Hi everyone,

I’ve been experiencing connection issues with Mullvad VPN for the past 1-2 years and could use some advice.

I use OpenVPN on UDP because it generally works well for me. However, when I switch to TCP on the same server, the connection either reconnects every 5-10 minutes or fails to connect at all on both ports 80 and 5001. I encounter a similar problem with WireGuard—UDP doesn’t work for me at all. When I switch WireGuard to TCP, it behaves like OpenVPN on TCP, frequently reconnecting or failing to connect.

For context, I live in a country with censorship.

Any suggestions on how to resolve these issues?

If you are proxying to mullvad servers on firefox or mullvad browser (or any other browser) using the mullvad browser extension or using proxy settings in firefox multi-account containers without first using a mullvad proxy host setting in browser settings then your dns will be leaking.

In this example i used italy server on mullvad app and usa proxy on mullvad extension in mullvad browser.

Mullvad browser extension and connection check website shows there is no leak when there is. At least it should flag yellow and give heads up to users "Hey look you might have a dns leak" and then give detail whether correct proxy settings have been applied.

Not everyone is advanced user so most users are going to be under false impression of security especially when mullvad extension and mullvad connection check page implies that everything is perfect.

I am from KSA, a country known for its censorship of multiple websites including VPNs, sometimes the government can block VPNs connection when they have the chance.

Which is concern considering I bought a VPN subscription and the warranty has ended and wondering, what is the next wave of blocked connection that will happen to my VPN provider.

So what are your thoughts and advice on Secondary VPN subscription

Hi everyone,

suddenly the programs on my Mac don't work anymore with Mullvad. Without they do work. Safari works, but Signal, Spotify and settings don't connect anymore. What can be the issue? I've switched between locations many times, I turned off DNS blockers. What can be the reason? Mullvad says it's connected.

Since today (2024-07-18) I'm experiencing issues with Mullvads SOCKS5 and my browser. I'm using Vivaldi with --proxy-server=socks5://10.64.0.1 and no page is loading anymore.

If I run the "Connection check" from Mullvad I get "Failed to check for DNS leaks" and to me it seems that the Proxy DNS is not working?

For testing purposes I enabled SOCKS5 in Firefox and if I disable "Proxy DNS when using SOCKS v5" then I can still surf the web but if I enable it, it stops working as URLs can't be resolved anymore.

Has anyone an idea what is wrong? Is that issue on my side or on Mullvad?

I’m having trouble loading many webpages with Mullvad on. This is happening with my iPhone and not my MacBook.

For example, yesterday I could use the usps page for tracking packages with my VPN on but today I have to disconnect the vpn to upload the same page

So, im trying to upload a .eur file on a specific website (don't know if i can say the specific one since its from a private company) and its not working, doesnt even give a error message, just doesnt work. I can upload pdf's and every other file type i've tried, but not .eur, and it needs to be uploaded in eur.

I know this could be useful for the most, but according to the Apple docs, Differential Privacy takes a big step anonymizing the data sent.

As fair as I could research, most of the analytics generated are safe to send, except:

• Enhanced Beta Feedback (THE BIG NO NO for most, sends contextual data and could include non-anonymized info)
• Improve Handwashing (sends small chunks of data when white-like noise is detected)
• Improve health and activity (sends non-accurate geo-location)
• Safety data (UNCLEAR)
• Improve assistive voice features (sends audio recordings)
• Improve AR location accuracy (states that doesn't link to your account, but is linked to your surroundings and can be inferred)

So for most of the analytics created, "Share iPhone and Watch Analytics" and "Share with app developers" have DP applied and wont expose you directly or by inferred data.

Problem being (and the reason of this post) is that Mullvad seems to block BY DEFAULT on any DNS content block option, any domain request made to securemetrics.apple.com, metrics.apple.com and metrics.icloud.com.

It's important to note that Apple has beta programs which are not mainly to use future features in advance, but more importantly, to report bugs. And those domains are in charge of those reports, that are genuinely useful and user privacy-wise by using DP. So this design doesn't help the beta program at all by blocking entirely the enabled analytics. The only option is to completely disable the tracking blocker, leaving you naked to well known and malicious tracking.

I think there should be at least an small text box to enter some excluded domains/patterns to avoid blocking legitimate requests while still protected from the rest.

This can be tested by using dig command as following:

dig @100.64.0.1 securemetrics.apple.com
dig @100.64.0.7 securemetrics.apple.com

When trying to install the Mullvad Browser on Debian Bookworm after adding the repository to apt list I get "Unable to locate package mullvad-browser". Manually checking the stable repository at https[://]repository.mullvad[.]net/deb/stable/pool/main/m/ and the beta one at https[://]repository.mullvad[.]net/deb/beta/pool/main/m/ they both don't have the package "mullvad-browser". It seems the deb package is missing from the repo. The rpm package is there though https[://]repository.mullvad[.]net/rpm/stable/x86_64/ .

About 2 weeks ago, something changed and now when I load the McDonald’s app to Get a “mobile” order/reward, the site just times out. Any one else see this, know what might I Play with to secure this traffic?

when running sudo apt-get update on my debian machine I do get an error that states mullvad vpn repo is not signed anymore and therefore updates can't be run.

Anyone else or is there a problem on my configuration?

My router has option to use openVPN if I give it a config file. However, I use Mullvad and in their instructions it seems as though I would need to download DDWRT onto my router to use my Mullvad VPN.

My issue: my router isn’t on the supported DDWRT router list.

Is there a way around this?

I was trying to login to Reddit on a Mac desktop (Safari and Chrome). It would accept the password and then ask for the 2FA code which was in 1Password. When I entered it nothing would happen. Tried a few tricks, including switching browsers, switching to backup codes, same result. Once I disconnected Mullvad, the 2FA code worked and I logged in. I could reconnect Mullvad and continue reading. In case anyone else was having this problem.
