l come from a farmers family in Germany.
I've known it from some equipment we used back in the 80's or so :-)

Interesting, the super low crawling gear is called “granny gear” here in the states, so both fit!

A special gear for grannies??
That's some sick GTA shit.

I've seen some trucks in the US that had an L for low gear. I had a 3500 that had the normal manual shifter but also had another shifter at the base which would put you into Low mode for all those gears including R. It was VERY low, like the truck barely moved but it had all the torque you'd need to pull something.

I’ve always heard it as turtle gear, mostly since lots of farm equipment has a turtle and rabbit as slow/fast.

That actually is very interesting!
I wonder if it is just a coincidence or if there is some kind of connection between the two...

Despite it being a topic he would never have reason to discuss, something - I couldn't tell you what - about what you said reminded me of my eldest brother.

She'll go 300 hectares on a single tank of kerosene.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

The R stands for "rocket boost".

[–] Maybelline@lemmy.zip 19 points 1 day ago

Is this where "Granny gear" started?

[–] zxqwas@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Don't know but I'm pretty sure R is for racing.

It's the ground pin

I didnt know but that's the first Mickey7 post that i see that only checks the boomer vibes and not the gross or sexist ones, and i'm really impressed!

G-wagon, g-wagon, g-wagon, g-wagon!

Has quite probably the same root.
G-Wagon is short for "Geländewagen" which just means "offroad vehicle" in English.

[–] Glifted@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

This reminds me of the B gear in the Prius but it's certainly very different
