I was thinking of the Royal show but the ticket prices shut that idea down fast.

I'm feeling a bit despairing filling out my ballot, because there seems to be so few candidates who have even a vague idea of what governance is supposed to be.

You can see the candidates here:

https://www.albany.wa.gov.au/council/council-business/candidate-profiles.aspx

I haven't studied them in detail, but of the 24 I would say less than a third have "reasonable" platforms (even if I disagree with them).

There's about 8 who are mask-off anti-trans anti-woke anti-dei MAGA dickheads, (and I suspect several more who haven't been as forthright about their views).

The remainder are just hapless idiots who very clearly don't understand governance.

Hopefully, the candidates aren't indicative of the opinions generally held by the populace.

Moving into a new rental SoR and hoping anyone can suggest me any internet providers they’re using / recommend. Ratings on service, reliability and most of all cost would be awesome! 🤩

I found this section interesting

Ms Hayward[Port Hedland resident] believed compulsory voting would "absolutely" enhance the quality of local councils. "I think that if it's compulsory, then people are going to take more of an interest and possibly give them the opportunity to have a voice, whereas before they might not have wanted to do that," she said.

According to the Western Australian Electoral Commission, local government elections in 2023 achieved a voter turnout rate of 31.6 per cent, up from 30.2 per cent in 2021 and 29.07 per cent in 2019.

#The West Australian - 06 August 1951

PERTH'S COLDEST DAY WE HAVE SEEN EVER
On one of the State's most boisterous winter days, Perth yesterday had its coldest day on record, with a maximum temperature of 48deg. Sharp falls of snow occurred in the Stirling Ranges and almost continuous hail fell at Albany.
A record was established for Perth when the mercury reached its highest point of 48deg. at 12.40 p.m.
This followed a temperature of 46deg. at 9 a.m. and 45deg. at noon. Temperatures after noon were: 1 p.m., 47deg.; 2 p.m., 46deg.; 3 p.m., 47.1deg.. The lowest maximum temperature ever reported in Perth previously was 49deg. on July 20, 1890. The coldest day was June 20, 1905, when the maximum temperature was 49.4deg. The lowest maximums recorded in August were 50deg. on the 20th of the month in 1892 and on the seventh of the month in 1900. An officer of the Weather Bureau said last night that the cold weather would continue in the southern-half of the State for the next day or two. Showers were expected gradually to contract to the south coast. From 9 a.m. on Saturday to 7 o'clock last night 106 points of rain fell in Perth. This raised the month's total to 215 points compared with the August average of 570 points.
