Mitsubishi today unveiled the all-new Destinator midsize SUV in Indonesia. The new model will also be introduced in other ASEAN markets, including Vietnam and the Philippines, as well as in South Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. It is NOT coming to North America.

Whip out your crystal ball folks. What do you think will be looked back on with nothing but fondness or is criminally undervalued right now.

Any budget is okay though no obvious ones. Like the holy trinity of T.50. People know their icons and classics already.

Personal guess is single clutch automated manuals will be seen as “analogue” and “raw” in a decade.

Picture this: your next insurance bill isn’t just based on your age or where you live, it is shaped by how, when, and how far you drive, tracked in real time by an app on your phone. For years, Ontario drivers have been enticed by usage-based insurance (UBI) programs that promised discounts for safe driving, with the reassurance that their premiums could never go up. That safety net is gone. In a regulatory shift, Ontario’s Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) now allows insurers to use telematics data not just to reward, but also to penalize, drivers. The result? Your driving habits could now save – or cost – you more than ever before.

I used to live in the US and every once in a while I browse Craig's List to see some of the cars for sale over there as they tend to be more interesting than over here. I was not expecting to see a literal dream car for sale though:

Here it is

Last winter I got injured after a woman failed to see me in a crosswalk and hit me with her SUV. Luckily I have no long lasting injures and was awarded a nice settlement. I knew I wanted a sports car and I'm a Porsche fanatic, so I was shopping for the first generation Porsche Cayman. I then began looking into the 2nd gen BRZ when I realized just how old the 987 Caymans are. This was going to be my only car. I started having second thoughts and began focusing on the 2nd gen BRZ. They are virtually the same size and weight as a 987 and in the real world, the Porsche isn’t all that much faster than the BRZ either. The BRZ is a lot newer, safer, cheaper to insure, cheaper to maintain, has more cargo capacity, and I won’t have to install an aftermarket head unit for Android Auto. I do all of my own work, so having something easier to work on than a mid engine Cayman is a big plus too. I found a 2022 BRZ in World Rally Blue with only 24,000 miles. No accidents. It had 2 owners although the 2nd owner only had it for 9 months and drove it less than 2,000 miles. I bought it in April and it just ticked over to 28,000 miles last night.

I’m absolutely in love with it. I love the way it looks. It has nice curves and wide hips. It has a digital gauge cluster with a decent amount of information to display. It has big, simple, easy to use controls for the HVAC. It’s automatic with dual zones too, which is nice. I prefer the Subaru front bumper over the GR 86 and I like not having the ducktail spoiler too. I have the base model with the 17 inch wheels. They have some mild, repairable curb rash, but I’m buying aftermarket wheels and using the stock set for winter tires.

The engine likes to rev. Redline is just about 7500 RPM and it pulls strong all the way to the top. The stock intake is very quiet unless you’re wide open throttle and over 4K RPM and the exhaust is pretty quiet too. None of the aftermarket intakes beat the stock intake in performance. Most reduce power, but all of them are a lot louder. I don’t think I’ll change it, but I do plan on getting a slightly louder muffler. Nothing obnoxious, but I just want to hear it a little more. I like the way it sounds. It doesn’t sound special. It just sounds like every other 4 cylinder engine, but it doesn’t sound bad either. The shifter is nice. Smooth and direct. No complaints with the shifter, but the actual transmission itself can be a little temperamental shifting into 2nd and 3rd. Really only at slower speeds. You just have to rev higher. The transmission really would prefer if you shift over 4,000 RPM. The higher the better.

This car has minimal sound insulation. You hear every little bit of mechanical sounds the engine and transmission make. You will think the car is broken from all the sounds it makes, but you’ll get used to it. The high pressure fuel pump and direct injectors are the loudest I’ve heard in any car, even common rail diesels. The clutch and transmission itself are very chattery too. I’ve learned to stop worrying and enjoy the mechanical sounds, even though it sometimes sounds like you’ve blown something up.

The best thing about this car is how it drives. It is playful and wants you to push your limits. This is the perfect first RWD sports car to learn vehicle dynamics. It is set up to slide progressively and will never catch you off guard. It will always understeer if you push the car too hard. You have to invoke oversteer and it will never be unpredictable. This car will teach and encourage you to become a better driver. It will reward you for doing well but won’t punish you for doing something wrong.

All of that being said, here’s what I don’t like about the car.

The clutch pedal is this car’s biggest weakness. It engages too high and the assist spring makes you feel like you’re a beginner. I have adjusted my pedal so the clutch bites closer to the middle of travel and I installed an aftermarket assist spring. It helped a lot, but the clutch pedal in my ancient Elantra felt better than the one in my BRZ. Like many modern manual transmissions, there is a lot of rev hang. It takes some getting used to so your 1st to 2nd gear shifts can be smooth. The throttle response could be a bit quicker as well. I recently saw in a Throttle House video that the 2026 GR86 Hakone Edition reportedly improved this.

