Does anyone have stats on Fields' short-game accuracy from last year to this year? I don't think last night was a great showing for him, but I think last year he would have missed at least a third of those screen throws whereas this year he looks more consistent.

Justin fields is the most mediocre, hyper athletic qb I’ve ever seen. He always manages to disappoint and give people reasons to doubt. How on earth do you fumble the ball this many times into a 3 year career?

How would you guys rebuild the team? does everyone agree that we need a rebuild?

[–] LookAtCarlMan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Caleb at 1 and MHJ at 3 would have been the dream, but that took a hit last night. So it’s probably Caleb at 1 and OL wherever our second pick lands now.

New coaching staff and sign even some halfway decent FAs and that’s pretty much it. Rest of the team is honestly fine to compete. Coaching and QB are the most important parts of this game and we have both wrong right now - look at the Texans turning it around in one year after getting both right.

[–] lkn240@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

While it's unlikely that whoever we draft is as good as Stroud is right away - we also have a much better potential situation talent wise for a rookie QB to step into compared to Houston.

DJ Moore is an absolute stud - putting up 1000 yards already this year while being thrown to by Fields and Bagent is fucking impressive.

Fields...

The Good

Setting up the game winning FG with a strike to DJ

The 4th and 10 to Kmet

The Bad

Fumble #1

Standing and staring in one of the best pockets you'll see in the NFL and missing wide open guys. Two plays in a row. They're very lucky neither got hit for intentional grounding.

The Ugly

Fumble #2. Woof

[–] AlaskanBullWormX@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

And the pass to Moore wasn't even anything special, dude was wide ass open, every QB in the league should make that throw 9.5/10 times. His bad plays that most QBs don't make greatly outweigh the good plays that not many QBs can make.

[–] unnoticed77@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

That's the dumbest rationale.

Please please please, Front Office, don’t be fooled into bringing Flus back.

[–] BlockStunna@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This game changed nothing about my opinion on Fields. He's still inaccurate on throws, doesn't show good awareness in the pocket, and doesn't seem to be able to go through his progressions to find the open man. He doesn't "throw guys open" or hit the back shoulder of his WRs.

I'm looking for things that can't be blamed on getsy when evaluating him. A lot of his issues are simply that he's not great at throwing the ball.

I do give him some credit for winning the game in the end though, but not much.

[–] GeicoFrogGaveMeHerp@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Does anyone else not want another QB and just want the bears to hire a competent OC and draft MH JR and Olu? I don’t want Williams

[–] Perfect_Bird_5399@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I'd honestly be OK with keeping Flus as long as Getsy goes....

Happy for the W, happy for the defense.

Getsy and Fields just made the case for getting rid of both easier last night. This truly sucks. I'd rather Fields is the guy and we don't need to go back out into the QB jungle it's clearly not where it has to be right to comfortably call him the future of the club.

[–] Zealousideal_Bass199@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Decent ol, decent wrs, decent rbs and decent defense. No matter what the sub says, if we can get a new coach, this is the best spot for a no 1 overall qb in years. Of course we are not exceptionally talented, but I have seen flashes from the defense that makes me very confident for next year. With 2 frps and quite a lot of cap space, a top qb prospect can hit the ground running

Exactly! I dont mind going Qb and WR with our 1st rounders. Get that QB a solid 2 next to DJ & get started the right way

Having 2 good to great WR´s for the 1st couple of years of a rookie´s career would be wonderful

[–] areyoume29@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

This defense is starting to remind me of the 2004 team. That team had a ton of talent it was just a matter of putting it all together and finding an offense that could compliment it.

Amazing game by the defense turnovers sacks hard legal hits most of the yards given up were gifted by the refs. Dominant performance reminiscent of days of yore

[–] Soldier-Fields@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I am so hungover

[–] Knafstuds@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Bad game all around for the offense. Lucky to get away with this win

[–] sobes20@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (5 children)

I posted this in another thread.

Here’s the rub about the offensive play calling.

Yes, 21 passes at or near the line of scrimmage is incredibly frustrating and boring. But, fans are choosing to ignore the 5-10 plays where Fields looked downfield and either nothing was there or someone was open, but he didn’t throw (I don’t know which from the TV copy).

