If nano is fast and feeless for layer 1 coin, why the adoption is slow and many people prefer high fee networks yet. For example for someone from developing country $15(or even $10) is very high for a normal transaction fee(I'm also from one of them, Iran). Also by considering that Nano isn't mined or minted, then there isn't new Nano everyday. Why many people don't use it as great that Nano is. What are reasons?

In the process of implementing stealth addresses for Nano, I ended up writing a new Nano library to better suit the needs of that project. In case anyone else might find it useful, I've packaged it into its own crate and published it.

The crates.io page can be found here, the github repository can be found here, and (very limited) documentation can be found here.

My goal is to keep this library as simple, light, and flexible as reasonably possible, so there are no high-level APIs. It only provides access to bare functions and data types, as well as an RPC module that can be used to interact with the Nano network.

This library provides medium- and low-level access to Nano-related functions and data types. This includes some things that, when used incorrectly, could result in a loss of funds. Potentially-dangerous functions are usually marked as such, but I can't make any guarantees. Use at your own risk.

The library is fully open source, and utilizes the MIT license.

Playing around with different wallets, I sent some XNO to myself from Nautilus to Trust Wallet. The transaction appeared to send OK and the balance showed up on TW. A while later I take a closer look at it and see that this transaction has been stuck as "pending" for over a month.

I've checked the TW app to make sure it's up to date and I've tried to "refresh" it several times to get TW to accept the transfer, but no luck. What else can I do to get this transfer out of pending?

Update: Submitted a ticket with TW support. We'll see if they get their act together anytime soon.

Wow.. what an excellent use of nano. Just spent some time messing with it and it’s really great. Coupled with the ease of natriums “repeat transaction” shortcut it is literally quicker to use than a credit card. Love seeing new nano developments so I just wanted to give a shout out. I realized I had something I wanted to generate so I gave it a try and it worked remarkably well. If you haven’t tried it give it a shot.

As the title asks, is there a way to donate to Wikipedia using Nano? I know they took off direct crypto payments over a year ago, but I was curious if there is an indirect route with a payment processor or anything?

Hello! I operate CycleAirFilters.com and my whole motivation for inventing the product is to make a dent in the horrible plastic waste that’s generated from single-use air filters.

Long story short, I have also been a Crypto enthusiast for a long time, but I’m not at all technical. I run my store on Shopify.

Is there a way that I can accept Nano as a payment? For me, it aligns perfectly about being as zero-waste as possible on our mission to disrupt a massively wasteful industry. The problem is I’m not a computer scientist and have no coding acumen, so I use Shopify and their suite of apps for no-code solutions. Might there be a relatively “easy” or turn key way for Cycle Air to accept Nano as a payment option?

Thanks!

Great to be featured in The Times today in Money Mentor:

"Nano is a straightforward cryptocurrency, designed to be used for transactions and as a medium of exchange. While bitcoin has a heavy environmental toll and charges fees, Nano is completely fee-less, making it a popular way for sending crypto quickly. Transactions are also instant.

Nano doesn’t work on proof-of-work or mining. Instead, transactions are broadcast by users out to the blockchain. It uses an Open Representative Voting protocol to reduce energy use and increase efficiency."

Sorry if this is insulting but as the title says, how does nano get added to new exchanges if it's already fully distributed?

I see posts and tweets about potentially being added to etoro, coinbase, and x.com but how does that happen? Do they have to buy it from another centralized exchange like binance or kraken and then list it on their own?

So I believe the real Key to NANO being a success is already set in stone. The initial development for me was the absolute genius behind this project. NANO was the brainchild of some very astute people that realised it's success has to be written in its genetics from day 1 . They did not rush to produce a currency at top speed. They studied every single area of what the perfect currency should be, then spent time making sure NANO excelled in every single area. Not one point behind NANOs concept or inception was fudged or settled for, in their pursuit of perfection. So I believe NANO begun it's life, (from as much as was possible at the time), as near perfection. That way the product can be developed to complete perfection much easier, and in a way that others will never get close to, as they were flawed from day 1. Let's say you are building a car and you produce a bent chassis and square wheels. It doesn't matter how much you shine the paintwork, it will never be a perfect car. Even after massive development... you could change the square wheels, but that would not solve the chassis issue. The car would have to be rebuilt beyond recognition, which is an epic fail !!

So why is NANO not already a roaring success, well I believe the problemis our image . NANO is absolutely the prettiest person at the ball, and everyone knows that.. and can see that! Yet its shear beauty means no one is brave enough to ask it for a dance. So while people feel comfortable to ask others to dance the bell of the ball is left lonely in the corner. Until of course someone whose brave enough to waltz over and take NANO by the hand, appears. Will this person be E##n M##k, or is he indeed too scared to approach this raving beauty. Maybe we will have to wait for the next brave person to come along before NANO is finally whisked off to the dancefloor. But trust me, once the first brave soul has taken NANO for a dance, then everyone in the room will be trying their luck.

