I recently made the choice to rebuild my whole Home Assistant ecosystem from scratch. Overall, I'm happy I did it because everything is MUCH more reliable but it was a ton of work to even get back to a mostly functional state and frankly... I'm pooped.

In addition to all this, I've taken on new responsibility's at work and I just don't have the time or energy I thought I would.

Overall Im looking for someone to set the dashboard back up. I've reconnected all my devices, configured them, reimported all of my automations, redid my helpers etc etc, All that's left now is a good dashboard with a sleek UI.

If you think you can help out please DM me and/or leave a comment.

  • I wrote together this blog post detailing how you can setup stockholm lokaltrafik (metro/bus/train) which has an open API to get the next departures. Then pipe the data into node-red, which gets triggered using a voice assistant and then returns the departure times. The code could be adjusted to work for other cities and is rather easy once you figure out how to write functions in node-red
  • The only thing I still struggle with is getting which speaker was the one that triggered the button in node-red. Has anyone managed to solve this issue? I saw a few solutions with checking last used speaker, but the data comes too late.

For the longest time, my bluetooth devices (switchbot curtains, Aquarium lights etc) would take forever to respond or not at all.

I had about 4 or 5 of the Aitrip ESP32 WROOM modules acting as proxies around the house.

On a whim, I bought the official Espressiff ESP32-C6 to play with it (ESP32-C6-DevKitM-1-N4), especially since it has an RGB LED on board and dual Type C plugs.

I add this as a proxy too and powered off the existing ESP32 modules to test it.

Wow, the difference was night and day. Every bluetooth device now responds almost instantly and reliably.

Another thing I noticed is the WiFi is much more stable. For example ESPHome OTA updates took forever with the previous modules but the DevKit is quick.

Not sure if the DevKit has better RF design but looking closely at my old modules, I noticed some solder joints for the GPIO pins were very poor. In one case, one of the GPIO pins just pulled out with no effort. So I think the RF section may not have been that good either.

I made a video in response to a lot of questions on how I created the floorplan images in my previous post.

See this comment for a full listing of plugins, tools and attributions used in my dashboards so far.

Oh hi!

We’re proposing to stop supporting two installation methods officially:

  • Home Assistant Core (running directly in a Python environment)
  • Home Assistant Supervised (running the full stack on your own operating system)

Additionally, we’re planning to discontinue official support for two older architectures:

  • i386 (32-bit x86)
  • armhf (32-bit ARM hard float)

We'd love to pick your brains before it's official. Read more about it here:

I’ve got ADHD, and focusing on tasks has always been a struggle, for as long as I can remember, whether I’m at home or at work.

But a few months ago, I got into Home Assistant, and it’s been a total game-changer. For whatever reason, I can spend hours (or even days) messing around with automations. Just when I think I’m done, a new idea randomly pops into my head and I’m back at it, trying something totally different.

HA hits all the sweet spots for my ADHD:

  1. Hyper-focus – I can get completely lost in it.
  2. Instant feedback – Either it works, or it doesn’t. Simple.
  3. Creative problem-solving – There’s Always a fun challenge that comes to be just before bed, to figure out. 🤣
  4. Control and structure – Helps bring some order to the chaos in my head!

Anyone else in the same boat?

Edit : while we are all here… here’s my new challenge: I have a floor standing dumb fan in my bedroom. (I could go without food and drink but I can’t sleep without the fan on, doesn’t matter the weather - lol)

The fan is plugged into a smart switch. Easy. However, the fan also has speed control via 3 buttons. How do I entiti-fy those buttons? 🤔

I came across an archived post about visualizing temperature data as a heatmap in Home Assistant — and wanted to share what we’ve been building with Zircon3D.

Zircon3D is a 3D floorplan visualization add-on for Home Assistant that lets you control devices and display sensor data in a fully interactive 3D layout. One of the coolest features is the real-time thermal heatmap layer, which shows live temperature and humidity readings directly on the floorplan.

We offer a free tier that supports up to 25 sensors, which is more than enough to generate a detailed heatmap of your smart home.

It’s easy to set up, and integrates smoothly via a Home Assistant add-on.

Here’s a quick video showing how to set it up in just a few minutes:

You can learn more or try it out at:

Would love to hear what others are doing with sensor data visualization or feedback on this!

New to Zircon3D?

Here’s a quick video overview of what it can do — from interactive 3D floorplans to live sensor heatmaps, device control, and more:

Thinking of modernizing my place with some smart gear, but I don’t want to blow cash on flashy stuff that’s useless. What gadgets have truly impacted your day-to-day? I’m after useful, time-saving tools—extra points if they sync well with Google Assistant or Alexa.

Posting this here because I wasn't allowed to comment as the post is 3 years old.

u/Prolixia, your post re turning off Hue Hub has saved me HOURS of trouble.

Recently decided to get rid of some old Hue Kit and migrate all my newer bulbs to my ZigBee network and get rid of the hub. However, while I'd unpaired all the devices, I'd left the hub on. Was giving me loads of problems until I popped to IKEA today to buy some Tradfri bulbs. I happened upon your post trying to pair them and BOOM. Hub gets switched off and all my problems go away

thank you thank you thank you!

Yesterday I started telling my wife about ZigBee and why we need it, she understood Sick Bee and got sad. I corrected my pronunciation and we had a good laugh. Never thought of the similarity before.

She doesn't like tech, but appreciates the easiness of turning lights on/off or setting timers and alarms with the voice that we have set up so far.

What are other automations or integration ideas that your partner enjoys?

I'm curious and thought it would be fun to see everyone's audio setups.

So, what setup do you use for (multi-room) audio?

  • What speakers do you use? (Sonos, "dumb" speakers with a wifi chip, a mix of different brands, ...)
  • What music server/solution do you use? (Directly via bluetooth, Music Assistant, Mopidy, ...)
  • What is your preferred way of listening to music? (Spotify, YouTube, ...)
  • If you use local music files: what format and how did you acquire/manage them?
  • Do you also use the speakers for audio output from other devices (pc, phone, tv, record player, ...)?
  • How is the latency/syncing?
  • How do you control it? (A remote/web interface, buttons on the speakers, ...)
  • How much did it cost you?
  • Was it hard to setup?
  • For how long have you had your current setup?
  • Are you happy with your setup/what would you improve or do differently?
  • Would you recommend your setup?
  • Are there any technologies/speakers/... you will never use again or can't miss anymore?
  • ...

Feel free to only answer the questions you want or share even more, like diagrams, specs, etc.
