So I thought this would be an interesting thread. What was the best year of model releases by a single brand? For me I'd have to go back to 2003, my second year of high school. This manufacturer suddenly blew everyone away.

Nissan in 2003! The 350z The G35 The Fx35/45

Whether you were a girl or a guy, into cars or not the G35 coupe was beautiful to you. A neck breaker. The 350z was also very very popular in its own right and probabaly one of the moat popular cars in any video game for the next decade. The FX was revolutionary, no other suv had the same look/vibe. The exhaust tones on all three were jolting and rather unbelivable from an affordable and attainable factory car.

Anyone agree? Disagree? Other options?

I am hoping my fav podcaster and auto guy u/JasonCammisa covers it on revelations or on carmudgeon at some point!

James attempts an intro and the boys try an old Aston on for size. That new Vantage might be one of the best looking cars you can buy today, I kinda love it. But the old one still looks good considering it's going on 20 years old!

And of course, congrats /u/ThrottleHouseTH!!

Let's see how they compare:

The heart of the powertrain will be a new turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four that could produce up to 400 horsepower.

For example, the 10th generation Civic Hatchback is made in the U.K. Or the FIAT 500l being made in the former Yugo factory.

These are the first images of the BMW 'Neue Klasse' saloon from some cold-weather testing.

This is going to be the future of the 3 Series; an all-electric version, built from the ground up.

2030 is a long ways away... methinks they're getting more and more cold feet about their EV transition plans given the down sales and leaked this to hedge their bets / gauge market reaction

The Lonestar Kei group which worked with the Texas DMV to overturn their ban on titling Kei vehicles has now added SEMA as a supporter of their efforts.

Bills filed in both the House and Senate have SEMA's support. These bills would make the current DMV policy law.

Pretty cool to have SEMA backing this, and hopefully it means more states get in on the Kei action.

The CPPA’s Enforcement Division alleged that Honda violated Californians’ privacy rights by:

  • requiring Californians to verify themselves and provide excessive personal information to exercise certain privacy rights, such as the right to opt-out of sale or sharing and the right to limit;
  • using an online privacy management tool that failed to offer Californians their privacy choices in a symmetrical or equal way;
  • making it difficult for Californians to authorize other individuals or organizations (known as “authorized agents”) to exercise their privacy rights; and
  • sharing consumers’ personal information with ad tech companies without producing contracts that contain the necessary terms to protect privacy.

I don't know about you guys but I am extremely excited to see footage of the McLaren W1 performing on a track. Just by the numbers this car seems to be absolutely crazy.

It's a RWD car with a 5.7s 0-200kph (130mph), faster than a Plaid, even though it's 0-60mph is "only" 2.7s.

The acceleration this thing will pick up once it gets traction will be insane. I can't imagine how it will do around a track while weighing 1400kg and with 1000kg of downforce.

Yes I know, it's a few million and none of us will drive it, but I'm so glad McLaren is pushing the limits of RWD cars and matching the new Ferrari F80s AWD performance.

So in the US, auto inspections have been on the downward trend. Recently both Idaho and Tennessee removed their requirements for emissions testing.

A lot of states removed safety inspections in the 90s and early 2000s. Texas removed the requirement this year and Utah did it 6 years ago. Right now New Hampshire is debating a bill to remove it there as well. Currently only 14 states require annual or biennial inspection, and the vast majority are on the east coast.

New Jersey removed safety inspections in 2010 and found no increase in auto accidents.

Meanwhile Canada has even less testing than we do.

The only place in Canada that has regular emission testing is some areas in Ontario.

In Nova Scotia, safety inspections are required every two years. In New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, cars must undergo annual safety inspections.

Now, if we go across the Atlantic, it's the opposite. Most places in Europe have very strict auto rules. The UK has what's known as the MOT, which requires an annual test, where as the rest of Europe requires it every other year.

Germany is probably known for their most strict testing. They test things like the angle of your headlights to make sure they're aimed correctly. In fact many US auto magazines have written about how strict they are there compared to what we have in the US.

I can say we have both safety and emission testing in North Carolina, but ever since Covid it seems like it's not enforced anyway. NC is currently waiting for EPA approval to phase out emission testing on all cars newer than 2017. It seems to me the people who won't pass, just don't bother getting them anymore, and until that gets policed they aren't doing much.

What are everyone else's thoughts?

Hopefully other manufacturers are able to design compliant systems and start shipping these quickly. The era of being blinded at night by headlights needs to be over as soon as possible. Way behind Europe in this regard, but better late than never.
