Disks capable of storing years worth of transactions already cost less than some recent AAA games. Long term both bandwidth and storage are going to be non-issues"

Most of us know by now that Nano has implemented a bucketing and queuing system to combat spam effectively and ensure fair resource allocation for transactions. In short, this system organizes transactions into separate buckets. If one bucket experiences spam, transactions in other buckets remain unaffected and proceed without delays.

For more details, you can explore the Nano documentation.

In total there's 64 buckets, covering the range from meager amounts of Nano to millions. Since these numbers were in Raw, Nano's smallest unit, 1 Nano = 1 Raw * 1e30 (a 1 followed by 30 zeros), it's pretty hard to grasp the bucket categories. So I converted them into what they'd be worth in USD as of today, where 1 Nano = 1.44 USD approximately.

Seeing the categories like this, it's easy to see that the buckets are quite granular in the 0-100 USD range, covering almost half of the total range. This is great for daily-use transactions, as anyone who would think about spamming Nano would probably not want to have a huge amount of it, so sub 100 USD transactions are more "protected". Also I wonder how easy it could be to adapt the bucketing categories in the future, to accommodate for potential price changes.

First, please excuse any english errors, not my mother tongue.

So, i know the project since Raiblocks and i though it would eventually take off because as i understand, it has all the characteristics of a perfect crypto. I mean, that is what a remember reading at the time. I don't have any tecnical knowledge to actually judge the project based on it's merits. So, in a last personal (low) effort to understand Nano, i asked chatgpt:

Based on libertarian, austrian economics and the characteristics of bitcoin, does nano have all the characteristics to be the perfect crypto currency?

ChatGPT

Evaluating whether Nano has all the characteristics to be the "perfect" cryptocurrency from the perspective of libertarian and Austrian economics principles, as well as comparing it to Bitcoin, involves examining several key factors. Here's an analysis based on those principles:

  1. Decentralization ===================

Libertarian/Austrian Perspective: Strongly favors decentralization to avoid government control and intervention.

  • Bitcoin: Highly decentralized with a robust network of miners and nodes. However, there is concern about mining centralization due to the concentration of mining power in specific regions.
  • Nano: Also decentralized, but instead of miners, it uses a delegated proof-of-stake (DPoS) system where representatives are voted to validate transactions. This can be seen as less decentralized than Bitcoin since a smaller group of representatives has significant influence.
  1. Scarcity ===========

Libertarian/Austrian Perspective: The currency must have a limited supply to prevent inflation and preserve value.

  • Bitcoin: Fixed supply of 21 million coins, ensuring scarcity.
  • Nano: Fixed supply of 133,248,297 NANO, providing a level of scarcity similar to Bitcoin.
  1. Transaction Speed and Costs ==============================

Libertarian/Austrian Perspective: Efficient and low-cost transactions are crucial for practical use and adoption.

  • Bitcoin: Transaction speeds can be slow, and fees can be high during peak times due to its block size and mining process.
  • Nano: Designed for fast, feeless transactions due to its block-lattice architecture, which allows each account to have its blockchain. This makes Nano highly efficient for everyday transactions.
  1. Security ===========

Libertarian/Austrian Perspective: Security is essential to protect users' assets and ensure the integrity of the currency.

  • Bitcoin: Proven to be highly secure due to its extensive network and proof-of-work consensus mechanism, which makes it difficult to attack.
  • Nano: Security is maintained through its consensus algorithm and the use of representative nodes. While it hasn't faced the same level of attacks as Bitcoin, its security model is considered robust.
  1. Energy Efficiency ====================

Libertarian/Austrian Perspective: Preferably, the currency should be environmentally sustainable and energy-efficient.

  • Bitcoin: Criticized for its high energy consumption due to the proof-of-work mechanism.
  • Nano: Highly energy-efficient since it doesn't rely on mining. Its block-lattice structure and consensus mechanism require significantly less computational power.
  1. Adoption and Network Effect ==============================

Libertarian/Austrian Perspective: A widely adopted currency with a strong network effect is more likely to succeed.

  • Bitcoin: The most widely recognized and adopted cryptocurrency, with a strong network effect and broad acceptance.
  • Nano: While it has a dedicated community and growing adoption, it is not as widely known or used as Bitcoin.

Conclusion

From the perspective of libertarian and Austrian economics principles, Nano possesses several characteristics that could make it an ideal cryptocurrency, such as:

  • Decentralization (though not as strong as Bitcoin's in some views).
  • Fixed supply ensuring scarcity.
  • Fast, feeless transactions.
  • High energy efficiency.
  • Robust security.

