He's like the TE version of Trey Lance but he's actually good.

Jordan Mailiata never played American Football in any capacity before he started in the international program. He never even watched football. Some people are just good at stuff.

If Anthony Richardson had declared he was going to never play another snap of Quarterback in his life and was going to exclusively play Tight End, he would still get drafted.

Sometimes it’s just about a big guy who runs fast

Told to me by many coaches. "YOU CAN'T TEACH SIZE BOY" - from west Texas

[–] ralbright25@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

6'7" Athlete that can catch and ran a 4.5

[–] Kurupt_Introvert@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Miami Hurricanes were like TE university for a bit there, so just had good odds

Mo Alie-Cox

[–] DrGerbal@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Big athletic dude. I’m guessing he was a good blocker which is what a lot of te’s were used for in college. And most of those catches were td’s. He probably also impressed the saints gm. When they take a gamble and are right. They’re the smartest man alive. When they don’t they are the dumbest person alive and shouldn’t be allowed to consume the same air as us.

Mo Alie Cox went to a school that doesn't even have a football team.

Sometimes you just know. :)

To me, it's less about going pro... and more about being drafted in the 3rd with that little production. A guy like that can certainly go pro as a late rounder or UDFA, and then what happens happens... but to draft him in the 3rd without much history can be suspect.

I really didn't pay that close of attention to that draft cycle, so I have no idea if he was really projected to go that high.

Holy shit, that's an awesome stat

[–] Dangerpaladin@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If Lebron James had told an NFL team he wanted to play they would find a spot for him on the roster. You can't teach physical gifts but you can teach route trees.

[–] DavidOrWalter@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Tom Brady had 0 catches in college and he turned out well. Happens all the time!

[–] dogo7@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Keep this in mind from the 2005 NFL Draft's QB class:

  • Player A: 17,072 yards, 117 TDs
  • Player B: 192 yards, 0 TDs, 33 passes thrown

Which of these players do you think got drafted and which do you think went undrafted? That's right, Player B was the drafted one. That player was Matt Cassel. The one who went undrafted? Timmy Chang, who never played in the NFL.

I’m sorry, I don’t know anyone by that name. I do know a tight end named “BasketballplayerJimmy Graham”, though.

[–] michaelb421@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Athletic freak. he was 6’7” and ran in the 4.5s. Had a very nice combine. Made him worth the risk. If it wasn’t for the trade to Seattle his stats would be even better

[–] downtimeredditor@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Antonio gates went pro with 0 receptions

[–] maltzy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

A QB got drafted once who never actually started a college game.

[–] Rymasq@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

you don’t need to actually understand football to play certain positions. Just need to memorize routes and be athletic and have decent game feel

[–] OldBrokeGrouch@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Antonio Gates didn’t even play college football and got drafted.

[–] No-i-deer@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because tight ends are supposed to block. Why would you ever want a tight end to run routes? Your run game would completely suck.

[–] PmOmena@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Athletic Freak basically

[–] DrCoxsEgo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The OP knows nothing about football, college football, the NFL or sports.

Dwight Clark only caught four passes in one game in college. But Bill Walsh still saw something and called him, he was lucky cause Clark was walking out the door to play golf. Clark and Walsh met and watched the film of Clark's catches and talked about them.

[–] Immediate-Flower-694@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

People forget he went to harvard

[–] B1LLSMAFIA@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Dawson Knox scored 0 touchdowns in college 🤯

[–] acutemisadventure@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I don't know why I read this as Jimmy garoppolo.

[–] ForsakenJump1235@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because it aint all about the stats, the best scouts dont need stats to spot potential

[–] stenzycake@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He played basketball

[–] Seanhawkeye@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’m sure someone has already said it, but Antonio Gates.

[–] Legndarystig@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
