Hey everyone,

I'm encountering an issue with Mullvad’s Local Network Sharing feature and hoping someone here might have a solution or workaround.

The problem: I can access devices on the same subnet as my device (e.g., 192.168.1.X) just fine. However, I’m unable to reach devices on other VLANs/subnets (e.g., 192.168.12.X), even though Mullvad’s description suggests that the Local Network Sharing feature should allow this.

When I disable Mullvad, everything works as expected, and I can reach devices across subnets without any issues.

Has anyone else faced this issue? Is there an immediate solution or any workaround I could implement to make this work as intended?

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Currently I have

VPN settings

  1. DNS blockers all turned on (ads, trackers etc) I turned these on manually is it ok ? Makes sense to I think ?
  2. WireGuard port automatic?
  3. WireGuard obfuscation automatic ?
  4. Udp-over-tcp port automatic?
  5. Quantum-resistant tunnel automatic?
  6. WireGuard mtu default ?

API access

  1. Direct on?
  2. Mullvad bridges on?

Thanks

I am skeptical as to why Mullvad offers a free public DNS service. Usually companies do this for marketing research. But Mullvad is supposed to be a company that champions human privacy. So why would they offer free public DNS services?

Hi!

New Mullvad user here,

I was wondering if speeds I am getting are normal, my "daily" bandwith without VPN is around 1Gbps, while connecting to Mullvad server in my country via OpenVPN I get 20% of my ISP speed, changing the server anythwer in the world it stays around that mark of 20%. I did some research and tried variour configurations in the OVPN config file itself but nothing seems to work, I found a thread on an old forum which suggests that the router (I have the ISP included router and financially saving for a new one) might be too weak too handle the VPN, might it be the case?

Using Mullvad on my PC, not the router.

I wanted to get a vpn mainly for video streaming but also for gaming, i've heard that mullvad isn't the best for netflix and other stuff, should I just choose nordvpn?

Does Mullvad have any plans on making an actual app for Mac that launches from the dock?

I am trying to get people to sign up, but they want an actual app and think the way it sits only in the top is weird.

For example, my girlfriend refuses to use it because it only pops up and instead uses Proton because she likes how the app sits on her Macbook Air screen.

I know others who hate the design too, and use Nord instead.

How hard would it be to make an actual mac app that sits in the dock?

There are a lot of people out there who think form is as important as function, which is often why they buy Apple products.

The way this is set up seems lazy and not designed for mainstream use.

In Mac's activity monitor under network tab, both vpn and torrent client receives data transmission. Just wanna make sure I am not leaking. Thanks

Even if you have encrypted your traffic with a VPN, advanced traffic analysis is a growing threat against your privacy. Therefore, we have developed DAITA – a feature that’s now supported on iOS.

Our VPN app on all desktop platforms already supports DAITA. We have now extended this support to iOS with the release of version 2024.7.

How to Enable

  1. Open the app on your iOS device.
  2. Navigate to Settings → VPN settings → DAITA.
  3. Ensure the setting is switched to On.
  4. If DAITA isn’t available on your current location you need go to the Switch location view and select a location that supports DAITA.

Once the VPN connection is established, you’ll notice “using DAITA” next to the server name on the main view of the app, confirming your connection.

For now, DAITA is only available on select servers in Amsterdam, London, Los Angeles and New York, but you can use Multihop to enter through a DAITA-supported server and exit through any location you want.

I first started using MullVAD on August 19th, 2024, just for fun to test it out and see how it worked. I really liked it tbh, love the complete anonymity of how things work. After signing up and installing it, I've been using it like 80% of the time. I'm a blogger and like to test things and tell people about them, which was the purpose here.

August 29th I first received the "We suspect automated behavior on your account" message on Facebook.

I use some AI tools (Albato, Zapier, IFTTT, boost.space, etc) for testing and fun stuff as well. Once getting thatr message though, I removed all of them from Meta/FB. Everything deleted and permissions removed. Don't want to break the rules - I actually use FB quite a lot, and not even for conspiracy theories or memes :Þ

Tonight though, September 23, 2024, I got the message again.

Nothing of significance has changed, other than MullVAD. The only thing that's happened between then and now is I picked up the new Google Pixel 9 Pro XL phone. Logically it seems like the VPN is what's wrong :/ I would not be surprised in the slightest to learn that someone had been using a VPN to harvest data (or whatever they were doing) and breaking terms of service while doing it, especially without KYC.

I've removed MullVAD and won't be using it anymore. I've also removed the FB app from the new phone, just in case.

Making this post just in case someone were to search for these terms while having similar issues. Maybe it's not the VPN. I do think it is, though. Guess I'll find out one way or another haha

Hi

Before I start, I know that Minecraft Java edition has been marked as unsupported, however the issue could be something else.