However, Nano's relatively lower adoption and smaller network compared to Bitcoin could be seen as drawbacks. In terms of being the "perfect" cryptocurrency, it excels in many areas where Bitcoin faces criticism, particularly in transaction efficiency and environmental impact.

The "perfect" cryptocurrency might combine Bitcoin's strong decentralization and adoption with Nano's transaction efficiency and energy sustainability. Each has strengths and weaknesses, and the "perfect" solution may lie in the evolution of these technologies or a new development that integrates the best aspects of both.

Years have passed and i feel like Nano is ignored by everyone in the crypto space. So, why the hell people dismiss Nano?

Sam Altman (CEO of OpenAI) was interviewed recently by Andrew Ross Sorkin at the New York Times Events convention where Sam stated the following:

"A particular passion of mine has always been - can we figure out to do micro payments where (eg.) if you generate a story in the style of Andrew Ross Sorkin (the interviewer) you can opt into that - for your name and likeness and style to be used and get paid for it."

(Skip to 33:18 for the micro payments quote)

As nano is the ultimate micro payment medium this is another potential use case for XNO. Every other AI company must be looking into micro payments as well.

Nano enables what no other coin does, a true democratic consensus protocol. When no fees are involved, every single user of the network is aligned with ensuring the network does exactly what it's supposed to: maintaining a truthful ledger.

This means that all further societal consensus needs can be established on top of this very network, ensuring a rapid settling and publishing of state.

Imagine arbitration service providers, elections, defi etc, all built on top of Nano.

Nano is one the most promising techs in existence. Don't let market valuation trends distract you from this.

Nano has a fixed supply, which is a fundamental characteristic of a good store of value. Unlike Bitcoin, where mining continues to dilute the supply, Nano's supply is fixed, potentially leading to greater value retention over time. Bitcoin is just winning based on popularity, but Nanois actually better. Given the same recognition it would exceed Bitcoin.

Nano's feeless structure means there's no degradation of value through transaction costs, making it arguably a better store of value than any cryptocurrencies with fees. This aspect is often undervalued because the narrative around cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin has heavily leaned towards fees as a security mechanism rather than recognizing the benefits of feeless transactions for value preservation.

Nano transactions are processed almost instantly, which is a significant advantage for everyday use as a currency. The speed and efficiency of Nano for microtransactions or any transaction size are often underestimated, particularly when compared to the slower confirmation times of other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.

The absence of transaction fees makes Nano ideal for small transactions where fees would otherwise be prohibitive, like microtransactions, tipping, or remittances. This utility is not fully recognized due to the focus on cryptocurrencies that charge fees, which are seen as a necessary part of network security or as a revenue model for miners or developers.

There's a common misconception that mining is the only way to secure a cryptocurrency network. Nano's ORV system, where security comes from the voting weight of representatives, is not as widely understood or accepted. As Nano gains prominence over time, Nano's security superiority will become clear.

Nano's dual utility presents a compelling case for having a greater overall value proposition by effectively serving as both a store of value and a medium of exchange in the most efficient and sustainable ways possible. Nano can serve as a hedge against inflation or currency devaluation while also being used for daily transactions.

Text models

  • First and foremost: o1. Amazing model, breaks all the benchmarks, but is hard to access because it's locked behind a subscription. We have it live, and you can even play around with the "reasoning_effort parameter" to determine how long it should think on your query. It's expensive, but not as expensive as o1-preview was and performs far better. It's my current go-to for coding.
  • Second which we're super excited about: Auto Model. Many new users find the sheer number of models overwhelming. If you use Auto Model, any prompt you do gets categorized into 1 of (currently) 18 categories, and we match the best model for that category. Essentially by using the Auto Model you always have the best model for whatever query you do. We also added the model recommender, which is the same as the Auto Model except it outputs a suggestion and you can click a button to use the suggested model.
  • Gemini Flash 2.0 and Gemini Flash 2.0 Thinking are WAY cheaper models that get 90% of the way that o1 does, I'd say. They're lightning fast as well.
  • Grok has been upgraded to the newest version, as has Deepseek Chat and a few more models.
  • Uncensored models have been added as a category. These are truly abliterated uncensored.
  • Some models now come with advanced settings. Reasoning_effort is one, but on others you can also for example set "max_tokens" to output, temperature, all the goodies.

Image models

  • We added Flux with LoRAs! We have a few presets there, one of which is the Nano symbol which generates beautiful images with the Ӿ symbol. I've seen literally hundreds of these and they keep amazing me. Massive shout-out to Frakilk of Nanocharts for getting this LoRA developed. You can also use any LoRA you want in there by just pasting in the link, we figure out how to use it in the backend.
  • Most image models now come with advanced image settings where you can set the exact resolution you want.
  • We added some uncensored image models: Flux Dev uncensored and fluently. To make them visible, visit settings and check "show explicit content".

