[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

I hear Americans bag out newsom he’s the only force standing against these idiots.

[–] rirus@feddit.org 3 points 8 hours ago

More importantly the republicans gained seats

[–] ebolapie@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

oh look it's that fucking guy that I hate

[–] stinky@redlemmy.com 6 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

One of their principle weapons is a playground tactic: grab your fist then hit you with it and say, "stop punching yourself" You'd never respond, "I am not actually punching myself, you have grabbed my fist and hit me with it" you'd just run, or hit them back. We need to do the same thing here. Calling out their hypocrisy is useless. We need to either ignore it or fight back.

When you join an university because your father is rich, but you have no idea what any of the subjects are.

[–] Dozzi92@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

They think the subjects are you and me.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago

Modern American Universities are absolutely stuffed with these people, though

[–] BaldManGoomba@lemmy.world 38 points 1 day ago

Also Census is suppose to count EVERY one in the states since when put in law some people weren't citizens. Also Trump tried to do average citizens question on the Census and it got struck down at the Supreme Court

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 237 points 1 day ago (3 children)

The census is a tallying of the people that live in the country. Legal or not, immigrants do live here and should be counted. This argument is dumb on so many levels.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

They've been trying to normalize the idea that it only counts citizens for a couple of decades now.

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

It certainly is strange that the "slavery wasn't that bad" party is against non citizens being counted now.

[–] ProfTriathlon@midwest.social 84 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Jim Banks is dumb on so many levels.

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 50 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Isn't that a prerequisite for being a republican at this point?

[–] Red_October@piefed.world 5 points 20 hours ago

They preferentially select for Evil first, but being both evil and dumb on so many levels is definitely how to get ahead in the organization.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 41 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There are a small portion of smart Republicans who are just evil and get the stupid ones to go along with them. See Project 2025 for an example.

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeahhhhhh idk man. I just don't think it's smart to support the group of people spurring on the destruction of the very environment that they require to survive. Both in a global warming sense as well as a general societal sense. Absurd unethical greed has worked a couple of times in history, but it backfires really frequently.

I think the smarter tactic would be to simply keep the machine running the same way it has been, while giving fractions of your wealth to the poor as a pittance. That way you can still live an absurdly privileged life and not have to worry about being shot in the street in NYC.

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 10 points 1 day ago

That's why you're not a part of the Heritage Foundation.

[–] YoiksAndAway@piefed.zip 14 points 1 day ago

And Jim Banks isn't even the dumbest Republican in the Senate. That honor goes to Tommy Tuberville, hands down.

Only surpassed by those that vote for him and those that don't bother voting against him.

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Electoral college is why people care

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Do they not live in those states?

Which includes quite a few red states btw. It's hardly a partisan advantage... But if Texas and Florida wants to lose some seats...

https://brilliantmaps.com/number-of-unauthorized-illegal-immigrants-by-us-state/

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I'm not saying right or wrong, but it could impact who gets elected. Illegal immigrants don't need to vote directly to impact elections due to the electoral college.

[–] Dozzi92@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I feel like you could easily I clude numbers for citizen and non-citizen. I don't think non-citizen should affect the number of electorates. I do think it's an important consideration for that state's elected officials, because the people do exist.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Too fucking bad for the whiners because the Constitution straight up doesn't care. Probably because they'd have thought we were being weird fuckheads on border control.

All voting rights addressed by the Constitution are amendments prohibiting various forms of discrimination. You don't even technically have to be a citizen to vote per Constitutional law, that's just a restriction agreed upon by all state laws.

[–] dmention7@midwest.social 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Fundamentally, I'm not sure why being a citizen, or even legal status, should matter when it comes to voting. When you consider that a US citizen can move to a new state/local jurisdiction and immediately vote in those elections with just proof of residency in that jurisdiction, then it seems like the proof of residency is what's really important in determining whether you can vote in a given election.

[–] TootSweet@lemmy.world 71 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Ever notice how everything they accuse the Democrats of, they're either doing themselves already or about to start doing?

[–] aeternum@lemmy.blahaj.zone 24 points 1 day ago

every accusation is a confession.

[–] pigup@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] brygphilomena@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 23 hours ago

It's not a big deal, because the other side is doing it! It's just how things work!

They are legitimizing their actions ahead of time to minimize the impact when the public hears about it. I hate how performative and manipulative it is.

This administration has every single red flag of an abusive partner. Their entire play is gaslighting, beating us and telling us it's our fault. "We don't want to deploy paramilitary forces, but you've left me no choice with how you've been behaving, letting illegals gasp eat and be happy."

Someone wanted people to believe that Obama was watching a basketball game in the Oval Office on 9/11/2001.

Truth means nothing to them.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 69 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Why don't these idiots ever suffer any consequences for being so stupid and/or deceptive? Probably because most people are also kind of stupid and dishonest.

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Largely because they're being lied to by a media that doesn't cover it, or says the other guy is eating babies.

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Herd mentality is STRONG when the radio, tv, and all your neighbors are repeating the same talking points. I have family in rural maga country and visiting feels like walking into a radiated zone, it’s in the air everywhere

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 3 points 16 hours ago

My elderly parents historically have been middle of the road democrats. Hated Reagan, hated bush.

Today my dad said "the radical left takes things too far". My mother said, "I don't feel safe in new york city! they're targeting old white people!"

I don't know what sludge they're consuming but it's not factual.

[–] charonn0@startrek.website 96 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Also, the census doesn't only count citizens.

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 day ago

Beat me by like 30 seconds!

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It does only count people who live in the country (legally or not) or would it also include visitors who just happen to be here when they're doing the census?

[–] Echolynx@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It is based on residence, so visitors would not count.

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago

Really, in my country, it's whoever is at the residence on census night, visitor, or resident, citizen or not. So, you don't for wherever you happen to be.

[–] charonn0@startrek.website 8 points 1 day ago

Only people who live in the country.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

They're winning and taking us all down with them, but it's never enough for these assholes (assuming you take what he says at face value and that it's not just a distraction and/or deflection).

The 2020 census already favored red states. Texas, Florida, Montana(!) and North Carolina gained a combined 5 seats, while West Virginia lost 1. On the other side, Colorado and Oregon gained 1 seat each, while New York, California, and Illinois lost 1 seat each. So red states are +4 net, blue states are -1 net. The others are accounted for in the swing states: Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania lost 1 each for a combined -3 net.

[–] Balaquina@lemmy.ca 50 points 1 day ago

Wait until you hear who the president is.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah the US is a complete fucking joke.

[–] luciferofastora@feddit.org 1 points 7 hours ago

Where's the punchline?

[–] blitzen@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 day ago

You would think if the immigration hot bed of California were boosting the numbers, we wouldn’t have lost two seats in the 2020 sentences.

[–] mcavoya@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Ahem. That would be an "Ultra Maroon!" https://youtu.be/HuxJqIs2a-Y
