Nano Privacy Alias

Whitepaper: Selectively Transparent Alias Wallets for Nano (XNO)

Introduction

Bitcoin and Nano have proven that digital, decentralized payment systems work. However, both systems have a fundamental weakness: absolute transparency. Every transaction is visible to everyone. This promotes trust, but also surveillance and abuse.

In a free society, payment data must be selectively verifiable, but not universally monitored. This white paper presents a model for an alias-based, selectively transparent Nano-based payment system that combines the advantages of both worlds: privacy and traceability.

________________________________________

Problem

• Bitcoin and Nano are pseudonymous, but not anonymous.

• The traceability of every coin movement allows for profiling and mass surveillance.

• State-regulated economies require traceability for tax purposes and legal certainty.

• Many privacy coins are regulatory problematic and difficult to integrate into existing systems.

________________________________________

Objective

Development of a wallet and alias system for Nano that:

• Protects user privacy (no open traceability),

• Is auditable by businesses (incoming payments),

• Is accessible to tax authorities upon request (for legitimate reasons),

• Operates without fees, without mining, and with instant transaction confirmation.

________________________________________

Technical Concept

  1. Alias Identity

• Each user receives one or more pseudonymized aliases (e.g., u/max2025.nx).

• These are linked to wallets but are not publicly identifiable.

• The wallet address remains encrypted until visibility rights are granted.

  1. Selective Transaction Visibility

• Businesses receive payments via transparent business wallets (e.g., u/supermarkt.nx).

• The payment receipt is visible, but the sender is anonymized (e.g., u/kundenhash123).

• Tax authorities see the revenue, but not automatically the customer identities.

  1. Audit Wallets with Disclosure Option

• Users receive private wallet logs that can be shared with third parties (e.g., tax auditors) via audit links if necessary.

• Verification via zero-knowledge proof or encrypted "view-only keys."

  1. Temporary Aliases and Identity Rotation

• Users can create short-term aliases for individual transactions.

• These rotate automatically to prevent movement profiles.

  1. Corporate Obligations

• Business wallets must be permanently visible.

• Companies have a duty to provide evidence and documentation.

• Incoming payments can be traced pseudonymously.

________________________________________

Regulatory Compliance

• The system allows targeted audits without enabling mass surveillance.

• Users retain control over their data.

• Companies fulfill transparency obligations.

• Authorities are only granted access for legitimate reasons.

________________________________________

Advantages over existing systems

Criteria Bitcoin Monero Nano + Alias Model

Transparency for authorities Complete Hardly possible Selectively controllable

User privacy Weak High High

Regulatory acceptance Medium Low High

Energy consumption High Medium Zero

Speed Medium Medium Immediate

Fees Medium Low None

________________________________________

Future prospects

Such a system can be developed as a Layer 2 extension of Nano technology. It forms the basis for a free money system (FMS) that combines privacy, efficiency, and democratic control.

Possible extensions:

• Alias marketplaces

• Decentralized ID management

• Tax dashboard for self-assessment

________________________________________

Conclusion

Nano provides the technical basis for a true "Digital Cash 2.0" – fast, free, and sustainable. With the alias system presented here, it can become a tool for a liberal and simultaneously legally compliant digital economy.

What do you think of my idea and do you think someone can take it up and implement it?

Please create a tool with a fill blank inside the site, where the title is: “With this amount of XNO I would be in which ranking of the richest NANO whale?” It would improve competition by having more XNO.

I had a random question about why people haven't already used blockchain storage for piracy, and suddenly I had the idea to ask to see what it would say for the most environmentally friendly crypto. As you can see, without even mentioning Nano previously, it is the #1 choice! AI clearly doesn't care about hype, just functionality. Slowly but surely, Nano will grow!

PS: The downside, according to ChatGPT ("Downside: Limited adoption and network security depends on representatives.") is a downside that is basically saying: Few people use it. That's it. Nano is truly amazing!

Big news from the NanoPow team i.e. me: NanoPow v4 is now available, and this release brings you a work server! For those who don't know, NanoPow is a tool that generates proof-of-work values required for Nano transactions. The initial design focused on generating and validating work in a normal browser locally and offline so you don’t have to rely on third-party PoW services. It still does that, and now….

