BOSTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Friday granted the Trump administration’s emergency appeal to temporarily block a court order to fully fund SNAP food aid payments amid the government shutdown.

A judge had given the Republican administration until Friday to make the payments through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. But the administration asked the appeals court to suspend any court orders requiring it to spend more money than is available in a contingency fund, and instead allow it to continue with planned partial SNAP payments for the month.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. AP’s earlier story follows below.

BOSTON (AP) — Residents in some U.S. states began to receive their full SNAP food aid Friday as an appeals court left in place, for now, an order requiring President Donald Trump’s administration to fund the monthly benefits amid a U.S. government shutdown.

Are you actually saying that there have never been successful uprisings within a country? Because history is full of Revolutions that weren't caused by outside forces.

I can cite the American and French Revolutions, as two obvious ones. We don't need to be invaded to be saved.

And if we have to have a revolution to get our country back, we will have plenty of foreign support for it. The rest of the world despises Trump, even his so-called friends, and if there were a credible revolution, we would have help.

We also have an extremely strong military and legal leadership with all the lawyers and Generals they've fired. I just read how all of the lawyers are forming numerous boutique law firms to specifically fight MAGA policies, with each form specializing in a different issue - immigration, fired workers, etc.

What are the Generals doing? Who knows? Generals aren't exactly known for the candor. The remaining ones were beyond offended at being summoned to DC to have Uberputz Hegseth yell at them, and are clearly unhappy.

The lawyers didn't slink away when they were fired, what are the chances that the equally ignominiously fired Generals, who spent their lives in defense of this nation, are going to just fade off into retirement? Or are they going to want to retire on one last victory, the biggest of their entire lives and careers - nothing less than saving America from a hostile invading force?

A civil war in the US in its current state would destroy the country. The end would be fractured states with their own borders. The US civil war in the 1800's was a war between two sides with borders between them. A civil war now would be neighbors killing each other in the streets. There's no glorious revolution to fix things here. If we don't fix is legally and peacefully, we don't fix it at all.

We've had a Cold Civil War since Newt Gingrich took over Congress with his Contract With America. It's just now threatening to go Hot.

Your scenario was common during the Civil War. The Union Capital, Washington DC, was very close to Richmond, VA, which was the Capital of the Confederacy. Traitors and Spies roamed the streets of both cities, and nobody knew who to trust.

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if the final outcome is a balkanization of America, with the Northeast breaking away, the Pacific coast breaking away, as well as the upper Midwest. MAGA can have all the shithole states and their weekly recreational mass shootings. MAGA will lose all access to West Coast ports (they can pay huge tariffs for access, they'll like that), NYC/Wall Street, and they can try to figure out how to survive without the support of the rest of the world, 90% of which will not support Trumpland.

The Northeast and Pacific Coast, and Illinois/Minnesota/ Wisconsin, can form alliances with Canada and Mexico, and surround about 2/3 of Trumpland, and if the MAGAs decide to get froggy, it will be pretty easy to cut them off from the rest of the world, and crush them.

So who gets Vegas? I doubt Vegas will want the shit hole states, they'd much rather join the states with big cities like LA, SF, NYC, and Chicago. Nevada will go with Pacifica.

I feel like Vegas will end up like it looks in Blade Runner 2049. It's so dependent on water from other states that I don't see it sustaining.
