• Having learned her own backstory, the changeling is trying to come to terms with her identity.

• The creature made of sticks and mud is a changeling, created by the old night hag Granny Dismal to replace Kayra, who she'd stolen away to raise as a hag.
• As Kayra grew up into a powerful young night hag, the changeling has been living Kayra's human life and hiding her true nature. But it's getting complicated.
• After being exposed in front the real Kayra, the changeling finally has someone to talk to - and she just learned she does, in fact, have a soul.

As for Singing Cricket: he said something very rude to Granny Dismal, so she sent him away to think about what he did. It's not clear where he went, but he seems to be finding his way back through other comics. Happily, u/yoffeepop's Table Top crew are pretty welcoming and supportive.

What's going on here?

• Kayra is a young night hag, just learning her craft. She lives with Singing Cricket, a retried adventurer she calls her "husband".
  • Kayra was taken away from her parents as a toddler and replaced with a changeling.
  • That changeling is living its own life as Kayra.
• Tamilda was a 12-year-old orphan who Singing Cricket's party rescued from goblins on their adventures. And because she was weirdly competent (incredibly lucky dice rolls), they brought her with them on more adventures than they probably should have.
  • When Tamilda first encountered Kayra, she was trying to kill her. It didn't quite work out as planned.
  • After having very little luck looking for female companionship, Tamilda has with some reluctance finally decided to try being friends with Kayra.
  • Now they're basically besties.
• They're all heading into the city, where everyone's paths will probably converge

As the DM I couldn't be happier.

They basically sold samples of 4 different strains of a gnarly zombie virus, the lab used to make them, and all the notes the crazed wizard used to make them. And 1 of the party members almost died because of one of the diseases on the way back to town because he was out of spell slots, the disease kept lowering his CON stat, and part of the sickness was preventing him from getting the benefits of a long rest.
