There are so many issues with this team. Coaching is number one. Qb isn’t even top 5

[–] WayneJarvis_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Eberlus keeps referring to the defense cupping the ball, and I can't tell if he's serious or just trying to screw with the media to write about the defense cupping balls.

[–] BurnsEMup29@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

“Justin sucks!” “No Bagent sucks!”

Me: The whole franchise is dogshit.

At least the Chargers allow their social media team to have fun

[–] lkn240@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I just can't with our fanbase. I don't know how you watch this game and fail to understand how important it is to get a top QB.

The Chargers aren't even a good team - but they have a very good QB and we don't - so we got our ass kicked.

Yes, it doesn't help that our coaches are terrible - but Staley isn't that much better. He's the dipshit who played a key WR in a meaningless game before the playoffs last year and got him injured.

If you put Herbert on the Bears and Fields/Bagent on the Chargers the Bears almost certainly win that game.

[–] tcodes27@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Literally the Bears play calling on offense (excluding, punts, drive before halftime and the final drive)

1st drive: Deep shot that works. Run, run, short pass attempt.

2nd drive: Three short passes. Three and out.

3rd drive: Short pass, short pass. Run, run. Short pass, short pass (intercepted).

4th drive: Short pass attempt, run, short pass (Moore big gain), run, run, run, deep shot (Jones drops TD), short pass, short pass, run, short pass, short pass, Mooney scramble, TD run.

5th drive: Run, short pass, short pass attempt. Punt.

6th drive: Run, short pass, short pass, RB run on 4th and 1.

7th drive: Short pass, run, short pass, run, short pass, run, short pass. Turnover on downs.

8th drive: Deep shot attempt, short pass, run, short pass, short pass, short pass, run, short pass, short pass. (Intercepted).

9th drive: Short pass, short pass, short pass, deep shot, short pass, short pass, run, run. TD.

In total: 33 short passes called, 21 run calls, four deep shots.

Remember they had several successful run plays that were negated with bad penalties. I hate to give excuses for this coaching staff, but with more yards to go you almost have to throw the ball more. Especially when you’re down by 3 scores so early in the game.

[–] Kysorer@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

In my opinion that’s even more of an indictment on the coaching staff, because the majority of their job is instilling fundamentals and ensuring the position coaches under them are meeting their expectations. It’s not a coincidence we have so many penalties, blown coverages and miscues every week. Top-Bottom the coaching staff is completely inept, they aren’t properly teaching good and sound foundational techniques and fundamental mindsets into these young players.

I think at times the coaches do get more hate than they deserve, but that doesn’t mean the coaches are vindicated from responsibility in this mess. I know many are quick to say “well, they are only as good as the players they have to work with” but I think that’s just an excuse for average coaches when they don’t elevate others. Great coaches still find a way to get the most out of the roster they lead, and at the very least the ensure their guys aren’t in a position to beat themselves. You might lose, but it won’t be because you dropped the ball. There’s been tons of games in which I feel like we just beat ourselves, and there is no effort by the staff to implement changes or hold those who are undisciplined accountable. Flus and Getsy have no fire, and no confidence to lead a group of grown men correctly.

[–] SkylesToPayTheByles@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Agreed.

I don't care about the playcalling complaints. That's a meaningless fan bitching that every team gets when they lose.

But the sloppy execution errors and constant penalties are a coaching issue.

[–] skinnypancake@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Can’t disagree with any of that. I still think the coaching staff needs to go. Just trying to justify the pass heavy play calling.

[–] shpatibot@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

QB isn’t the issue here. We need to stop the civil war at QB and address that things won’t change until we get the coaching staff right. Eberflus needs to go

[–] PurpleYogurtSlinger4@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That no call on intentional grounding was unreal. Pretty tired of no repercussions for these poorly called games

[–] AnselLovesNuts@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Just Reminiscing when Jay Cutler shredded the Chargers

[–] prUny@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’m 32 years old and I am fucking tired of watching the Chicago bears. Im fucking tired of this endless shit sandwich being forced down our throat year after year.