So my friend started hosting a Minecraft server for our group to play on. He uses Radmin to allow us to connect. I am however unable to connect to the server without disabling my VPN completely. I've tried split tunneling CurseForge, Radmin and all the processes that Minecraft has running, but no matter what I do, it still keeps giving me the following:

"Failed to log in: The authentication servers are currently not reachable, Please try again."

And on his side, the following:

"com.mojang.authlib.GameProfile@2c815565[id=,name=MinecraftUsername,properties={},legacy=false] (/My_Radmin_VPN_Address) lost connection: Disconnected"

This seems to only happen to this server specifically. If I try to connect to any other public server, there are no issues

Did something happen? Hong Kong 302 used to be the best thing. Do settings need to be tweaked now? What happened? How are you setting this up to be reliable now in China?

Hi all. I have this weird problem where some apps (like Insta) do not load at all when the VPN is on and using mobile data, but when I connect to wifi it works just fine. Anyone encountered this before? iPhone, iOS 18.

Repost from a couple days ago with some additional info.

I got a new M3 Macbook and added it as a device and all browsers work for about 5 minutes after installing the Mullvad app and connecting to a server and then every page stops loading. I've tried a bunch of servers, enabled IPv6 and tried WireGuard and OpenVPN settings, uninstalled and reinstalled the app and Firefox multiple times, and tried using a Mullvad config in the WireGuard app, and nothing is working. New: I’ve tried servers in a lot of different countries and they’re also not working. Also, I have lockdown mode disabled but when I disconnect or disconnect and quit Mullvad, my browser still doesn’t connect until I uninstall Mullvad and restart my computer. But when I downloaded torrents while my browser was able to connect, they were still downloading in qbittorrent after the browser stopped working.

Because mullvad.net won’t load on my phone while on my wifi I am wondering if my ISP is blocking Mullvad but l've never had an issue before. I would love help, I don't know much about this at all and I'm just going off of other threads in this sub but all of them have had fixes that don't work for me. Thanks.

  1. The Android app takes almost 10 seconds to connect to a server. It was instantaneous before the update. WIFI, data networks, they all take almost 10 seconds to connect.

  2. The Mullvad site says I'm connected, but the three leak checks don't work. The 'Checking VPN' just sits there.

Does anyone else see these issues?

Hello,

for some reason, on the same wifi network, my router has a lot of trouble connecting to any server, while using an app just works flawlessly. Is it something I can do on the wireguard file that would make it work better ?

My network is like this : Router (internet) => Router (VPN) => Devices.

When connecting on the VPN router (without VPN activated), I can use the app on any device and it connects without any problem. But connecting the VPN on the router (with wireguard config files) is really hard.

If it can help, I'm in China.

Thank you for any answer.

I wanted to ask a question about Mullvad browser on Linux: the toolbar fonts are too small, is there a way to double their size? Thanks. [Sorry, this is not about the VPN, but I couldn't find anywhere else to ask]

Hope someone can help me here - I'm currently testing out Mullvad for a month as I hear mostly positive reviews from all people. I paid for a month and installed the android app without issues and was able to connect (app says so) - however I am unable to connect to any site. I tried to restart the app, my phone, changed server locations, to no avail.

In the meantime I also have ExpressVPN and have no issues whatsoever in using it. Can someone guide me on what I'm doing wrong here? I'm currently in Saudi Arabia if that matters.

Edited spelling mistakes - I'm on mobile

Hello everyone I am running an unraid server and I wanted to set up some arr apps, but I am having issues adding my socks5 proxy to prowlarr but idk how to or what information to add, I hope someone in here can help me with this. I already did this to my qBittorrent: https://web.archive.org/web/20210225015058/https://mullvad.net/en/help/bittorrent/ (note: I am not the best or smartest when it comes to networking and all the things involved with it)

For some reason I can't get Mullvad to work with Avast, even while I had added a firewall rule to it.

The only setting that will work is OpenVPN, but not Wireguard (which is what I preferred).

Anybody else have trouble with this and found a workaround to this problem?

I even suspended Avast (picking the 10 min delay), it worked for the first time, but after that, it doesn't work like that anymore.

Pretty frustrating to say the least.

I've been using mullvad for over a year now, recently most UK servers have given me problems. On startup I get either slow dialup speeds of loading websites, or constant timeouts and I have to keep cycling through glasgow, manchester and london servers until I find one that works normally.

VPN usually connects through wireguard, though openvpn doesn't make much of a difference either. I have a 1gbps FTTP ethernet connection, my ISP does not throttle my connection. Everything loads instantly with mullvad disconnected.

2 new Cyprus servers from provider "HostRoyale" (Rented - 10 Gbps) hosted in Nicosia have been added to the Wireguard list.
