A daily + track comparison of two cars that I personally was torn between a few years ago.

I might be biased, but I'm not surprised the R won. I truly don't think as many people are pushing/can push 9/10s to actually feel the difference between these two, even throwing the CTR in the mix although it's shifter plays a big factor. Very surprised at the dyno figures for the GRC, which aligns with the U Drags results vs the Elantra N.

My first sporty car was a '97 Honda Prelude, my next and current car is '08 Nissan 350Z.

During ownership of both, i noticed some people that drive regular cars would admire these cars and think they're cool.

Though that is true and they are cool, at the end of the day, it was just a car to me.

So those with cool cars (sports cars, super cars, etc.), is it "just a car" to you or is it something more?

TLDR - The image is from BestCar from Japan while the information that i’ll be presenting is summarized from Headlightmag (One of Thailand’s most reliable source for car news)

  1. What is it? - Codenamed “500D”, will be called the “Land Cruiser FJ”, Body-On-Frame, Based on the IMV2 Platform (Same as the Hilux and Fortuner), 4.4M long, 5-Seat, Bigger than the Suzuki Jimny, Sits below the Fortuner in Toyota’s Global Lineup, 7 Colors Available (
  2. Coming When? - Will be launched at the Japan Mobility Show on October 29-30, going on sale in Japan and Thailand in Early 2026.
  3. How Big? - Length x Width x Height (mm): 4,410 x 1,855 x 1,870 - Wheelbase: 2,580 mm
  4. Engine? - Initially launching with the 2TR-FE 2.7 Petrol - 166ps - 6 Speed Auto (no details on manual), Potentially 2.4/2.8 GD Diesel in a few years (was supposed to come at launch but both Toyota JP and TH were busy with other investigation after a scandal and need to reprioritize), no details on EV or Hybrid as of today.
  5. Build Where? - Thailand.
  6. Coming to Europe or US? - No Idea.

(Would like to note that the current interior you see here is likely, according to Headlightmag, is a render by BestCar)

My own folks wouldn't let me have a VW Beetle, as they felt that they were deathtraps. They also wouldn't let me have an old Cadillac, as they felt they looked "ghetto", whatever the hell that meant.

I was wondering this and would think it would be a German brand that is relatively owned by younger crowd of some sorts. Is there any online data that has this information?

Someone vandalized the Nissan Juke wikipedia page and it’s both hilarious and not. Although I don’t enjoy the styling of the Juke now it’s hard to know if the information is correct according to the Wiki page.

A lot of cars are “normal” on the outside but weird on the inside. One I’m thinking about is my friend’s VW Golf wagon from a few years ago , which also had a diesel engine and a dual-clutch gearbox, and was sold in the US. Which is definitely an oddball for a small family wagon/economy hatch.

What are the weirdest “normal” cars on sale today

A lot of hated vehicles are always a result of “good on paper, but poor on execution”.

Take the Pontiac Aztek for instance. It was an overall great vehicle in terms of practicality, and would’ve sold like hotcakes if it wasn’t for the poor execution, showcased by its rather hideous design.

What were vehicles which were “poor on paper, but great on execution”?

The first vehicle that comes to mind is the Porsche Cayenne

Now, SUVs and performance vehicles don’t go hand in hand, but somehow, the Cayenne IIRC was the first proper performance SUV (in GTS form), and it also managed to save Porsche from bankruptcy, which helped Porsche give rise to some amazing beasts (like the 918 Spyder)

It's honestly better than I was expecting, seems like Nissan really tried on this one. The BOF SUV market is super competitive, will be curious to see how this does.

Maybe some of us were driving beaters. Others had dream cars before having to sell for one reason or another. Go back as far as you are able and let's us know what your transportation situation looked like.