I’m tired of having quarterbacks like Rex and Jay and Mitch…

I’m tired of having a stupid fucking owner that flip flops because “oH GeEee! ThE OfFensive CoAch didnT work so nOw we HAVE tO hirE a DEFENSE GUY” every other fucking time.

I’m tired of empty promises. Dated schemes. And the IDIOTS they bring in to coach WORLD CLASS athletes into the ground.

I’m tired of watching fields GET IT for a second and then revert back to his old ways.

I’m tired of hearing cris collinswoth slobber all over the opposing quarterbacks dick every prime time game.

I’m tired of caring about this team- I’m tired of this imploding fanbase that had a CIVIL WAR over Tyson Bagent this week.

I wish my favorite sport wasn’t football and my favorite team wasn’t the bears.

God damn it. See you next week.

[–] PantPain77_77@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I’ve never seen a coach throw a challenge flag at roughly the same time HIS team was scoring a touchdown. The chuckles from the announcers were quietly gigantic

[–] d_mack87@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Didn't we literally challenge ourselves out of a touchdown with Fox?

[–] Nutaholic@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It was worse. We lost the ball too because it was a touch back fumble into the end zone. OH and it was against the packers ofc.

[–] Similar-Ostrich4142@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

All we shoulda did was draft Patrick mahomes….

[–] SpokenByMumbles@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Bagent should’ve had 3 TDs on his ledger tonight (Mooney on the first play, Kmet’s “forward progress being stopped”, and Old Man Velus doing Velus things.

[–] patchinthebox@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Trash coaching, trash officiating, trash defense. Wasn't a whole lot to be excited about in this one. 2 top five draft picks incoming.

[–] flipbmo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

We will fuck those up im sure

[–] Foxstarry@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I know there’s people here who hate Harbaugh as a coaching prospect, but his contract with Michigan got rescinded a few hours ago. Just putting it out there.

[–] annoyin_professional@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

His brand of coaching is desperately needed to give this team some direction and fire. Eberflus can talk til he’s blue in the face about HITS but every week this team and coaching staff look completely listless and lifeless. And he’s not Urban Meyer, he’s been here and won in the NFL before.

[–] TominatorXX@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Bears owners will never spend the money nor give him the control he wants. The Bears owners like to think they know how to run a football team. They don't like coaches with large personalities who actually know what they are doing.

[–] AgilePickle745@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Coaching staff needs to be wiped clean after this season. Not even a pro bowl team would have a winning record with these clowns in control

[–] chadwade123@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Bagent looks good enough to be a solid backup for us for the future.

Draft a QB this draft. Keep Fields and use him as an even more athletic Taysom Hill. Take a WR or DE with the other 1st. Super Bowl.

[–] id10t_you@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Zero chance Fields signs on for that role. Hell, it'd be a fireable offense to even make that ask.

[–] kimsuy41@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Eberflus reminds me of Jim Boylen from the Bulls

[–] d_mack87@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

If there's one positive that I can take from this game it's that the Packers post game thread kinda looked the same as ours today.

"Our QB sucks" "Fucking fire our coaching staff into the sun" "I'm gonna beat the shit out of my wife"

Ok, so maybe I threw that last one in just as a Packer's thing.

[–] flipbmo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

if a dog can be a major i dont see why a dog couldn’t coach the bears

[–] lingley@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It could have easily been 27-20 when we kicked the onside kick had we not gone for it on their 30 early in the second half and kicked 2 field goals when we had the chance.

[–] moonsgoon@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

F for those that watched this game lol

[–] ChiSp0@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Eastern time zone FTW. Only watched the first quarter and was tired enough to go to bed.

[–] twitchrdrm@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Continue to rebuild both lines and add blue chip talent wherever possible. Bring in a new coaching staff when this season ends. Get your qbotf in the 2025 draft.

