Late last year Anthropic released a standard called Model Context Protocol (MCP), which helps AI agents/LLMs to use tools in a standardized fashion. This allows them to access all sorts of functionality - from file system access, databases, web browser control and basically anything you can imagine.

I built an MCP server that allows interaction with the Nano network. AI agents/LLMs using this server can:

  • Send nano from a predefined address
  • Query the network for account/block information

Code and setup instructions here:

View a demonstration of Claude Desktop using this MCP server

Nano is perfect for value transfer between AI agents as it doesn't require fee calculation and has very low latency due to its near-instant confirmation times.

Note: if you are testing this please use small amounts of Nano as this software should be treated as experimental.

After several weeks in beta, I thought I'd now officially introduce Subnano.me, a micro-transaction content platform powered exclusively by Nano.

What is Subnano?

Subnano allows anyone to publish premium content that users can unlock by making Nano micro-payments. Think Substack, but instead of subscriptions, each article or post is individually accessible through Nano payments.

Key Features:

  • No registration needed: Users can instantly unlock content without creating an account. Simply scan, pay, and access.
  • Instant payments: Content unlocks immediately after payment, typically within a second.
  • Ephemeral address system: Every purchase or login generates a unique, single-use Nano address. This system enhances security, reduces risk of targeted attacks, and simplifies transaction tracking. Using the same address for multiple purchases immediately grants access to all content previously unlocked by that address, simplifying repeated access.
  • Nano login: Users have the option to log in quickly and securely by making a small Nano payment that gets refunded immediately.
  • User-friendly design: I'm a frontend developer by trade, so I've been having a lot of fun polishing the UI and UX for Subnano.
  • Secure and reliable: Includes real-time transaction monitoring, logins with Nano, and comprehensive authentication controls.

How to get involved:

Subnano is now fully live, and I'm actively looking for more writers and content creators interested in experimenting with Nano micro-payments. If you're interested in tech, crypto, or writing in general, consider giving Subnano a try.

Visit here to check it out: subnano.me

I'd appreciate any feedback and suggestions. Looking forward to seeing your posts on Subnano.

Time for an update again! We now also keep an update log for most updates (not everything) on NanoGPT, if you click the little "bell" next to the X/Twitter icon you can scroll through them.

That said, here are some big ones.

  • We added video models, like Veo 2, Kling 1.5 Pro, Minimax, and Hunyuan video.
  • All models can now take images. For those that don't natively support it we essentially work around the problem for you by using an image-understanding model to give a very detailed description to the mAll models can now take imagesodel that you are actually querying.
  • We added a "Try Nano" to the balance page. Sponsored by XNOPay this allows everyone to try out Nano by getting 0.1 Nano sent to them.
  • You can now set your representative in the balance page by clicking settings next to your Nano balance. Mostly relevant for Nano folks hah, but we figure the more balance we build up the more important it becomes. This also means you can set us as your payout address directly on services like CryptoVision.
  • We now have a Chrome Extension! Query NanoGPT from any website by hitting ALT + S (Windows) or CMD + S (Mac).
  • We added "reasoning" to Gemini 2.0, ChatGPT, and GPT 4.5 Preview. Similar to with DeepClaude we Frankensteined two models together: Deepseek R1 + for example Gemini 2.0, so that first Deepseek R1 reasons, then passes on your prompt + its reasoning to Gemini 2.0/ChatGPT etc. This improves their output quality quite a bit.
  • A bunch of new models: Deepseek V3 upgraded, Hunyuan T1, QwQ 32b, Gemma models, Jamba models, Mistral small, Olympiccoder, ASI1 Mini, some Drummer models, GPT 4o web search models, and Flux Lightning for images.
  • We now have an actual API Documentation page. Comes with examples of how to use our endpoints, and you can even use our API directly from the documentation to try out how the calls work.
  • For those using credit cards we've added auto recharge so that you never run out of funds if you don't want to. It's fully opt-in, not enabled by default obviously.
  • Last but definitely not least: we now have a landing page designed and created by Brazy (of Armour Hosting). Paid for in Nano, of course.

On another note we were at our first conference (or rather I, Milan was) representing NanoGPT and I met a user in the wild, so that was exciting.

We'll try and release the payment statistics for March as soon as possible after the month has ended as well - I haven't looked at them yet but we hope they keep being a good argument for "add Nano payments" to other merchants!

