Community Rules

You must post before you leave

Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Use content warnings and/or mark as NSFW when appropriate. Most posts with content warnings likely need to be marked NSFW.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Avoid shilling for corporations, posting advertisements, or promoting exploitation of workers.

Proselytization, support, or defense of authoritarianism is not welcome. This includes but is not limited to: imperialism, nationalism, genocide denial, ethnic or racial supremacy, fascism, Nazism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, etc.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

adnausium simulates a click on the ads to waste the advertising companies money since they pay per click.
I have cost them over $3,000 teehee :3

I use Vinegar on iOS. Has worked great

[–] princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah! It breaks on occasion, so clearly YT fights back, but it's always fixed within 24hrs.

[–] Turret3857 1 points 2 weeks ago

Theres also Yattee If you want a dedicated app

[–] Z3k3@lemmy.world 51 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Haven't they started rolling out ads in premium

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 31 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

https://lemmy.world/c/revanced

Make sure you don't fall for fake revanced sites, but everybody do check it out.

It takes the YouTube app file (.apk) that you download and modifies it to include or exclude certain features.

[–] LNRDrone@sopuli.xyz 10 points 2 weeks ago

The premium that includes youtube music does not have ads yet. I've heard the cheaper one that doesn't include music has ads, but I can't confirm that.

Yeh I'm pretty sure i saw an article talking about premium with "limited ads" to the search engines

Edit.

Where i got the above from https://9to5google.com/2024/11/13/youtube-premium-ads-statement/

When I messaged about the Crunchyroll ads they said it was a problem. Must've got a lower level support guy, lol

[–] tb_@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

There's a Premium Lite subscription which includes ads on certain kinds of videos (among which music, I believe)

Tweet of someone saying "the best adblock for YouTube is a Premium sub" which has been photoshopped in a way to imply that the person who Tweeted has the occupation of "Slave"

[–] Hexarei@beehaw.org 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Not photoshopped, a tweet reply I think

Thank you kind stranger

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 14 points 2 weeks ago

I don’t mind paying for the service at a reasonable price. The US pricing is out of control.

But I have a VPN so I don’t pay that much. Sometimes YouTube kicked me off and I use another location.

But like why? IM TRYING TO PAY YOU, YOUTUBE. The next step is full Adblock and you get nothing.

Its like they don’t even want my money and would rather I just block the ads for free.

[–] gil2455526@lemmy.eco.br 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Premium is an Adblock for YouTube so far. Not for long, though.

[–] princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah if Premium Lite is anything to go off,,,,

[–] froufox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

i'm in this picture kinda (i have yt premium for music streaming) 😔

[–] Grerkol@leminal.space 22 points 2 weeks ago

I'm in this picture kinda (i have been castrated) 😔

[–] Turret3857 10 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Why pay for what's already free?

Kreate for Android

Yattee for iOS

[–] froufox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

I don't have a phone except working one which doesn't allow installation of any APKs, plus my wife also uses YT Music and YouTube family subscription

[–] Flames5123@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Because I use the YouTube app on Apple TV. It doesn’t have all the fancy stuff. Plus I want to kinda support the dozens of creators I watch without spending $120/month since they’d all be Patreon/Twitch.

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 weeks ago (13 children)

Paying the streaming company does not support the artist.

A single month of patreon is gonna give them more money than watching all their videos with ads, you can just rotate

[–] P4ulin_Kbana@lemmy.eco.br 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

My father (or is it dad?) pays for YT Premium and our family uses it. I am honestly grateful for it. I mostly watch on a Smart TV from 2016, which means I can't install any of those crazy craps people recommend. I've heard the ad situation is better in Brazil

[–] Turret3857 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

You can depending on what OS your SmartTV runs.

Yattee for appleTV OS

SmartTube for Android TV & Fire TV

Clipious for Android TV and Fire TV

Playlet for Roku

YouTube AdFree for WebOS (I havent used this one before, never had a WebOS device nor known anyone with one.)

and for any other device I'm sure you can just look up "(OS Name Here) Ad-free youtube client" and find results

[–] P4ulin_Kbana@lemmy.eco.br 2 points 1 week ago

That's impressive, though I don't like (the sound of) multiple Smart TV OSes. But the one I've mentioned can't install any if those things, it's really old.

Just putting this here :)