You can use it to run your own work server in as much time as it takes to install from npm! Expanding on the progress made in v3 which introduced a command line tool, NanoPow can now be launched as a Node server app and perform the same functions as the classic Nano node RPC functions work_generate and work_validate.

Here’s the highlights:

Changelog

Sidenote: There's a changelog in the actual repo now too.

  • New! Start NanoPow in server mode and create your own work server!
    • Deploy anywhere you can install Node.
    • Install globally with npm -g i nano-pow.
    • Start the server with nano-pow --server.
    • Send HTTP requests as described in the Nano node RPC documentation.
    • Abbreviated documentation is available by GET request.
  • Since this is a major release with breaking changes, v3.2 includes a backwards compatible layer so you can keep using the search and validate functions while you migrate them to the work_generate and work_validate functions instead (which are the only option in v4).
  • Improved initialization to reduce errors on load.
  • Actual hash result (i.e. difficulty in RPC response) is now returned along with nonce, and difficulty is specified to full 64-bit precision.
  • Cleaned up type definition file.
  • Updated documentation.

NanoPow Server: Setup Guide

I'm always excited for new use cases for Nano, and I had the idea to create a microtransaction-driven content publishing platform, but Subnano.me beat me to it! To support this new platform, I've written an in-depth guide on setting up NanoPow as a work server from your home computer that you can use privately or make available publicly if you so choose. It’s targeted toward, and was tested on, Linux and to a lesser extent Mac, and I imagine Windows can execute the same shell commands with MinGW or WSL2. I've been using my own desktop as my PoW source in my Nautilus wallet, and it's been working great!

If you want to support me and Subnano.me, you can read the paywalled article below:

Nano-GPT has removed withdrawals, which was my favorite thing about the entire service :/ The good news is, you can still manually message support on their discord to have them withdraw for you, but that won't last forever. We should protest haha. Let's all ask for withdrawals to come back; without them, I doubt I would use the service much (Don't get me wrong, I still love nano-gpt, it's just too much of an inconvenience for me \(〇_o)/).

Hello nanites! I apologise for this taking so long. I had intended to get it done much earlier but life got busy.

At any rate I have now published the Nanonymous github repository. Feel free to give it a look if you're so inclinded.

I will also take this time to mention that while the main codebase was never really designed to something used by anyone other than me I did make two smaller repos in the process that could be used by any Go developers out there. Those are the nanoKeyManager, and nanoTypes. NanoKeyManager in particular could get you jumpstarted by handling all the key generation and address derevation for you.

It's not impossible that I will revive Nanonymous at some point in the future, but for the time being I'm considering this the closing of this project. I had fun with it. Feel free to ask any questions you have and I'll try to answer.

Cheers,

~Tumbler

Hey everyone! I'm excited to announce the launch of Nano Market, a new way to buy and sell goods or services using Nano—with no registration required!

For those who don’t know me, I’m the creator of NanoRiver Faucet and Nano Raffle, and I’ve been building tools to grow the Nano ecosystem for a while now. With Nano Market, I wanted to create a simple, secure marketplace where buyers and sellers are in full control—without relying on an arbitrator to settle disputes. Iv'e spent quite a bit of time refining this project and it's at a point where I'm happy to release it to the public.

🛒 What Can You Buy & Sell?

Nano Market supports both digital and physical goods, including:

🎮 Game items & in-game currency (CS:GO skins, RuneScape gold, etc.)

🔑 CD keys & software licenses (Windows, Microsoft Office, Steam keys, etc.)

🖼️ NFTs & crypto assets

📦 Physical products (electronics, collectibles, clothing, etc.)

📜 Freelance services (graphic design, writing, programming, etc.)

🔄 How It Works

  • Sellers deposit collateral (equal to the listing price) before listing an item or service.
  • Buyers pay the item price plus 100% collateral when making a purchase.
  • Once the buyer approves the order, funds are released from escrow:
    • The buyer gets their collateral back.
    • The seller receives payment minus a 5% fee.
  • If either party fails to fulfill their obligation, they lose their collateral.

🏆 Why Use Nano Market?

No registration required – buy and sell instantly.

No third-party arbitrators – only the buyer and seller handle disputes.

Secure transactions – every deal is backed by collateral.

