Comic Books

A place to discuss comic books of all types, from old to new, Big 2 to indie, and everything in between.

Floppies, graphic novels, compilations, omnibusses (omnibusi?) are all fair game.

There is only one rule:*

Comic Books is a no judgement zone.

You can talk all you want about how Rob Liefeld is trash, Bob Kane is an asshole, or Frank Miller and Dave Sim’s politics have made them toxic, that’s all good.

If, however, another user is LEGITIMATELY a fan of something you don’t like, that does NOT make them a lesser person. Attack the art for being bad, not the person for being a fan of bad art.

* I lied. There are TWO rules... No piracy. Cover shots? That's good. Interior pages, in moderation? Sure. Full books? Links to pirate sites? That's how we get things shut down. :(

I'm not saying it's been a problem, because it hasn't been.

After visiting the shop today, a couple of additions:

Doctor Werthless - A graphic novel biography of Doctor Frederic Wertham, author of the 1950s pop-psychology book "Seduction of the Innocent" which attempted to destroy the comics art form as we know it.

I've been reading it a little today, and while I'm sure the creators are biased against the doctor, the facts are somewhat damning.

Charlamagne tha God's ILLuminati - Pencilled by comics legend Denys Cowan and inked by equal legend Bill Sienkiewicz, TBH, I haven't read past Cowan and Sienkiewicz involvement, that was enough for me. :)

OK I ended up also getting X-Men Hellfire Vigil #1 while I was there. It's in the same story as the others I'm reading right now.

Last week was a little ovewhelming for me, let's see what this week holds:

Absolute Green Lantern #4

Adventureman Family Tree #3 - Terry and Rachel Dodson get TWO books this week, and they are an absolute delight every time. This one closes out the latest Adventureman arc, hope we won't have to wait long for the next.

Birds Of Prey #23

Gotham City Sirens Unfit For Orbit #1 - Terry and Rachel Dodson are back with a new sirens story! The last one was a hoot!

JSA #9

Resurrection Man Quantum Karma #4

Sisterhood A Hyde Street Story #1 - It's no secret I love the Ghost Machine titles, and this is interesting... Hyde Street is a main title that already had one spin-off called "Devour", now it gets a second, and this one runs 5 issues. From Hyde Street #5.

Strikeforce Morituri Omnibus HC - Another $125 hardcover that needs some explaining. From 1986 to 1989 Peter B. Gillis and Brent Anderson brought a future where aliens have invaded and humans developed a process to combat them. The process involves giving people super-powers, but the powers cause them to burn out and die over time. The catch? Nobody knows how much time they have, but then again, who does? Collects all 31 issues of the original and the 5 issue sequel "Electric Undertow". 1080 pages. Hey! That's only $0.115 per page!

Warm Fusion #3 - It's been a minute since there's been anything new from DSTLRY, but looking at their product page, it's all part of the plan!

X-Men #19

X-Men By Chris Claremont Prelude To A Future Past #1

X-Men Hellfire Vigil #1 - During the Krakoa era, the big annual event was the Hellfire Gala. The last one, disrupted by Orchis, resulted in another mutant extinction event. This year, the gala is replaced by a candlelight vigil, memorializing the lost.