[–] annoyin_professional@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Lol. One of the best QB classes in years, (hopefully) the last time for a long time that they’ll have a top 5 pick (and two of them) but yeah just wait and see who falls to you next year

[–] micah10193@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

In fairness, a lot of QB classes are labeled “best in years” and end up being not that good. The 2021 class was deemed one of those, and the only one who will probably get a second contract from his team is Trevor Lawrence.

Not saying 2024 won’t be good, but none of it is guaranteed. “Weak” QB classes have had multiple great QB’s before, and “great” QB classes have had a ton of busts.

[–] SkylesToPayTheByles@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Not guaranteed doesn't mean you aren't giving yourself worse odds

[–] Crooked_Sartre@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Both the top QBs are vast overpays. I'm trading down, taking MHJ and getting JJ McCarthy.

[–] TumTumMac24@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I don’t know how we as fans can watch teams effortlessly match up and down the field on us and then complain:

  1. The starting QB sucks

  2. The backup QB sucks

How about the defense doesn’t get stops consistent enough that we aren’t down 10-14 points early damn near every game.

Stats are from 2022.

Most games teams don’t score on their first drive, matter of fact NFL teams on average score on 37.9% of their drives. Of their drives they score touchdowns on 21.9%.

The Bears defense allowed scores on 41.8% of their defensive drives

The only team that was worse than us were the Falcons at 43.5

Our defense hurts us worse than our offense does, the expected points our defense created -169.13(1st)

Knockdowns 20(32)

Sacks 20(32)

Pressures 85(32)

Average starting field position 28.9

Average drive time 2:56 only two teams were worse(rams, falcons)

2.45 pts per drive highest in NFL

[–] LazyAssedAmbassador@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I don’t want to be good. I’m comfortable as a loser.

[–] SkylesToPayTheByles@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
  1. the first string QB sucks
  2. the rookie QB sucks
  3. the defense sucks

In the modern NFL, 1 is the biggest problem and most difficult to fix long-term

[–] SpazzticZeal@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The defence sucked. The end.

[–] lovewholesomestuff@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Most bears post game threads go for >1-2K comments. The sheer low volume here shows how much apathy has built up towards this team.

[–] BurgerBob1010@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s not fun anymore. I have to force myself to watch games. That said I’ll see you next week.

[–] itspabbs87@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I swore off watching Bears games until this staff is fired. They are clueless. This team isn't even competitive. I get the info I need here on Reddit until the time comes that I start watching again.

[–] OmegaJay54@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Defense sucks big time. Can’t even finish a fucking tackle and that’s literally basic football for them. It was unreal.

[–] Crooked_Sartre@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

First pass of the game should have been a TD. It was all downhill from there

[–] Kysorer@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

There is no fire from anyone at all. Nobody seems to give a damn outside of DJ, Mooney, Kmet and JJ. I get that there’s life outside of football, but man it would be nice to see a coach and team that plays with pride in themselves at the very least. They get embarrassed every other week and it never phases them. Everyone sits and takes it and sulks on the bench or chops it up like it’s a Sunday afternoon cookout. You’d think at some point Flus would grow some balls and start holding people accountable, considering his job is on the line, but even he seems like he doesn’t wanna be there anymore. It is an outright disgrace.

What pisses me off more than anything is how they sewed Butkus’ number onto their jerseys after he passed. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a great gesture and obviously like the idea of honoring him as much as possible, but as a coach I’d be outright livid that we play like that wearing 51 on our chests. Representing a guy who did so much for the team and was tougher than anybody, never gave up and always fought as hard as he could. It’s absolutely disgusting to watch these players/coaches mail it in over and over when things get hard. The staff are cowards and the players aren’t preparing enough to do the right things.

They don’t deserve to be wearing 51 if they’re gonna play like that, Butkus would never tolerate the bullshit that goes on at Halas if he were in his prime and on the team right now. He would make damn sure of that, I know for a fact.