No scams – if a seller doesn’t ship and buyer doesn’t confirm, they lose funds.

❗ No Third-Party Dispute Resolution

One of the biggest issues with traditional marketplaces is that third-party arbitrators can fail to provide the correct outcome in disputes. In Nano Market, there are no third parties making decisions—only the buyer and seller are responsible for resolving disputes.

  • The buyer has full control over fund release.
  • If there’s an issue, both parties must resolve it via email.
  • If the buyer does not approve the transaction within 30 days, all funds are permanently locked.

📦 Shipping & Communication

All communication (including shipping details) is handled directly between buyer and seller via email. Nano Market does not facilitate shipping, so both parties must coordinate logistics.

💰 Fees & Payments

Nano Market takes a 5% fee per sale. Here’s an example of how the payments work:

1️⃣ Seller lists an item (pays 100% collateral)

2️⃣ Buyer purchases (pays 200%)

3️⃣ Seller ships item / delivers digital goods

4️⃣ Buyer approves – funds are released:

  • Buyer gets 100% back
  • Seller gets 195% (100% collateral + 100% payment - 5% fee)

I built Nano Market to make transactions safe, fair, and scam-free, without the reliance on any arbitrator. Another reason was to provide further utiility for NANO, opening up the trading of goods and services online.

Hello everyone! I'm excited to share my first personal project built on the Nano network: a provably fair lottery system where you choose both the winning probability and betting amount!

How It Works

The concept is simple:

  1. You pick your odds - Choose any winning probability between 0.1% and 99.9%
  2. You set your bet - Select any amount from 0.00001 to 0.1 XNO
  3. Your potential winnings are calculated automatically: Winnings = Bet Amount ÷ Win Probability

Example: If you bet 0.1 XNO with a 50% winning probability, you could win 0.2 XNO. The house takes a small 1% fee on winnings, so you'd receive 0.199 XNO in this case.

How to Play

The process is seamless:

  1. Enter your desired win probability and bet amount
  2. Scan the QR code to send XNO to the provided address
  3. Hit the "Play!" button and instantly see your results

Provably Fair: How We Ensure Transparency

The winning number is generated through a commit-reveal scheme that combines randomness from both the server AND you (the player). Here's how it works:

  1. Before you pay: The server generates a random "server secret" and sends you its hash
  2. When you click "Play!": Your browser generates a random "client secret" and sends it to the server
  3. The winning number is calculated: SHA256(server secret + client secret) % 1000
  4. The server reveals its secret: You can verify it matches the original hash using SHA256(server secret) == server secret hash

This dual-source randomness ensures neither party can manipulate the outcome – even I (as the developer) cannot predict or change the results once you've submitted your client secret!

Technical Verification Details

For the technically curious, the system implements the following cryptographic approach:

# Server side (before player payment)
server_secret = generate_random_string()
server_secret_hash = sha256(server_secret)
# Server sends server_secret_hash to client

# After payment, when player clicks "Play!"
# Client side
client_secret = generate_random_string()
# Client sends client_secret to server

# Server side (determines win/loss)
winning_number = (sha256(server_secret + client_secret) % 1000) + 1
# Server reveals server_secret to client
# Client wins if winning_probability (base 1000) >= winning_number

# Client verification (can be done by anyone)
assert sha256(server_secret) == server_secret_hash
verify_winning_number = (sha256(server_secret + client_secret) % 1000) + 1
# verify_winning_number must match the announced winning number

Limitations

  • Bets: 0.00001 to 0.1 XNO
  • Win probability: 0.1% to 99.9%
  • Maximum winnings: 1 XNO
  • Minimum winnings: 0.00001 XNO

Technical Improvements

I'm currently challenged by the PoW requirements of the Nano network. At the moment i have a single instance running the PoW server. In case of a win the payments can suffer a bit of delay but eventually you will receive the prize.

Disclaimer

This project is a personal experiment and should be treated as such. Its purpose it not to make money. Please play responsibly and only with funds you can afford to lose. I'm not responsible for any losses incurred while using this service. Consider that the project can have bugs or unintended behaviours.

Late last year Anthropic released a standard called Model Context Protocol (MCP), which helps AI agents/LLMs to use tools in a standardized fashion. This allows them to access all sorts of functionality - from file system access, databases, web browser control and basically anything you can imagine.