Let's see how this fairytale develops . I cant wait !!

This is an implementation of a privacy tool called stealth addresses for Nano, inspired by Monero. In short, stealth addresses allow you to publish an address, which anyone can see and send to, but only you as the owner know the transaction history of.

If you were to use a normal address instead, anyone would be able to see your account's balance, where your coins are coming from and going to, and your entire transaction history! But not with stealth addresses.

The implementation is written in Rust, but is not production-ready, so I won't release the code yet. At some point, this will be fully open source.

Video demonstration & more details:

Sending (top) and receiving (bottom) to a stealth address

In the video (I tried to crop it as best as possible lol), I'm sending three separate payments from the exact same account to the exact same stealth address. Each time, the funds are sent to a different randomly-generated account. The stealth address controls all of these accounts, but only the sender and the recipient of the transaction know that. This means that unlike normal accounts, noone except the owner of the stealth address can determine the number of coins it has, or trace where those coins are being sent to.

There is one caveat. While there are zero fees and zero centralization involved, a small portion of the payment must be sent to a special account (marked as "main" in the video) to "notify" the stealth address of the payment. This notification amount is currently set at around a billionth of a dollar, so the vast majority of the payment is still sent to the main masked address. Unfortunately, the notification is inherently linked to the stealth address, meaning a public observer will know when a stealth address receives a payment, but will not know the number of coins being sent or which address the coins are being sent to. Care is taken to ensure that the coins used in the notification transaction are separated from the rest of the payment.

I'm currently looking into improving and expanding upon this protocol. For example by improving the notification system, implementing decentralized coinjoin and/or integrating Nanonymous, and implementing different payment techniques with better privacy/UX properties. My end goal is to create a comprehensive privacy-focused wallet (with a graphical interface, not just a rough CLI like in the video).

I've seen multiple Nano privacy concepts come and go over the years, and I don't want that to happen to this. Unfortunately it's hard to get these things off the ground, but I hope this time will be different. If anyone has ideas, development skills, or other contributions, please share!

There was an interesting article about dust in crypto, posted on official nano blog about three weeks ago.

It's interesting because, if you just superficially skim through it, you could easily get the impression that with nano you will never have any problems with crypto dust.

But at this stage of acceptance I think the last paragraph of the article is maybe the most important:

"... it is important to understand that, despite nano being a dust-free network, services using nano could charge fees from their users or set minimum amounts for sending, receiving, exchanging, etc ".

Not long ago I checked one local exchange that offers nano. On top of the list of withdrawal fees for supported currencies was a paragraph that basically said withdrawal fees they charge go directly to the "miners".

Now, If I wanted to withdraw Nano, minimum amount was 0.064 XNO. And transfer fee was 0.032 XNO. And - the network to be used was set to Nano! :).

There even was additional info paragraph that repeats the necessity of the fees "because of the miners". All that on Nano withdrawal page :)

There are many problems with this. Given BTC dominance, people who are new to crypto might come to conclusion that every cryptocurrency protocol out there involves miners or is somehow tied to the way BTC works.

It also implies (actually, states) that fees are simply built into every single protocol/currency out there.

Also, 0.032 XNO (transfer fee) + 0.064 XNO (min amount to transfer) would be 0.096 XNO, and while with the current nano price this might seem tiny, let's say nano goes back to its ATH. 0.096 XNO of dust would be close to 3.5 dollars. That's quite a lot of dust for a fee-less currency suitable for micro donations.

Update: at the time of writing, transfer fee was set to 0.02 XNO, and min. amount to transfer to 0.04 XNO.

Of course, this is not a protocol fee, it's a self-proclaimed service fee. But the way they put everything together not just implies, but clearly states it is *not their fee*. It's because of the miners..

The point is - protocol can't force any service to stay within zero boundary.

Basically the sender can charge whatever they want on top of what protocol does (or doesn't). Also, service that receives nano can charge whatever they want - they just have to choose to do so.

Something to keep in mind. But also, it would be beneficial to whole community if somebody with more authority than myself (like Nano Foundation) could reach out to exchanges like this and ask for correction. This is detrimental for the currency, whole nano community, and for all the newcomers to the community. Nobody can force them to lower their fees, but they shouldn't label it like this.

Now, maybe they donate nano node operators those fees, I don't know. Theoretically, it's possible. Somehow, I doubt it.
