Ectoplasm

✅ Key issue: The infusion was not account-bound once opened, and there was no purchase limit.

➡️ Players could buy and resell freely on the Trading Post.

7/16/2025 – Hotfix & Restriction

"Fixed an issue that caused the Scavenged Frost Legion Infusion to be sold for an incorrect price."

  • New vendor price...
    • 5 × Fractal Journals
    • 50 × Integrated Fractal Matrices
    • 2000 × Unstable Fractal Essences
    • 5000 × Globs of Ectoplasm

  • Purchase limited to one per account

This has been the journey of a single infusion. No opinions here — just laying out the events and facts so others can see what happened and decide for themselves.

Just thought I’d put it out there because I’m seeing loads of content creators I’ve never seen before getting their Anet partnerships- which can only be good for us all!

My initial reaction was SO cynical but ultimately these people have been working towards this so I’m happy for them, and happy for the community.

Buckle up and get ready for a brief essay I just typed up at one in the morning

So, troubadour, minstrel, and bard - they all pretty much mean the same thing, right? Wrong!

Believe it or not, despite these words being synonms, they don't mean the exact same thing and each have a different connotations - this is the case with most synonyms

Minstrel has the more loose connotation - it simply describes a singer or poet of any kind, usually within the context of entertainment in the middle ages

Minstrels would sing songs and tell stories through performance, in exchange for meals and coin

They were entertainers, and made people merry and laugh and sing - much like a band or singer would today at a concert

Bard has a more specific connotation regarding epics - whereas minstrels were simple entertainers, bards were keepers of oral tradition; they would sing songs and tell stories about great heroes and notable feats, and as such kept the history of a culture alive

While not uncommon for a bard to also have experience with an instrument, the primary focus of their songs were their voice, and any instrumentals were simple accompaniment, if they were present at all

Most people during that time period were completely illiterate, and could not read or write - as such, written history, while kept, was not readily accessible to the masses

The common man wouldn't pick up a book and read about the Battle for Lion's Arch, they would instead listen to a bard (or village elder) regale them with the tale of the heroic shining blade defending Queen Salma against the terrible mursaat

A minstrel would sing a dandy song about Logan Thackeray and his unrequited love for the queen, a bard would sing an epic ballad about Eir Stegalkin and the champion of the great hunt slaying the dreadwyrm Issormir

Then you have the troubadour, who has a connotation of sophistication - unlike minstrels and bards, troubadours were often of noble birth, and as such, carried a high degree of elegance and respect within noble and royal courts

Their songs were more in the realm of entertainment than oral tradition - closer to minstrels than bards - but unlike minstrels their songs were far more lyrical in nature, and often dealt with themes of love, chivalry, and artistic expression

As they were of a higher social class, troubadours were more likely to be educated, and you would find them within a high-society party, or perhaps playing for the monarch or high lords if they were especially well-regarded

They had a degree of elegance to them, and their lyrics tended to be more sophisticated with more complex themes, due to their education, and they often were practiced in more than one instrument - unlike minstrels and bards

To use a modern metaphor: if a minstrel is a pop singer and a bard is a folk singer, then a troubadour is an opera singer

So why does troubadour fit mesmer best? Well classic mesmers carry a level of elegance to them, and are much more fitting in a noble archetype - they wear fine cloths of royal purple, and dress in venetian-esque masks

Within canon, the most common mesmers are within the nobility of divinity's reach, such as our good friend Kasmeer Meade and Countess Anise, and even the queen herself is a mesmer of renown

As such, it wouldn't fit a mesmer very well to carry themselves as a cultural storyteller, telling an epic narrative around a bonfire, nor would they be singing a song in a tavern for their next meal

No, a mesmer would be versed in several instruments both tangible and illusory, and they would weave siren songs of love and elegant lyrical harmonies - all while wearing their classic, over the top fashion and a fancy mask

As such, only a troubadour could really capture that essence, and as such, it's a far more fitting name for a mesmer specialization than a bard or minstrel

Thanks for coming to my TED talk, I rant a lot about mostly useless information - enjoy your weekend

thinking about the potential plot to Visions of Eternity, I assume the Inquest are out in Castora trying to create their own Dragon after well the last 10 or so years of plot.

Castora has heaps of ley magic, easy to feed a baby dragon (or an immediately adult, robotic one)

The Inquest arguably knows more about Elder Dragons than any other faction or body on Tyria

"What would you sacrifice for power?" as a tagline seems very out of place with what theyve shown so far, but in terms of power, theres not really something stronger than an Elder Dragon.

Im not so interested in already going back to Elder Dragons but even these small breadcrumbs lead me to believe thats what theyre going for with the Inquest hiding away surrounded by errant magic.

Now that I've gone and updated the banners for the new expansion I thought of doing something extra this year thanks to the extra pinned threads available on new/sh reddit and mobile. So this will be a megathread for Visions of Eternity information as it's released over the next few months. This thread may be replaced on old reddit by the beta thread when that comes out and any other necessary megathreads.

ALL INDIVIDUAL POSTS AND DISCUSSION ARE STILL ALLOWED. I want to be very clear on that, this is not any attempt to shut down discussion but just to have a central post where users can come for information and I'm also going to add links to various discussion threads below as well.

Official Pages:

Wiki Page for the Expansion that has a detailed breakdown of everything included from content to cosmetics:

This year’s addition to my/WP's ongoing project!

The classic Guild Wars 2 Beta login screen (used in alpha and beta builds between 2010 and 2012) has gained somewhat of a cult following over the years, with many people nostalgic about it or wishing for it to return in some form. Here is my take on a mockup of how this could have looked for Guild Wars 2: Visions of Eternity, had anet continued to use it.

Feel free to use it for any purpose; wallpapers, video backgrounds etc! Just mention my name (MrModius) and a link to here/the video if anyone asks where you got it!
