You're not wrong. That is one type of correct.

Nice one! And yeah, my brain is definitely in five-letter mode for these types of games, haha.

Having a game out there on any platform is super cool. I love the art style, too!

First time I'm hearing about this; looks great!

Pretty new for me too, I just found it last week. I think this game is my favorite Wordle-like game. It's so much harder to think of a real word that fits the given letters when it's a six letter word, and I like that the option is there to not use a real word. Sometimes I'll just leave the game for an hour or so while I try to think of something that could fit.

https://lex.games/six/

I messed up on this one -- there was a known letter that I forgot to use on the next guess. Still not bad.

I solved Six Appeal #462 in 3 minutes, 44 seconds.

Real words guessed: 3 × 100 = 300
Remaining guesses: 4 × 200 = 800
Time bonus: 76

Total score: 1176

OK I ended up also getting X-Men Hellfire Vigil #1 while I was there. It's in the same story as the others I'm reading right now.

Just two this week:

  • X-Men #19
  • X-Men By Chris Claremont Prelude To A Future Past #1

also, I stopped by yesterday to pick up the Injustice Year One Collection.

I just found https://lex.games/six (made by @lexfri@hachyderm.io) a few days ago. It's a good one! Sometimes it's very difficult to find a real word that fits the available squares, so for some of them in previous days I just left it alone for a couple of hours to let a word come to me. Today's was unusually fast, my previous days were like an hour or three, haha.

I solved Six Appeal #461 in 1 minute, 20 seconds.

Real words guessed: 3 × 100 = 300
Remaining guesses: 4 × 200 = 800
Time bonus: 220

Total score: 1320

I didn't have the patience for RPGs like that when they were originally out (and I was a little kid), but I've also been enjoying them on my Anbernic device. For me it's been Phantasy Star IV.

Total War: Shogun 2. No idea why I decided to reinstall it out of the blue; just wanted to pick it up again after not playing for a long-ass time. I played it a bit when it first came out, but just didn't really get into it. I'm seeing if it's playable on the couch with a Steam controller now. Verdict so far: maaaaybe.

Yeah, I think XFCE is my new favorite desktop environment, regardless of which distribution I use in the future.

Unfortunately, I don't have great insight on those two, since I keep my laptop setup pretty simple.

I don't really mess with the init system very much, so I can't really weigh in on that. I've probably only run "sudo service start " a few times, so aside from the CLI being a little different from systemd, I haven't noticed a difference. There would probably be another learning curve if you're looking to actually create system services, but I never end up doing that on my laptop.

I haven't had any issues with the packages, but that's probably because I use the Flatpak if it's available. So yes, the debian repo wouldn't be current, but all of the daily things I use (browser, Thunderbird, Steam, text editor) get updates from the Flathub repo. The built-in MX package manager has a section for Flathub, so you don't have to add anything for that.

I just started reading comics a few months ago, so I'm fairly new to this.

I enjoyed the Injustice video games, and I've heard the comics were great, so I figure I should read them. The comic book store near me has the individual volumes for Year 1, Year 2, and Year 3. But they also have the Injustice Compendium, which has everything in one book. And the compendium is absolutely gigantic: literally like a phonebook. It just seems like it would be unpleasant to read, impossible to carry around, and most of the pages would have a severe curve when they're open from the inflexible spine.

Have you bought one of these before? Did you prefer it over having individual volumes?

I'm talking about https://store.steampowered.com/sub/886313

I've played, but not beaten, MGS 1 and 2 on their original consoles. Never played Snake Eater. I remember the Master Collection getting some criticism when it first came out, but it seems like the reviews are positive now. I'm assuming you all are the experts here: is the master collection a good way of playing them? Even if it's not the "definitive" way of playing them?

I've been listening to this one lately since Justice has a new album out now. I think Audio, Video, Disco is my favorite of theirs.

I was just looking something up on caddyserver.com, which is not a retro website by any means. But, when I got to the very bottom of the page, I saw some classic browser buttons that I haven't seen in a very long time. And a hit counter, too! It made me smile.

I've just bought a backpack from Frost River, the "Arrowhead Trail Eco." I know that you can't assume that something is BIFL until you've owned it for a while, but waxed canvas definitely fits that long-lasting category, and this one certainly feels solid at first glance.

This is the first waxed canvas backpack I've bought. I've owned a few backpacks in recent years, trying to find the perfect everyday + work + gym backpack, but I'm new to waxed canvas. So I'm wondering if anyone has anything that I should pay attention to as I use it for the next couple months and develop an opinion about it.

The product page for it is here: https://frostriver.com/products/arrowhead-trail-rolltop-eco

I can post pictures tomorrow if anyone wants them. I've just picked up the package and it's the middle of the night right now, so I can't even really see what it looks like yet, haha. I usually find "first impressions" reviews to not be very useful (especially for products that you intend to own for more than a decade), but there were surprisingly few reviews for this brand available, so I might just do that anyway.

I use Funkwhale for my music collection and had my podcasts in there for a while. However, I ended up not listening to my podcasts very much since they were hidden among my much larger music collection.

So I moved my podcasts feeds to FreshRSS, which I was already using for RSS feeds. I like the simplicity of using something that I already had, but it doesn't have any podcast-specific features like being able to resume where you left off.

Do you have any podcast listening apps that you like?

*edit: I should add that I originally meant "self-hostable applications for storing your podcast subscriptions," but these phone app recommendations are great to have, too. I might just ditch the server-side of this entirely and just use a separate app on my devices for listening. It would be nice if I only had to subscribe in one place and be able to pick up where I left off across multiple devices, though.

A very unexpected cover of a very 2010s song. This version has been stuck in my head since I first heard it.