Video models

  • We added our first video model in a Shorts Generator by Longstories. This allows you to create customizable short-form videos (similar to YouTube Shorts or TikTok) about any topic. There are a lot of customization options and I personally really love the Shorts this generates. One of the customization options uses the same LoRA that we now have for images, so that you can use the Nano symbol in videos. We have an ongoing competition which allows you to temporarily use the Nano symbol model with the Shorts Generator for free, see .

Other integrations

  • Frakilk (of NanoCharts)'s Multiprompt can now be used by anyone and is super cool. See . Plug in your API key and query any number of models simultaneously, so you can compare their answers side by side.
  • Eliza is an AI agent framework that's much used to build AI agents for crypto projects. Thanks to Dylan we're now integrated in there, and Eliza builders can now use any model they can think of and pay directly in crypto.

Huggi and I have been working on this pretty much every waking hour the last few weeks and have some more cool stuff coming up that we're working hard for, so just want to say the messages where someone goes "NanoGPT is cool" or something like it are incredibly awesome to see and keep us going hah. So thanks to those that help or reach out in some way, it's super appreciated. Sorry if we're slightly less responsive the past days, we're trying.

No crypto currency coin is as stable as Bitcoin, but you can't spend Bitcoin to buy a chocolate. If the currency coins are too volatile, then what's the point of using any of them at all? You might as well hold USDT.

If you buy currency coins as a store of wealth, it's going to hurt you really badly.

Where does Nano stand in this?

4-Dimensional Graph Structures

Hi r/nanocurrency Community,

I’ve been a long-time admirer of Colin’s vision and Nano’s incredible design—how its distributed acyclic graph structure redefines what’s possible in finance by eliminating inefficiencies, enabling fairness, and creating something that just works. Nano taught me that simplicity isn’t the absence of complexity; it’s understanding complexity so well that it becomes intuitive.

That ethos inspired my own journey. Using the principles behind Nano, I’ve been working on frameworks that apply similar ideas—like relationships, simplicity, and fairness—to understanding intelligence, systems, and even life itself. I don’t want to sound over-the-top, but Nano’s architecture helped me see how interconnected systems work on both technical and philosophical levels. It’s been the foundation for my work.

Here’s an image (attached) that bridges Nano’s block-lattice to my frameworks—how nodes, edges, and distributed relationships can become the basis for something greater.

I’m not here to shill anything or claim to have all the answers. I just want to share this journey with you all. If you’re interested in exploring this further, I’d love to hear your thoughts or even collaborate.

Much love to this amazing community for everything you’ve built. Nano changed the way I see the world—and that’s just the beginning.

It’s been a while since I bout my first Nano (around 4 years) and I remember at the time being amazed by the near absence of transaction times and fees. Prior to that I was firmly “Bitcoin only” as a felt I fully understood the technology behind that. I also love that Nano felt like a genuinely usable currency rather than some get-rich-quick Ponzi scheme.

I became a little anxious when Nano got “hacked” (I think the network got flooded with spam transactions) and I can’t recall how that issue was fixed.

Can someone explain how Nano actually works, or point me in the right direction for this information? Also are there any technical problems with Nano?

TIA

Bought some several years ago and sent it to a paper wallet and just assumed it would still be there as pending but when I checked it's showing a balance of 0 and 0 pending. Hoping I'm just misunderstanding something here.

Has it just gone inactive and therefore isn't showing any information?

2nd: Ӿ100

3rd: Ӿ50

Get most views on your AI-generated Short, win Nano!

NanoGPT recently added a Shorts Generator for 10-60 seconds shorts, and it can use the Ӿ symbol.

It's temporarily free to generate using this style!

The prizes will be given to the generators of the Shorts with most views across X, TikTok, Youtube, and Instagram over the next two weeks, until noon on New Year's day.

A group of Nano holders generously donated to temporarily make it free to generate these, roughly the first 800 videos.

Note: we're creating a channel where everyone can see these videos, so what you generate is temporarily public (for this model): .

For those that want to donate to keep it free longer:

No pressure though - we're going to get a lot of videos either way!

How to:

Go to "new image" > pick Shorts Generator as model > click adjust image settings (the gear-like icon next to the model name).

In adjust image settings:

Model: Flux Model with Styles

Style: Nano Style

There are a lot of options to play around with for generating these Shorts, so go wild and see what you think will get most views.

Let's spread the word about Nano a bit more! 🥳