Hey fellows behind nanogpt... Is there a limit on how much i can process with the API? At the moment we have some ad-hoc processes which need to process like 100k - 300k prompts. We do it in batches so we can process faster. However we are looking for alternatives so we can access more variety of models.

We don't want to host our own models as we don't process 24/7.

Lately I've been researching different currency coins because I no longer see BTC as a viable candidate to threaten our traditional financial system I came across XNO about a month ago and I really like the benefits it offers. What can we do to help XNO grow?

A few years ago I sold all my nano for about €14. Since then I have occasionally been checking the price but it seems that Nano is still kind of struggling to get off the ground. I've been thinking about stepping in again with a few k's, and to just ignore the walley for a few years.

I'm just wondering why Nano is still struggling compared to other cryptocurrencies that seem less efficient. What could Nano's place be in the future? And why?

I want to invest again because I like the idea but to me it kind of seems like people won't be eager to use it for some reason.

hey! another day another subnano article : )

i am leaving this one paywalled however because i kinda wanna gauge what the demand is for subnano articles currently? i guess i also need some extra money 'cause i am a college student obsessed with crypto (bad combo lmao)

edit: after some thinking, im also going to add the free version to my articles. i believe there can be a solution with some kind of subnano tag/flair on the subreddit but thats asking for too much lol. actually good formatting and images are still exclusive to the subnano article though. anyways!

"I recently found another cryptocurrency that seems to be excelling at what β€” in theory β€” Nano is best suited for. As another crypto races towards adoption, should we be taking notes?"

Nano is a currency that's best at two things β€” being feeless, and being instant. I discussed in my last article how just being those two things alone is actually not enough for wide adoption; and that adoption is dependent on ease of use coupled with a wide ecosystem of services that leverage its global nature.

Understanding this concept is what will be the foundation for future Nano adoption and projects going forward. Rather than hoping for Nano to be picked up by some venture capital firm or wishing for Brian Armstrong to finally change his mind on Nano; we should instead build organic growth on Nano that focus on its global accessibility.

Basically β€” if it is not accessible, people will not use it.

These foundations have served Nano well for its adoption campaigns in countries such as Nigeria, where its feeless nature is enticing for merchants and users who want a global alternative to their local currency β€” and also other, more expensive-to-use cryptocurrencies.

But we aren't the only community trying to minimize fees and transaction time.

(In fact, I think every cryptocurrency is trying to do that nowadays...)

While trying to brainstorm a roadmap for general Nano adoption going forward; another cryptocurrency caught my eye. Celo.

Thou blasphemer! What is this "Celo" thy speak of?!

WAIT! I'm talking about Celo because I want us to take lessons from their successful adoption gameplan. By analyzing what they're doing β€” and how they're winning the crypto adoption race β€” we can push Nano adoption further.

Celo is an interesting cryptocurrency; advertising its focus on mobile-friendly clients and being easy-to-use, it quickly became adopted by 5 million users across "the Global South". Despite it still being relatively unknown, their drive for adoption happened quickly and decisively.

This rapid adoption was definitely helped by big players using the blockchain early-on (such as Opera with its Minipay wallet), but despite that; it was also helped by Celo's vision.

  • An accessible platform. Celo integrated phone numbers to be easily understood by the masses, while also providing an easy platform to build on for developers. Not only this, they have significant use of stablecoins; which are more trusted in the eyes of an end-user.
  • Fast and cheap transactions. Transactions in Celo only take 1 second to reach finality and gas fees costs a fraction-of-a-fraction-of a cent.
  • Ease of use. Celo users don't need to use a native token to pay for gas fees; enabling easy and practical usage of its applications. Integrated phone numbers also make it so users are able to make use of an already international standard to send and receive cryptocurrency easily.

Hearing all of this, you might be inclined to say;

Hey wait, can't Nano do all of this, but better?

And you wouldn't be wrong! We can do all of this better! In a faster, cheaper, and more decentralized manner. There are some challenges we need to face, however.

