Children are starving and the president is focused on renovating white house bathrooms with gold fixtures. He is certainly following Nero's footsteps.

Trump has no taste. If it is the most expensive then it is the most appropriate, but only if it's gold and white.

[–] HulkSmashBurgers@reddthat.com 11 points 15 hours ago

When he's done with all the renovations the white house is gonna be Epsteins Pedo Party Palace.

This administration does not have their priorities straight. Not paying employees, firing thousands of people, this obsession with gold. The end of USAID, so much more, it's just so disheartening.

[–] brandocorp@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Guess he's really not planning to leave if he's doing this much redecorating.

[–] a_postmodern_hat@lemmy.world 7 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

And funding it privately iirc. 100% he is not planning to leave.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 1 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Trump spending his own money?

[–] adaveinthelife@lemmy.ca 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I can't say he wouldn't because he's never had any of his own.

But I think I can guess pretty accurately that even if he somehow earned a dollar completely on his own, he probably would still try and borrow from someone else first.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

That certainly seems to fit more with the Trump I've seen so far. His spending his own money, especially on something semi-public would make no sense at all.

[–] Prior_Industry@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Sponsored by big tech. At least the ballroom is...

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Their grovelling is embarrassing.

[–] Prior_Industry@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

Cost of doing business. Sad times.

[–] MourningDove@lemmy.zip 17 points 22 hours ago

Kings did this intentionally to prove their wealth and power while the masses begged for food. It helped them illustrate that there was a pecking order.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 5 points 18 hours ago

and every surprise is guaranteed to be more surprising than the last!

[–] thedeadwalking4242@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

Does any one have photos over before the 1940s redo. Because I’m sure it didn’t look like thay

[–] youngGoku@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

What a disgrace. He's tearing up history and smearing his gold flake feces all over the place.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago

He is certainly following Nero's footsteps.

A monumental rotating dining room certainly isn't beyond him. There's another wing to destroy after all.

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The whole thing is coming down. You know it.

[–] dellish@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I'm sure the only thing they don't have an issue with is the name "white house".

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 4 points 16 hours ago

Funny that. I bet there’s a press release soon: “we found structural damage in the WH” followed by a complete demolishment.

[–] crystalmerchant@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My big takeaway from these pictures is that one can take a shit by an unfrosted floor-to-ceiling window to the outside

[–] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 1 points 19 hours ago

Does he wipe looking out onto the gardens or facing inwards, giving onlookers a show?

[–] myfunnyaccountname@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago

This is how you make America great!!!!!!!!!!! Just non-stop winning! Fuck the kids and all humans in the borders. Food and healthcare are boring. A renovated bathroom, that’s amazing!!!

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 41 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It isn't your fucking house asshole.

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

Yes it is. No one is stopping him from anything. He could nuke the entire planet and he’d rule over rubble.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 15 points 1 day ago

Hey that's right. It's our (taxpayer's) house. We should evict him.

[–] tonytins@pawb.social 130 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He is turning it into Mar-a-Lago.

[–] meathorse@lemmy.world 63 points 1 day ago (8 children)

I get it, he wants to make it feel like home if he's gonna be living there for the rest of his life.

He won't be stepping down from this gig, he knows the consequences he'll have to face if he becomes a normal citizen again.

[–] AniZaeger@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I get it, he wants to make it feel like home if he’s gonna be living there for the rest of his life.

Much of the White House was decorated by Jackie Kennedy, and her husband ended up spending the rest of his life there, so maybe this will be the same thing...

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 12 points 1 day ago

Holy shit is that tacky.

Can you imagine the president having nothing better to do than golf, take pictures of the bathroom, and fuck children?

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

Ugh. I don't love the green, but that after picture is hideous.

...how many bugs -and I don't mean the crawly critters- do you think are making it into the whitehouse through all these renovations?

In the fantasy world of a functional US government following the Trump regime, how do you even handle this? Everything he touches is a gigantic liability.

I think at this point I'd have the WH converted into a museum highlighting shit like the dangers of misinformation, and just pick up ops from one of the military bases that we're sure Trump never set foot in.

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

During Nixon's renovations he embedded so many bugs and wires in the walls it interfered with the structural integrity of the plaster.

So there's precedent for counter-surveillance scrubdowns.

But, that only happens if the WH is taken back from the dictator inside it.

Try to tell me this fuck isn't intending on staying past 2028. :/

[–] nymnympseudonym@piefed.social 14 points 1 day ago

His old strategist Bannon said to The Economist just last week that Trump will serve a third term, and that their criteria for success is MAGA in control of every American institution, forever

No, not hyperbole, damn near exact quote

He's been selling Trump 2028 merch for a while now. His new campaign slogan is "Rewrite the rules."

  1. Holy shit how fucked are are that this is even news. I hate this so much.

  2. I hate when a stupid motherfucker is right because, outside the gold, the marble looks way fuckin better than that green.

  3. To claim that marble and gold is somehow more era appropriate for Lincoln is pretty standard Trump-alternate-reality delusion fueled by narcissism.

[–] redwattlebird@lemmings.world 3 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Agreed on all counts aside from 2.

The original had class and functionality, complete with datum lines and concealed lighting. It was aged, for sure, but the design comes together and looks comfortable.

The new one is literally just slabs of maybe real marble but i doubt it. There's no demarcation between floor and ceiling. It's as if someone just used the paint bucket tool and clicked fill. The lighting is atrocious; if you're in the bath you cop an eyeful of a glare bomb.

I'd take the original any day. Would have probably just added sheer curtains to the windows.

That kind of marble is pretty dated in 2025 too, it's 5-10 years overdone at this point.

[–] Stabbitha@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago

I completely agree on 2, I think the green looked like ass and the marble is a significant improvement. I don't get his obsession with gold though, brushed nickel would've gone much better in there.

[–] brem@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 day ago

Gold is tacky as fuck and that dude wouldn't know good taste even if it was sold at the bottom of a ketchup bottle.

[–] Strawberry@lemmy.blahaj.zone 27 points 1 day ago

I think the marble looks weird as fuck and would make the bathroom uncomfortable to be in, while the green tile is very pleasing and cozy, with nice accents

For a heterosexual man he sure seems preoccupied with interior design and his makeup.
