tl;dr - I put a PKGBUILD on the AUR for the Nano Vanity tool.

I have been searching for a tool to generate a vanity address for a while, and all I could find were online generators with pretty poor performance for such a computationally demanding task. Finally, I found a blog post by u/Joohansson from almost five years ago that describes the exact tool I wanted!

I use Arch Linux, and I enjoy throwing together build scripts if I can't find one already available, so I thought I would share the one I wrote for the Nano Vanity tool from the blog post. I tried it out, and it still works today! I was able to use my GTX 3070 to generate an 8-character prefix (which the tool estimated would take 64 BILLION attempts to find), and it found one in under an hour since the GPU can generate almost 20 MILLION addresses per second. For comparison, the online tool I was using barely scratched 20,000 per second.

The link to the AUR package is at the top, and the tool itself can be found here:

Cheers!

EDIT to add: It should go without saying, but for security, run this and similar tools OFFLINE!

Hey guys, recently I worked on xnohub.com, now it is stable and I'm getting bored! I need some new ideas of what to build, any ideas are welcome as long as it is legal LOL, let's go!

The project should be fun, useful, and beneficial for the community 🤔

Update:

Bought two domains already... might get more related ones but, I think I will start to work on the localnanos pretty sooooon

🤔🤔🤔

Link to our previous update.

First off, we've added Bitcoin Cash deposits to our service.

BCH announcement video

Does this mean we're cloning our website into a BCH version? No, Nano is our true love. That said, we want to broaden access to our service as much as possible and we try not to be tribal. Bitcoin Cash has a community that focuses on spending and truly using crypto, we try to support using as many different crypto as possible through swaps, and BCH made the most sense to offer easier access through.

How this works is that users can pay in using BCH, with a minimum of $0.10. When they deposit, we instantly credit their account with Nano, equivalent in USD value to the BCH deposited minus a 1% spread/fee. When we have a high enough BCH balance we swap the BCH to Nano (through Nanswap) so we have more Nano to again send out.

This broadens access to our service, means more people have Nano (it's instantly withdrawable), and adds a constant buying pressure on Nano from our side. We'd love to offer these better/lower minimum deposits for more crypto, but it's quite an effort to integrate so let's see how this first one goes. If you have any friends that use BCH but aren't into Nano yet, shoot them an invite!

Second, we've added API keys

We had quite some requests for API access, for both images and text. It's now possible, in Settings, to generate an API key. This API key can then be used to access our service programmatically.

We haven't yet gotten around to writing up good documentation for it so it takes a bit of technical smarts to use it, but some seem to already be getting good use out of it. If anyone that is using it feels like writing up documentation we'd be very happy, we can't yet really find the time to do so.

Third, we've updated our model options

Llama-3 70b, GPT 3.5 Turbo and Sonar Online 32k have been removed.

Llama-3.1 70b, GPT-4o-mini and Sonar Online 128k have been added.

The Llama update is so that users have access to the newest version of this model (at the same cost), which offers better performance on every aspect.

The update from GPT 3.5 Turbo to GPT-4o-mini means a cheaper and better performing model.

The Sonar Online 32k to 128k means there is a bigger context window (possible to enter more input) and the new model uses Llama-3.1, rather than Llama-3 meaning the performance is better with unchanged cost.

That's all folks. We keep working on adding more and improving our existing offerings, with accounts currently being worked on along with more advanced image generation. That said, we keep saying we're working on X and then later decide Y takes priority, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Slightly off-topic, but we're also very excited about the v27 improvements. Nano is already fantastic, and as a service building on Nano it's great to see it improving more and more. Also once again a big thank you to the community. Every time we see someone commenting something about NanoGPT on Twitter or Reddit, or when someone tells us they invited a friend it makes us happy.

Hey Hey,

It's been a while since my last update on the community fund, so I wanted to share some news.

Rui joined us as a community developer in July and has been actively working on rsnano, the Rust implementation of Nano. The first of six monthly payouts has just been processed!

Rui has made some great progress, especially with the new command line interface (CLI), which has been merged. Next up, he'll be focusing on the RPC commands so that all the important bits are in Rust.

