But vaccines are bad? This guy is all over the place

[–] breakingcups@lemmy.world 63 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It boils down to wanting to feel smarter than the "establishment".

That's why even when this asshole promotes unconventional treatment avenues that you might agree with and want to be accessible to the peiple, you should be very skeptical of the safety of doing it his way, because he has shown to completely disregard responsible scientific processes for progress.

Tim Minchin once said something like "You know what they call alternative medicine that has been proven to work? Medicine."

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 37 points 2 days ago

Yeah, my first reaction was, "Sure, those things may well have a beneficial medical application. I still don't want Captain Roadkill Brainworms directing their use."

Broken clock

Mentally he's associating this with the holistic bullshit he uses to justify drinking raw milk and rejecting vaccines.

Let's hope he doesn't find out about the many mental health studies that validate psychedelics as a treatment option, or he might change his mind

[–] aceshigh@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Yup. Mushrooms have become very popular

[–] pressedhams@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago

The pieces that are left of it.

[–] DaleGribble88@programming.dev 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Huh, I guess he is a broken clock

[–] L7HM77@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

Every now and then, the worm gets tired, and must take a nap.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 41 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Damn, and just a few years ago Fox News had that guy say "everyone should have a psychedelic experience" and all the other talking heads immediately were like "well, maybe not"

[–] Carmakazi@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Their geriatric audience still makes the connection between drugs like that and the unpatriotic, godless hippie movement.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I mean I'll be for this in the sense that the more conservatives who take psychedelics the more people who will hopefully "break free" of the brainwashing. I'm hoping if they start taking it, it'll rewrite their brains for the better.

I think the psychedelic experience brings out something latent in the person. If the person is self obsessed (musk, rogan, etc.) it's not going to do anything positive.

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 5 points 2 days ago

Well, remember that the hippies are all part of that geriatric cohort.

Different drugs

[–] tubthumper@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Do not fucking trust the ends of these seemingly reasonable means.

Should we really count on this department and its affiliates to quality control and dole out these substances in a scientifically accurate and medically approved manner during treatment?

What's stopping these purveyors from issuing you an altered or "experimental" version of these drugs, with or without your knowledge?

What happens if you "unexpectedly" experience a psychotic break or some other severe mental crisis as a result of these drugs and, buried somewhere in the fine print you signed, your rights to discontinue the regimen and seek further treatment independently are suddenly, simply, out of your hands?

Because this man and those around him will gleefully schlep you to a "wellness farm" instead.

You follow?

Just... Jesus Christ just please read the fine fuckin print of any drug "trial" you sign yourself up for.

[–] Mohamed@lemmy.ca 27 points 2 days ago

Wait till RFK hears that "mainstream" medicine is exploring psychedelic treatments as well - then he has ro disavow them to stay a contrarian.

[–] DandomRude@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago

A few days ago, I was talking to some old friends of mine about the CDC — all of them specialists or senior physicians at clinics in Germany, Switzerland, and Spain— and they all agreed that the CDC is done for: Almost all of its reputable employees have been fired, its very important work has been largely shut down — this organization is now a shadow of its former self and is no longer taken seriously by medical professionals.

This shows once again that the despicable Trump administration is truly a massive problem for the entire world.

Task failed successfully?

[–] AlexLost@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

This guy's a huge doofus, but I support this decision. Psychedelics can help us unlock our minds and overcome our mental blockages.

[–] GlassHalfHopeful@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Finally, something from him that makes sense. Get the funding, do the research, and make this happen. Too much untapped potential.

[–] Elbow1240@lemmy.zip 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No, doing research is woke. Let's just let companies sell whatever psychedelic treatments they want.

[–] GlassHalfHopeful@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Because capitalism works so well for the consumers. 😏

[–] yarrage@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

Who said it's about the customers?

[–] Blackout@fedia.io 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Why research it when you can ask AI?

[–] GlassHalfHopeful@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

Heh. Are you one of the executives I report to?

[–] fullsquare@awful.systems 10 points 2 days ago

it's a legit thing even if we don't know how exactly it works

[–] SpiceDealer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 days ago

Look, Bobby, I can get behind this but I don't go my drug dealer when I'm feeling sick.

[–] CriticalMiss@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The worst person you know just made an excellent point

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Not really. This is like saying “supplements are good for you”. Without research and regulation, you have no idea what works and what makes things worse. This dude doesn’t believe in the scientific method. They’re just going to allow quacks to woo woo psychedelics at the public.

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Its actually basically already like that. Replace quacks with drug dealers and woo woo with drugs

[–] pressedhams@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago

MK Ultra 2.brainworm

[–] AmidFuror@fedia.io 1 points 2 days ago

Time to question the point.

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 3 points 2 days ago

I still think this tracks for a nurgle cultist. Im disappointed magic mushrooms were not specifically called out but im going to believe it is implied.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 3 points 2 days ago

This will make living on the streets way easier to handle.

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world -1 points 2 days ago

Psychedelics and conspiracy theories go great together. How bout those Epstein files?
