Came across this post on Reddit - who do you think is behind it? Seems to stupid for Reddit themselves to be using chat GBT to bot their own site.

I have been trying to avoid Reddit. However, I still often end up being forced to click on a link to a post while searching for something specific. It is a hassle to manually change the link to libreddit or teddit everytime.

For my own purposes, I wrote a userscript to redirect any Reddit link automatically to Libreddit. Since, I thought I should post it here since someone could find it useful, and many of you prefer using Teddit, I also made a Teddit version. You should install only one.

Reddit to Libreddit: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/469587-reddit-to-libreddit-redirect
Reddit to Teddit: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/469588-reddit-to-teddit-redirect

You will need a userscript manager addon like Violentmonkey installed in your browser to make use of these scripts.

Disclaimer: These are my first ever userscripts.

What would happen if everyone downvoted everything when sorting by new on Reddit?

Looking at Fedidb.org the Fediverse Network Statistics, I'm seeing about 98,000 Active users as of the 27th. That's at least 50k new users this month. Welcome to Lemmy, fellow migrants!

Hi yall!!
I swear I want to do my due diligence and learn it and google it myself...
But i really cant allocate enough time between my new career, family and home stuff...

I usually only browse via mobile and it is kinda more difficult to get a hang of it...i usually never know where i'm at and what i am looking

Also...on mobile like 80% of the posts are in polish and I can't really figure out where i am lookin into.

I just started coding and can't even allocate time in the week to code something on my own or learn something new...so struggling to learn what to do here, seems even harder.

I swear I want to allocate more time and not be a pain to others, but I also kinda would like a place where i can ask things and read answers to other user's questions about switching to a new platfom.

Also, many times i google about it, It is either a super long youtube video, or a reddit post...and i'm not going to click on the reddit thing at all

A few days ago, I advertised my small /kbin instance on a few magazines. For those that checked it out--thank you! I have a number of updates to share, and I thought I'd re-post here for those who may not be subscribed to our meta magazine or may not have seen the original post.

I'm happy to answer any questions, feedback or hatemail in the comments!

Google executives acknowledged this month they need to do a better job surfacing user-generated content after the recent Reddit blackouts.

Title is pretty much it. Woke up this morning to an email in the inbox with a reddit message notification from u/reddit

Your account has been permanently suspended for breaking the rules.

The thing is not only have I not been on reddit since the protest (barring google searches while not signed in on a private browser, for specific questions unfortunately), but it's a lurker account. I have one post from a year ago asking a question, then a few sporadic comments with the last being in April.

I suppose the breakup with Reddit is a mutual thing now lol. Just a very strange scenario.

Just realized that the other day.

I had initially intended to feel it out and honor the blackout from 12-14, then figured, "I'm here now, might as well ride out the month if Reddit isn't responding in any meaningful way to the community's requests" and now I think I'll just be in the fedi apps for the foreseeable future.

It's different here, but it hasn't been a struggle and it gets better and better with time. Feels nice to not support inhumane and user-hostile endless corporate greed.

As I recall, Reddit really dragged their heels in implementing GDPR-mandated data checkouts, citing technical challenges and privacy issues, but I'm sure it was more about the technical challenges and laziness (old codebase that has kind of sucked since forever and they're not keen on touching it). This was when the law went into effect in 2018.

I requested archives of my data from Reddit as per GDPR a few weeks ago, and it's still pending. And the page said "oh, uh, we'll provide them within 30 days." ...which is well within the letter of the law, if not the spirit. Other sites I've requested my data from can provide it within days, usually.

All I can say as someone who's been perplexed about Reddit's tech side for a long time is that it's pretty damn emblematic of the whole site.

I should no longer be amazed by anything, yet here we are. Either the delete feature was sloppily implemented, or someone implemented the most aggressive, proactive undelete feature in history.

Any easy way to find a list of Lemmy communities that match reddits your subscribed to. There were a lot of tools when moving from Twitter to mastodon and I was wondering if someone made something similar for Lemmy.

This video shows that Reddit refused to delete all comments and posts of its users when they close their account via a CCPA / GDPR request.

This is absolutely insane, and shows that companies OWN you.

We reach a new low every day...

I see a lot of comments from bootlickers on how the protests are dumb and stupid and dont work and engagement metrics are still holding but the quality of posts and comments has noticeably depreciated imo. So much so that whenever I visit the site Im actually shocked at how bad it is.

Hello All,

I'm trying to assist in migrating a few subs over to Kbin/Lemmy, I'm still confused on the difference between Kbin and Lemmy.

Regardless, have been looking into tools to migrate content from the subs, and came across this one https://github.com/rileynull/RedditLemmyImporter

However, the readme assumes readers have knowledge they don't have, so it's for example not clear to me if it's possible to "import" the database created by this tool to an existing lemmy instance or if I would need to create an entirely new instance just to host the content (and then what? can instances be "merged"?)

Thanks for your time in advance.

This article is an x-post from m/quickstart

Quick note before starting: although this article is far from comprehensive, I wanted to get something done in time for the next wave of reddit migrants when the third party apps close down.

What you see below was written in anticipation for the same set of questions from new users being asked again and again.

If you want me to add anything in, or make any corrections, comment here and I will do my best to make amendments before I repost it on 1st July. Thanks!

How to use this guide

This article is a work in progress, but what I am hoping to achieve is an easy to follow, quick to consume guide that presents you with the knowledge you need in a somewhat logical order.

To that end, I have divided it up into sections, or 'tiers'. The idea being that once you are confident at one tier, you can move up to the next. So let's start with...

1. Lurker Tier

Intro to subscriptions and magazines (kbin communities)

Other basic navigation

Voting and boosting content

Optional quality of life settings

Exploring the Fediverse

Useful information

2. Contributor Tier

Basic terminology

Don't worry if all these terms don't click with you right away. You might even be able to disregard a few of them. Either way, you can always come back and refer to this later.

  • A 'magazine' is a kbin community

  • Magazines contain 'threads' and a 'microblog'

  • The terms thread and microblog can cause some confusion, so we'll clear that up soon. But first...

  • A thread is a discussion based on either an 'article' (i.e. text post), a link, a photo, or a video (although video is not yet supported)
    How to create an article

  • A 'comment' is a response to a thread

  • A 'microblog' is a collection of 'posts' that are based on the magazine itself as opposed to a single article, link, photo, or video

  • Confusingly, a post can still contain things like images, it's just that its replies will appear alongside all the other microblog posts
How to upload an image to display on a post

  • Responses to microblog posts are called 'replies'

  • The distinction between comments and replies is significant because they are split by type in your user profile by those names.

  • A 'favourite' is a thread you have upvoted using the arrow button
    How to view your favourites

Threads vs microblog posts

Thread Post
Shown on front page ✅️YES ❌️NO
Added to favourites ✅️YES ❌️NO
Can be downvoted ✅️YES ❌️NO
Has a title ✅️YES ❌️NO
Can be pinned to top ✅️YES ❌️NO
Can be boosted ✅️YES ✅️YES
Shown on microblog ❌️NO ✅️YES
Can comment ✅️YES ❌️NO
Can reply ❌️NO ✅️YES

Staying engaged

3. Addict Tier

To make good use of the tips in this tier you must have the prerequisite knowledge from tiers 1 and 2.

Tips in this tier may also be quite quirky (e.g. only works on desktop) or require detailed explanations. Or they might be advanced niche tips for users looking to get the absolute most out of kbin.

Although you've reached the end, this article is still a work in progress. If you've any corrections, or feel something is missing, you can reach out to @Friend or post to m/quickstart. Thanks for reading!
