Hi so I am currently in China but I do need the school VPN (cisco any connect) to access school network. However when I connect through cisco I believe other websites like google which I absolutely need for working is still blocked. It is not a problem when I use the school VPN in the states. Is there a way to set up mullvad and cisco at the same time? I tried to split tunneling to two different brosers. it is not working. Seems like cisco is overriding

Title. The functions of 'On' or 'Off' are of course obvious, but I have searched for this topic and found nothing that explains what the "Automatic" setting does and upon what conditions it is activated or deactivated. Can anyone enlighten me?

I was reading through Mullvad’s website and they talk at several points about the value they place on user anonymity, namely being able to sign up for the VPN without providing any personal information and accepting cash as payment. The one thought that came to mind though is whether or not the act of navigating to their website and generating an account number breaks anonymity. If you go to their website to generate an account number won’t your IP necessarily be exposed and logged? That is there will be a record of your IP address navigating to the Mullvad website and generating the account number X at Y time.

Basically is the title. My os is Linux. VPN is connected and works fine with Mullvad browser and Tor but when I try to use Firefox for example, I just receive the message (we’re having trouble finding that site).

Multihop is off, daita is off. Kill switch is on and lockdown mode is off

Protocol is wireguard ( I try automatic ports and 51820, ipv4 and 6 don’t work). I try others servers but no success. Firefox only works if I close vpn and disconnect.

I was reading the documentation on the WireGuard-based multihop, and it doesn’t seem to provide the stated privacy/security.  As I understand it: one sends data to the "IN" server, and it appears onto the internet via the "OUT" server. Simple enough concept that helps make it much harder to track back traffic to its originating source.

What got me is "how" this is implemented. To specify the desired routing, one sends traffic to the IP of the IN server, but uses a custom port. A port that's uniquely assigned to each OUT server. For example, if I sent ANY Mullvad server traffic on port 3155, it will ALWAYS multihop OUT via Albania. Port 3099 will go OUT in Australia, etc.

Additionally, traffic is also only encrypted to the OUT server. This is done by specifying the public key of the OUT server in the peer configuration.

I see this design as fundamentally NOT providing the desired privacy/security that's advertised. As the destination UDP port is not encrypted; a passive adversary would see the configured destination port of a Mullvad VPN session. The adversary would then know which OUT server the user was connected to, and could then attempt to correlate traffic. No need to monitor the IN server's traffic to determine the next hop.

In a typical multihop system, the next-hop routing details are encrypted. Ensuring that a passive (or even active) adversary cannot easily determine what the next hop is.  Instead, the adversary would need to be in a privileged position, monitoring traffic coming and going form the IN server, to correlate the next hop.   Next, they’d once again need to be in a privileged position on the OUT server, to continue the correlation. By putting the next-hop in cleartext, it greatly reduces the work required by a potential adversary.

Am I missing something?

So Mullvad seem to have just 1 ipv4 and 1 ipv6 address right? Is that an issue? What would you put in the second option on your router for example?🤔 Or do they have two and I’m blind?

Will clarify that I am aware that it is overkill for a regular home network but security nuts will get it

Was wondering if it was possible to filter your traffic through a raspberry pi (like a Zero 2 W?) thorough Mulivad/wireguard VPN and pi-hole simultaneously.

Would be looking for the minimum capable hardware to preform both tasks, or the minimum for separate devices. For the purpose of applying a VPN to my entire network and to have very strong filtering capability. And the obvious reasons one would want a pi-hole.

I know very little about raspberry pi and would be interested in the absolute minimal version able to accomplish either of these projects. I have essentially zero place to start other than knowing what a raspberry pi IS and being somewhat familiar with linux. And help and advice is appreciated.

The latest Mullvad app for Windows enables Quantum Resistance by default when set to Automatic.

I notice that it takes 3-5 seconds longer to connect / switch servers, where disabling this feature makes it connects instantly.

So I'm wondering if most users leave it enable by default or disable it?

I have this issue when connected to Mullvad and I close my laptop. It inevitably crashes and reboots. Event Viewer reports a Event 41, Kernel-Power error and the last time I really dug into it, it had something to do with the network. This laptop has the Intel AX211 wifi and I've kept the driver up to date. The crash happens across versions of the driver.

I generally use WireGuard when connecting to the VPN and I have not tested to see if it's specific to that protocol. I will update this post if it happens when using ovpn.

Anyone else have this? Or know of a fix? TIA

Anyone else experiencing really slow speeds using Mullvad on your phone? I have no speed problems on my Mac or Windows computer. But on my iPhone I can barely load anything when Mullvad is enabled.

I recently got a new iPhone 16 for Christmas. And now mullvan will not connect at all. Nothing works. I deleted the app and redownload and a few other things and I don’t know what to do.

I have tested various Mullvad server regions and have noticed that one region's wireguard Mullvad servers are frequently blocked. What is a good workaround for this (besides using a different region)?

A separate DNS server (Pi-Hole) entered in the Mullvad app (Linux) does not work. Public DNS servers do work.

However, I had successfully used this setting in exactly this form before reinstalling my PI-Hole, what am I doing wrong?

“Share on local network” is activated, I have not changed anything in the Mullvad settings, and the IP address of the Pi-Hole is also correct. Any hints?

Hello!

I used TailScale before to access my devices remotely, but after getting Mullvad, it stopped working. After browsing this sub, I found out they don't play well together. Some people recommended using ZeroTier for that purpose instead, but I found out it didn't work for me even after enabling split tunneling and adding ZeroTier there.

any recommendations?

thanks in advance!!! :) and happy new year!

Hi all. Has anyone else noticed issues accessing iOS or Mac OSX google search in safari and chrome app browser when connecting to Mullvad UK servers?

First it was the recent YouTube bot sign in issue ( I never had a problem till last month on Mullvad UK owned servers). Now it’s google search and it won’t even load youtube.com. I get a server cannot be found error message (for both google searches and to load YouTube homepage).

I’ve tried German Mullvad owned servers and Mullvad rented Atlanta USA servers and I have no issues with access to both google search and YouTube.com (however the playing of YouTube videos are still blocked with the bot message on the German servers). I’ve not tried others servers

Tried to fund account and card declined, tried again declined again. Tried different card, declined, tried again “too many attempts”. No flags and on my accounts, no fraud warnings and now I see the two original attempts both charged to the first card I tried. WTF.

I'm living in Sweden and have been using Mullvad for years. Recently, my connection has been poor. I have a 300 Mbps upload and download speed, but it drops to 20/30 Mbps when Mullvad is on. Switching servers hasn't helped. I'm using Wireguard with automatic settings. Why?

I've seen many others complaining likewise.