The Infotainment system can be buggy, especially Android Auto. It sometimes takes multiple unplug and replug attempts to get Android Auto to load. When it does, it usually runs fine and it has never dropped out, but establishing that initial connection is a bad experience. It’s not my USB cable or the ports or my phone. And the system has been updated to the latest firmware. It’s better than it was before the update, but not much. To be honest, the sound system as a whole just plain sucks. The speakers are awful and I plan on replacing them soon. A speaker upgrade and subwoofer install are going to be my first mods to the car.

I know this is a low cost lightweight sports car and compromises needed to be made, but the interior build quality just sucks. The door panels in particular. They’s so flimsy and squeaky and the speakers rattle the plastic. I’ve knocked the driver side air vent and dashboard end cap off multiple times already from rather light taps with my knee when getting out of the car. I feel like the previous owners have done the same because that part of the dash has always been super squeaky.

I feel like the engine should have a bit more low end torque. Its engine really is happiest at 3K RPM and above, but it will cruise at 2K with no complaints on flat ground. But if you need to accelerate even a little bit or just maintain speed up hill, it will let you know that it doesn’t like that and you’ll have to drop down a gear. The car is rated for 20 MPG city, and I consistently get that during my daily commute, but I feel like if it had more low end torque, you can get better fuel mileage. But I didn’t buy this car to save gas. I bought it to have fun. I’m always revving it to redline and loving every minute of it.

Some other little nitpicks are that this car doesn’t have an oil pressure gauge, but it does have an oil temperature gauge. This car doesn’t have automatic door locks! I couldn’t believe it. No, it’s not a setting that isn’t enabled. It literally doesn’t have the feature. It also doesn’t have rain sensing wipers. Such a weird thing not to have. The seats should also be more adjustable and have lumbar support too. And the steering wheel doesn’t telescope very far. The trunk opening is tiny but the car has a lot of cargo capacity. The back seats are useless for transporting people, but they hold a ton of stuff. With the seats folded down, you can fit a full set of wheels inside the car. They also got rid of the spare tire. The previous generation had one and there’s still space in the car for it and a jack and tools. You can just get any 17 inch Subaru space saver and it will fit. I plan on doing that too. I never owned a car without a spare. I feel so vulnerable without one lol. I drive a lot. I usually get a flat tire once, sometimes twice a year.

All in all, this is a fantastic car. It’s by far the best car I’ve ever owned. I would definitely recommend buying one if you’re looking for an inexpensive well handling sports car.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but BMW showed off a driving version of their Vision concept at Goodwood without camo. This is presumably the new design language.

morning everyone

I drive an older American muscle car, but even still I’d rather drive with my windows down, ac works but it’s not the best

I have CORBEAU A4 racing seats in my car that are material not leather (i hate leather). And the one big issue i’m running into is back sweat. my seat is pretty dam wet from the sweat during a drive.

has there been any type of product or solution to this I can put behind me or on the seat when I drive? i’m not asking for cooling seats but has anyone used or did something to help?

anything would be appreciated

Introduction:

Ever since seeing an E92 M3 ad for the first time, I was hooked. Playing it in Need for Speed: Undercover made me want it even more. Since graduating high school in 2009, I've had a few fun BMWs (E34 540i, E39 540i) but never an M. Anyway, I got older and life responsibilities come up so I stopped with the fun cars and got things that were more "adult and responsible" (Tacoma and X3). Well recently, I've hit some life goals and did a lot of the responsible things so decided I could treat myself and scratch the itch of having a fun weekend car once again and so began the hunt for a car.

My list comprised of: 987 Cayman base/S, E39 M5, E46 M3, E92 M3, Z4M (E86) and the 996 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S. Basically cars I thought were cool in my teens lol. No real rhyme or reason besides that.

First, the 996 was thrown out of contention simply because I could not find one that met my requirements (budget, manual transmission, coupe, decent mileage, good condition). Similarly, the Z4M, I could not find any in my province.

Eventually, for various reasons, I also eliminated the E39 and E46 (sacrilege I know, but most in my area were clapped out or in SMG or a convertible).

So I was down to choosing between a Cayman base/S or E92 M3 and I hummed and hawed at this for a good while. I test drove a Cayman base and a S and they are excellent cars. Small, nimble , balanced, fun. I didn't end up buying the ones I test drove because for the base the history wasn't great and I thought the seller was asking for too much and the S had non existent service history. But I was sold on a Cayman, preferably an S if I could find a good example.

So...why did I end up with the M3? Simply put, the sound of the V8, nostalgia and coming across a really good example. Found a dealer that had it listed and went to check it out. Checked all the boxes: full service history, rod bearings and throttle actuators done, 6 speed, carbon roof, EDC, decent mileage, stock. Then I drove it. And I remembered why I wanted one so desperately back in the day. The V8 induction noise is simply amazing and I was sold.

