Back in the 2000s you would commonly see people driving coupes as their sole car and daily driver. There were gobs of fwd coupes like The Civic, Accord, Grand Am, Cobalt, G6, on and on. Nowadays this market has entirely disappeared.

My question is what caused this shift in buyer preference? Why were people willing to tolerate a coupe 15 years ago and not today? The coupes were only marginally different in price to the sedan version so I don't see it as financially driven.

The car has 7,430 miles on it and is a US-spec model. It is being sold at a federal auction for the US Federal Court Central District of California on August 12, 2025, in Santa Barbara, CA. The opening bid is $2,555,000.00 USD, and the buy-it-now valuation is $5,000,000.00 USD. Interested bidders can contact the court-appointed broker, Icon Servicing. The website also includes a photo gallery and a video of the car.

"Small" in quotes because just because something sounds simple in theory doesn't mean it is in practice.

First car that comes to mind for me is the R129 Mercedes SL500/600. If that car was available with a manual, it'd be worth at least double what it is now—goes for a lot of performance Mercedes, actually.

With Chevy making it a bid deal that they did the laps with engineers, and not pro drivers, it leaves open a reason to go back to the track and do another attempt.

Jim Farley, CEO of Ford did state that Ford would be be returning to the Nurburgring with an Instagram comment on Chevys announcement post of the lap times.

"Congrats to the @Corvette team. Game on!"

My guess is that Ford and Chevy are kind of trying to extend this, Ford will go back, and make another attempt, possibly beating the ZR1/ZR1X lap time, generating a ton of news for both brands.

And then Corvette will have to respond by taking an actual pro driver to the Ring during a nicer day and potentially get a much better time then they originally got.

Again generating a lot of hype and news for both Ford and Chevy.

Maybe it wasn't entirely planned, but i wouldnt expect a little battle between Ford and Chevy for quite a while with both going back and fourth.

Alongside the ZR1/ZR1X laps, GM also did an official lap of the Z06, 7:11.826 on the 20,832m lap, Cup 2R with the Carbon wheels, driven by Chevrolet's Global Vehicle Performance Manager: Aero Link. Something something nominative determinism

Similar cars incl. GT4RS which did a 7:09.3, and the 992.1 GT3 which did a 6:59.9, both of those on the same tyre. Still a solid lap, not perfect but I don't quite see the sub-7 misha says it could do though I am sure he knows far better than I do and I'd be happy to be proven wrong

Can't help but feel a tiny bit disappointed there, you can see the issues with gearing on the main straight as well, the GT3 is like ~15mph quicker before the last hill.

Sounds incredible though. Data recorder looks good too

found the video very insightful

he believes the zr1 could save about 10 seconds with a pro driver (so 6:40ish)

more interestingly he compares it to a gt2rs & gt3rs, pointing out places where apex speeds are lower and the zr1s power makes up for it

Was super interested in watching this video since they have been teasing it over the last week on their instagram page.

Savagegeese always does such a great job with all of their videos, excited to see what everyone else thinks as these are probably some of the best performance ICE cars we will ever see.

Thinking about people who sold or gave away cars and then came across them later down the road. I spent years looking for my dad's Porsche but when I found it, it was beyond saving.

I've put about 40k miles on my 300 cell G-sport cat and it's really smelling like it's not doing much anymore. Anyone having different results?

I've got it mounted in the stock location running a safe tune and pump gas. No burbles/pops or anything I'd expect to kill it early. Not posting to make a dig at the manufacturer, just curious.
