I had to temporarily move out. It took a few trips to move all my belongings.

No electric, so rather slow speed, but thankfully very little traffic here.

2 trailers connected to the bike. The front trailer has a stack of bicycles on it, and the rear trailer has green crates on top of which sits a cat. Another cat walks towards the camera

Proposals for new or expanded bike lanes are often met with fierce backlash, in a phenomenon dubbed “bikelash,” with car drivers reluctant to lose any street space.

Yet our study finds that the current imbalance of spatial allocation is so overwhelmingly in favour of cars that it’s possible to make substantial improvements to bike infrastructure without significantly decreasing the space allocated per driver.

After all, a key advantage of bicycles is their incredible space-efficiency. Even if all the bike infrastructure space in the city were to double, the proportion of roadway given to cars would not fall below 90 per cent in any borough.

It's starting to get dark when I'm heading home, and I'm thinking that I'd like to be more visible. I have a headlight and tail light on my bike, but I'd like one that's a little higher up as well.

I'm finding a lot of headlamps that work with a GoPro mount, but my helmet does not have one of those. It also doesn't have an easy spot to stick an adhesive GoPro mount to, but I found this video where a guy uses a silicone adhesive to stick one on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLpKEc-_AQs. I'm wondering if I should try that, or just buy a new helmet with a built-in GoPro mount.

Does anyone here have a helmet headlight that you like? And, how is it attached?

ID on frame (infosec.pub)

Hi! I have this beautiful old frame (the white one) that I want to rebuild to a city/pub bike, but will need to research a few things first (tire clearance, bottom bracket etc.) I'd need the brand for that, but can't find anything. Anyone got any ideas?

EDIT: I think I've found it! My guess it's this Diamond from 1991. Now to find the specs somewhere!

It's pouring rain at the moment. I got a ride in early and beat it by about 30 minutes. Putting the lights on the bike was the right way to go.

Context: I'm in Canada, and have ordered from Bike24 without any issues in the past.

Several weeks ago I ordered a single tire (which I've ordered before), Schwalbe winter tire studs, and a floor pump.

It was held for two weeks for inspection in Germany, and today I learned that "The shipment cannot be exported to the destination country/region and is returned to the sender."

I've contacted Bike24, but I'm preparing for a refund nightmare. More importantly, I need the stuff on that order... what could possibly be the reason they can't ship here? They list items that don't ship to Canada, but these items aren't on that list.

Has anyone else experienced this recently? What was the outcome?

Update: Seller says it might have been the pump, which likely included 2 x AAA batteries 😒 I've gotten stuff from China with 21700 lithium-ion cells without issues. And AAA alkaline is a challenge to get out of Germany? 🤷‍♂️

A bit like Forrest Gump, I'm now on a 30-year trip to cycle to every Commonwealth War Grave cemetery in the world," he said.

Sportchek Fuck You🖕 aggggghhhhdjdjfjnf

I bought 29" tubes maybe about 2-3 months ago as my rear tire blewout on a nail back then. After replacing both I thought both felt kinda flimsy but thought eh maybe this is how it always was/maybe this is fine.
OH HELL NAW!~ smh.

I should've figured better. And before anyone asks:

  • yes I made sure the rims were free of debris and any rough edges.
  • no; there was no glass or nails that punctured the tires.
  • yes it was filled to the recommended 35 PSI.

Anyways I def learned my lesson on buying cheap ass fucking tubes and also forgetting my allen key set. If I go half assed and buy cheap shit again well that's on me and I probably have dementia at that point.

I'm still seething by how much time I spent having to trek back.

Swapping brakes and levers

@bicycles

I have a randonneur bike from the 1980ies which still has many of the original parts. As far as i can tell it still has the original calipers and brake levers (shimano 600 ex or something similar, with cel 60 levers that go perpendicular in front of the handlebar; the caliper just says dia compe, it might be a dia compe gran compe 400). The brake shoes have been changed of course, but still the brakes are not very good. Trying to adjust the bowden cables didn't change much.

I'd like to take the bike for a tour across the alps, and am trying to figure out how to improve the brakes for it to feel safe. Does it make sense to change them completely, or should they still do their job well if set up correctly? If they should be changed, what do I need to consider when changing them? Since they are screwed onto the handlebar, would any modern break lever fit? What kind of brake should I get for a good improvement in brake strength if I don't want to go for disc brakes?

I saw this bike made by an independent bike shop for himself.

It's an electric longtail and can carry a 300kg europallet, plus the toolbox on the front, plus an extra person or material on the bike rack!

Here is the link to the shop website: https://www.cycles-penet.fr/

This is an Ultegra 11s chain after 1000km of wear from a 1500W mid-drive. Used to ride a Tangent back in 2016. T'was shredding till it went *clunk*.

Replaced all-black Gravel Kings with tan-sidewalled Paselas. Got tired of flats in the rear.

Found some super cheap fulcrum rapid red 900 wheels at 27.5" size, so decided to do the disc brake conversion. Add some mechanical Tektro brakes from parts bin, Kenda tires at 50mm width and sick looking yellow bar tape from local bike store, 12->10mm axle conversion and we have some absolute beauty here supported by Mezpils lager from Latvia

I have some shifting problems to solve, also the disc brake conversion kit from bezos doesn't really work all that well but those are all probably solvable issues. Might start into looking to weld a disc brake tabs to the frame :s

Good morning community. This is my first post here.

So this is my bicycle, from year about 2004 or something down there. I would like to make some improvement but it might be too pricey. I would like to put a more modern transmission: now it has a triple chainset 22, 32, 42 - as it was common back then - and a 8-speed rear cogset 11-30. I'd fancy a more recent thing and also a rear disk brake. So it means I should change the whole transmission, put a shorter freehub suitable for the disc, put the right spokes and so on. It's not urgent, but I'm thinking about it and I'm afraid of the cost of all these things.

Apart from that I'm having a really good time and I'm fond of this bicycle.

Sorry for my roughly translated technical words

I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but does anyone else think something is odd?