Styling:10/10 totally biased

Completely subjective category and completely biased but I think the E92 M3 is the best looking M3. The subtle differences between the M3 and the regular 3 series is what appeals to me. The hump in the hood (bonnet) because the S65 was too big. The flared fenders. Not so subtle but the quad exhaust tips. Just beautiful.

Interior: 7/10

Again subjective but it's a BMW interior. Nothing flashy, but comfortable. Mine is boring as interiors get as it's black, so not much to really write about. Good quality, no rattles or squeaks and everything has held up well.

Tech/Features:5/10 (it's from 2008, what are you expecting)

I didn't get an M3 from 2008 for the tech lol. Mine is a "double hump" which means it comes with the ancient iDrive system. Ideally it would have been a single hump but was not a deal breaker. Surprisingly, I don't hate the iDrive system. It's obviously outdated but it's easy enough to use to set my custom settings.

Also included in mine is the premium audio (individual audio) and the speaker quality is amazing. Not really an audiophile but I can noticeably tell the difference in quality from my X3 (regular audio) and the M3. Again, not something I was looking for but a nice to have.

Car came with the comfort access which lets me unlock the door without having to use the fob. This is noted because neither of my newer cars have that so I found it hilarious. Also I don't have to put the fob in the slot and then push the ignition button which is nice (common for mid to late 2000s cars).

Ride/Handling:8.5/10

Take this with a grain of salt because I'm not a race car driver and the M3 is the sportiest car I've owned and the second sportiest car I've driven (after the Cayman).

The EDC (electronic damper control) option gives me the option to put the suspension in various settings: comfort, sporty, sportier. The car is comfortable in comfort setting; rides like a a sporty luxury car. Sporty in middle setting and sportier but not quite harsh in the sportiest setting. I tend to leave it in the middle setting for most drives and switch it to the sportiest on some more spirited drives...as expected, no surprise there.

The handling didn't surprise me but surprised me at the same time? If that makes sense? I expected it would handle well, being an M car, but being an older car I tempered my expectations (especially after driving the Cayman) and I guess that's why I was a bit surprised. Obviously, it won't match the Cayman, but the M3 is planted through corners and on 180 degree highway ramps. It is an amazing handling car for the type of driving I do (aka nowhere near the limit) . It feels stable, predictable and honestly, probably flatters my actual abilities. The steering is hydraulic and solid. It's communicative and feels good. Obviously leagues better than my X3 and Tacoma but also much better than my old E34 and E39 (predictably as they're older cars and not M cars). The Cayman's steering felt less numb in my opinion but the M3's is no slouch.

Engine:10/10 totally biased

Basically the reason I fell in love with the car. Oh my god this engine. "Only" 414hp and 295lb-ft of torque. Low numbers for the current age when the current generation M3 puts out 473hp and 406 lb-ft.. A big complaint about the engine is the relatively low torque numbers. Well...the car is still fast. I think the way cars have been developed really desensitized us to hp figures. The engine is amazingly responsive, even for a NA engine. The individual throttle bodies make the response damn near instant (in perception). The induction noise coming through the cabin when you step on the throttle is simply one of the best sounding things I've ever heard. The engine pulls hard and pulls smooth. At almost an 8400 rpm red line, the engine screams when you let it get into the higher ranges and boy does it love to be in the higher rev ranges. This engine wants to be there and if you drive it there you're rewarded for it.

One of the big issues with the engine is the reliability; most serious are the rod bearings. Throttle actuators are also an issue. Thankfully both had been addressed on my car by the previous owner. Even then, I'm diligent in letting the engine warm up to proper temps before opening it up.

Transmission: 8/10?

Full disclosure: my only experience with manual transmissions are my old BMWs and the Caymans I test drove and some old beat up army trucks.

People complain about mushy BMW transmissions. I don't really get it because..well limited experience with different types of manuals. The M3 has a better transmission than both my old BMWs and thankfully old army trucks. Feels precise and goes into the gears easily. The clutch is super easy to use. Now in comparison to the Porsche I would say it's less precise, but not by much. For the clutch I prefer the BMW clutch but that's probably because it's what I am used to.

Conclusion:

It is not a perfect car. It's a car that has been driven. It's got some faults in the paint. Whoever initially put on the front plate bracket put it on crooked. One of the emblems is a bit tarnished. The stupid seat belt helper doesn't actually give you your seatbelt (I coded this out). It has 155000 km on it. It's been in a minor-moderate accident which will effect the resale. But I don't care, I'm keeping it forever if I can.

I'm a terrible photographer but here's a pic: https://imgur.com/a/VkXQyeh

Also I know I see the hood gap too. Common ish on the E92s? I have to adjust the hood and/or bumper.