  • We need to deal with stablecoins. Sadly, since Nano doesn't have tokenization (probably ever); we need to prove that using Nano is better than using stablecoins. "Nano is non-inflationary" is not enough, since believe it or not β€” normal people still have trust in their traditional financial institutions. We need to have an actual incentive for someone to hold a stake in Nano and use it. A good example of this in action is Nano-GPT's discount for Nano deposits. Speaking of Nano-GPT, they're currently giving away 0.1 XNO for every new user! (which by the way is fully withdrawable, so you can literally just get 10 cents for free!)
  • We need new projects with new features. The Nano community was β€” to be frank β€” kinda like a ghost town back during the 2021-2024 bear market. This caused Nano projects to be abandoned over time. This happened to Natrium; Nano's largest wallet, which is still stuck in v26.1 despite holding 8.5% of all Nano in existence. A lot of other services have also been abandoned/are outdated; including nanolinks.info (turned into a gambling site?) and even the official hub for Nano services. Before we move forward with adoption, we need to clean up these old projects and develop new ones in order to bring a fresh new feel to Nano, to reflect its continued development that will culminate when Nano finally reaches commercial-grade.
  • We need applications that prioritize accessibility and ease of use. Despite being relatively easier to use compared to other cryptocurrencies, Nano is still a cryptocurrency. We need to remove the barrier to adoption by integrating systems that people already use. In the case of Celo, they removed that barrier by marketing themselves as a sorta 'global e-wallet' and integrating phone numbers. In that way, people feel comfortable using Celo since its an extension of what they already use. Nano can do this too. We can develop wallets that are mobile-friendly; and by designing our applications to be accessible and recognizable; Nano services can serve as direct competitors to other services (Nano-GPT vs. ChatGPT, NanShop vs. CoinGate, etc). Through these easy-to-use applications, adoption will grow and evolve organically. (In fact, I'm working on a wallet right now ;) So keep on the lookout for that!)
  • Offramps and Onramps. Look, they're not exactly... Ideal, currently. Getting Nano is very hard in some regions, such as in New York State where invasive crypto regulations get in the way of adoption (I've unfortunately had to deal with this...). But I think this can also be solved. To bring up another cryptocurrency β€” Monero didn't get in the top 30 by being listed in exchanges, so we need to learn from them too. Online marketplaces like moneromarket and decentralized exchanges like RetoSwap serve as ways to earn, spend, trade, and exchange for Monero. Nano's volume will grow naturally as our community continues to develop these kinds of services.

So... what is this article about again?

I mean β€” I basically just laid out the game plan for Nano adoption going forward! A focus on accessibility, ease-of-use, community-based services, and global reach will only serve us well into the next few years. And by following these principles, I predict that Nano will also experience growth as exponential as Celo did.

For now, keep developing those services β€” and of course, keep stacking Nano πŸ₯¦β€οΈ.

Hi, I have been researching different crypto currencies and Nano looks very promising to me. I decided to test it out with nanodrop.io. When I scan my receiving address QR code I get an invalid address error message. When I copy and paste the address, it works. Any ideas on what the problem is?

This is not about promoting my article (which is a test post and not super interesting), but for you to test another cool use case for our instant and feeless currency.

Scan the QR, pay the 0.05 XNO and access the content! (can't be any easier):

Ps. If you're a content creator and want to start an exclusive journal/newsletter, just create an account (it's super easy = sending a small amount to a QR) and start monetizing your knowledge/public!

I'm super bullish about the quality of the builders and buildings we have in the community.

The future of Nano is bright my friends!

Nano is one of the best cryptocurrencies I have found yet, as it doesn't require you to pay fees for transactions. This is great, as it was the only problem getting me into the crypto community. I was left, forced to mine with UnMineable. Can somebody please tell me about a legal method to purchase small quantities of NANO?

Any btc or alt pools that payout in Nano? I'm looking to invest in some mining equipment because I have spare energy that I need to offload (sending it back to the net actually costs money here), so I figured let's mine some nano with it.

There used to be nanopool.org, but that one seems down. Any others still working?

Hello guys,

After almost 2 years I have reappeared in the community with yet another faucet. NANOFaucet, is an open-source (frontend / backend) NANO faucet, perhaps the first this advanced(?). It's only a faucet after all but it has a referral system. (Link gets generated after you use it yourself for the first time)

It is pretty much just a redesign and rewrite of what was formerly known as "getnano.ovh" which wasn't working at all for the past ~8 months (since NANO removal from Exodus, I was using their node).

URL:

Feel free to contribute :)

PSA: Frontend was mainly done with DeepSeek AI. If you wish to contribute - please do not waste your time to contribute to frontend (unless it's small changes), I don't want you working on something I barely worked on!