I built an MCP server that allows interaction with the Nano network. AI agents/LLMs using this server can:

  • Send nano from a predefined address
  • Query the network for account/block information

Code and setup instructions here:

View a demonstration of Claude Desktop using this MCP server

Nano is perfect for value transfer between AI agents as it doesn't require fee calculation and has very low latency due to its near-instant confirmation times.

Note: if you are testing this please use small amounts of Nano as this software should be treated as experimental.

After several weeks in beta, I thought I'd now officially introduce Subnano.me, a micro-transaction content platform powered exclusively by Nano.

What is Subnano?

Subnano allows anyone to publish premium content that users can unlock by making Nano micro-payments. Think Substack, but instead of subscriptions, each article or post is individually accessible through Nano payments.

Key Features:

  • No registration needed: Users can instantly unlock content without creating an account. Simply scan, pay, and access.
  • Instant payments: Content unlocks immediately after payment, typically within a second.
  • Ephemeral address system: Every purchase or login generates a unique, single-use Nano address. This system enhances security, reduces risk of targeted attacks, and simplifies transaction tracking. Using the same address for multiple purchases immediately grants access to all content previously unlocked by that address, simplifying repeated access.
  • Nano login: Users have the option to log in quickly and securely by making a small Nano payment that gets refunded immediately.
  • User-friendly design: I'm a frontend developer by trade, so I've been having a lot of fun polishing the UI and UX for Subnano.
  • Secure and reliable: Includes real-time transaction monitoring, logins with Nano, and comprehensive authentication controls.

How to get involved:

Subnano is now fully live, and I'm actively looking for more writers and content creators interested in experimenting with Nano micro-payments. If you're interested in tech, crypto, or writing in general, consider giving Subnano a try.

Visit here to check it out: subnano.me

I'd appreciate any feedback and suggestions. Looking forward to seeing your posts on Subnano.

Time for an update again! We now also keep an update log for most updates (not everything) on NanoGPT, if you click the little "bell" next to the X/Twitter icon you can scroll through them.

That said, here are some big ones.

  • We added video models, like Veo 2, Kling 1.5 Pro, Minimax, and Hunyuan video.
  • All models can now take images. For those that don't natively support it we essentially work around the problem for you by using an image-understanding model to give a very detailed description to the mAll models can now take imagesodel that you are actually querying.
  • We added a "Try Nano" to the balance page. Sponsored by XNOPay this allows everyone to try out Nano by getting 0.1 Nano sent to them.
  • You can now set your representative in the balance page by clicking settings next to your Nano balance. Mostly relevant for Nano folks hah, but we figure the more balance we build up the more important it becomes. This also means you can set us as your payout address directly on services like CryptoVision.
  • We now have a Chrome Extension! Query NanoGPT from any website by hitting ALT + S (Windows) or CMD + S (Mac).
  • We added "reasoning" to Gemini 2.0, ChatGPT, and GPT 4.5 Preview. Similar to with DeepClaude we Frankensteined two models together: Deepseek R1 + for example Gemini 2.0, so that first Deepseek R1 reasons, then passes on your prompt + its reasoning to Gemini 2.0/ChatGPT etc. This improves their output quality quite a bit.
  • A bunch of new models: Deepseek V3 upgraded, Hunyuan T1, QwQ 32b, Gemma models, Jamba models, Mistral small, Olympiccoder, ASI1 Mini, some Drummer models, GPT 4o web search models, and Flux Lightning for images.
  • We now have an actual API Documentation page. Comes with examples of how to use our endpoints, and you can even use our API directly from the documentation to try out how the calls work.
  • For those using credit cards we've added auto recharge so that you never run out of funds if you don't want to. It's fully opt-in, not enabled by default obviously.
  • Last but definitely not least: we now have a landing page designed and created by Brazy (of Armour Hosting). Paid for in Nano, of course.

On another note we were at our first conference (or rather I, Milan was) representing NanoGPT and I met a user in the wild, so that was exciting.

We'll try and release the payment statistics for March as soon as possible after the month has ended as well - I haven't looked at them yet but we hope they keep being a good argument for "add Nano payments" to other merchants!