Here is a technical overview of how the Rust CLI implementation enhances user experience:

  • Clear Command Structure: The CLI lists main commands first, followed by their specific options or subcommands. There are four main commands:
    • ledger
    • node
    • utils
    • wallets
  • Concise Descriptions: Descriptions are shorter, making them easier to read.
  • Comprehensive Help Options: All commands and subcommands have a --help option that explains their function and available subcommands or options.
  • Example Usage: ./rsnano_node ledger info peers --network beta displays the peers of the node on the beta network, where:
    • ./rsnano_node is the CLI executable
    • ledger is the command
    • info is the subcommand of ledger
    • peers is the subcommand of info
    • --network is a flag/option
    • beta is the argument for --network

Hey guys, I started this project last year but didn't make much progress since I'm not familiar with 3D models and Three.js. I tried with ChatGPT-4, but it didn't help much, and I was stuck on things like simulating the real sun angle based on time and day/night rotation.

Recently, I used Claude 3.5, and it is insane! I picked up my project XNOHub.com again and made huge progress. I enjoyed it so much and hope you like it 😄🚀.

Also, let me know if you have any UX/UI, design, or any suggestions, thank you!

Also Also I'm thinking of a new Nano project but need more ideas... 🤔🤔

I invested in Raiblocks back in 2017. Since version 7. Time flies and I can’t believe it has been that long. I’ve never sold my stack, continue to accumulate and use Nano to transact…quite a bit recently with nano-gpt.

I don’t know why, but I just can’t stop accumulating my stack. Seems to be the ideal crypto that satoshi envisioned.

Am I a degen for continuing to buy? I think it is just a matter of time, but have thought that many times over the years and am a bit shocked that it’s been 7 years and here we are at under $1.

The recent spam mitigation improvements are so exciting. This could truly be an internet currency or protocol.

How about everyone else here? How long have you been here? What are your thoughts about adoption and the overall future of Nano?

I get that some people just want to escape the big-company monopoly and use peer-to-peer technologies when possible, but the truth is that most people dont mind that as long as the product is practical.

I'm from Norway where we have an app like Venmo called Vipps. It's feeless and instant, uses an official bank-issued ID to log in so you can prove the ownership of your account with identification if you somehow lose access, and a lot of businesses have integrated it so you can pay pretty much anything with it.

So what benefit does nano really provide?

I'm no economist and know very little about the details in crypto, but I'm against the idea of buying and selling crypto as means to "quickly 10x your money" and viewing it as an asset. I want to see crypto being used practically for transactions in day-to-day life.

The Nano project seems to share that vision of crypto, so I would like to test out using nano to spread its adoption and see its use in a practical integration in day to day life. However, I'm afraid of the price fluctuations and how they might affect the practical usability of nano - I don't want the price for nano to drop and then suddenly not be able to pay for practical things.

Say for example a friend of mine buys a laptop worth $500 and then resells it to me for 61 nano, then the price of nano in usd halves. My "buying power" with nano would be only $250.

If I want to adopt this with friends, should I therefore agree on a fixed exchange rate/evaluation within our group? E.g. 1 nano = 1 usd, or is that just dumb (if so, why? What are the consequences)? Any other ideas to efficiently adopt nano and minimize the risks of the fluctuating value?

Hi all,

Tommy from AllArk here.

Ever thought how you could use your XNO to spend while traveling?

We had soft launched a completely private, zero KYC XNO to Cash service across the US, UK, Europe and Middle East in 2023 and now, after many successful orders, we are Launching it fully.

Now you can fully exchange XNO (and other cryptos) for Cash (and spend it freely) in multiple cities in

  1. USA
  2. UK
  3. Europe
  4. Middle East

We have: $, £, €

If there is a city that is not listed, please reach out to us on Session and we will set something up.

We can cash out amounts ranging from a few thousand $ to $250k+ per transaction. You do not need to do anything after order is placed other than

  1. Meet up at specified location.
  2. Get cash.
  3. That's it.

Our coverage area is adding new cities every day and we currently offer cashing out XNO to Cash in over 120 cities across the 4 regions listed above. 🙂

Just a short and sweet announcement for the Nano community in 2024!

Hope this helps some of you.

Cheers! Tommy from AllArk

It has been almost 5 months since the network suffered from an attack that brought down the performance significantly with transactions taking days to complete for some users.

George Coxon said the team was investigating the attack and promised to give updates post-mortem. As far as I can tell, there has been no further updates since then, although the network seems to have recovered.