There were plenty of plays that just didn’t go anywhere. I would assume those were intended to be down field throws and it didn’t happen for whatever reason.

Would you rather have screen passes for 2-5 yards, or several 3 and outs?

Everyone wants to blame Getsy, and maybe he deserves it, I don’t know. But not enough people consider that maybe Getsy has his hands tied and these are the only plays he can call that have a decent chance to gain positive yards.

This is your weekly reminder VJJ is still on the roster.

DJ Moore already has 1000 yards. He's quietly top 5 in receiving yards.

I can’t believe I feel worse about a win than last weeks loss.

[–] halfcastdota@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

is eberflus fired yet ?

[–] Cmonmaaan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

We gotta be the only team that refuses to run a slant route or shallow crossers against a blitz

What’s the point of all these behind the scrimmage plays as if we’re a playoff contender keeping it safe with a backup qb

[–] TheShtuff@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Well we have the backup QB part.

[–] mimickin_birds@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Getsy probably doesn’t trust Fields to read where to throw so he calls screens which don’t require reading the defense

While Fields' play in the first 58 minutes of the game didn't move the needle either way for me, I'm elated we finally got to see a clutch throw from the pocket.

[–] Ssquad@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Didn’t watch but I’ll never complain about a win! Go Bears!!

[–] Fair-Border-9944@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Sign Kirk. Keep JF1 in a Taysom Hill Role. Resign Jaylon and Yannick. Draft MHJR, Olu, more Dline and Dbs. Give whatever cap space we have left to Jason Kelce. Profit

[–] PugParty69@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I genuinely think Bears will run it back with Flus and a new OC

Anyone else find it remarkable how absolutely garbage the NFC looks? Any team not making the playoffs can be labelled terrible. And only the Vikings have a valid excuse with Kirk being out

Hell, even the 2 lowest wildcard seeds will be teams that are flawed as hell & teams I wouldnt be confident in to beat the most teams below them.

NFC is terrible. We have a young defence that is trending up, decent cap space and great draft capital. There is no way we shouldnt be relevant next season, regardless of who is at QB

[–] monkeymatt1836@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The NFC is so bad if we didn’t blow the Broncos and Lions games we would be the 7th seed right now

  1. Winning is good...Bear Down!

  2. I would rather be the Bears today than the Vikings

  3. Fields is not the guy... 200 yards, zero TDs, 3 sacks and 2 fumbles...this is not quality, especially when the D spots you 4 extra possessions.

  4. The D is coming together. Pressure, sacks, INT, run stopping.

  5. Penalties...70 yards, is just a potential game killer.

  6. The Bears have a lot of pieces, and some units are starting to work well together, but I don't think they have the leaders to pull it together, especially on offense. Something isn't working with Fields and Getsy, but both seem unable to adjust to put together anything resembling a competent NFL offense. Flus seems unable to solve this problem, so he needs to go also.

[–] No_Egg4135Chi@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Honestly I think running it back without Getsy wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. Flus got the D looking great the last few weeks

[–] chalexozzy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

You have to admit with Fields the kid was running for his life back there. Yeah he fumbled, yeah he didn’t make some crucial passes. But Jesus, he just saw purple every single play.

Luke Getsy used Light Screen!

[–] DaBeegDeek@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

-Poles knows talent. I commend him on recognizing players in the draft and being willing to pull the trigger. Dexter looks like he's going to be really, really good. Pickens is going to be a solid rotational player for a long time. Terrell Smith has been outstanding. Wright is a stud. Roschon is a bruising back who's getting closer to breaking one. Overall I'm impressed.

-Fields has it rough back there, he really does. He had two bad misses, the high ball to Mooney and the out route to Moore, but QB's miss throws every game... even Elite ones. Overall he played very well, just HOLD ONTO THE FUCKING BALL!

-Getsy has to go. I understand why the screen game was implemented, but c'mon man.

[–] rosh200@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Maybe ive become numb to it, but I felt that was one of the easier bears games to watch this season

How they never faked the wide receiver screen with a leaking TE or WR… you basically set it up ALLL GAME

Good breakdown as always by Baldy. Vikings D is just tough under Flores.
