Welcome!

Can you imagine, years ago how the internet was before? We know Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, Youtube. We knew blogger, Tumblr, Skyrock... and long before, it was the forum era as phpBB..and mail-lists.

And now with ActivityPub, we are reshaping the web, and achieving much more with lots of freedom. So thank you all, and welcome 🤟😁

Hi ! I hope you are well ! Here is our weekly thread 😎

The fediverse is big ! Let's share our small gold nugget found in the fediverse. :)

It could be :

  • A new peertube channel
  • An interesting mastodon account to follow
  • Your new community ! Yes ! Why not ?
  • An cool gallery of picture from pixelfed
  • A playlist from funkwhale
  • A text that moved you

Let's dig together ! 😁

A step-by-step visual guide for newbies about how to install and setup YunoHost - it's easy, fast and accessible to all

I wish I had #fediverse (#mastodon #pleroma #akkoma #friendica #hubzilla #iceshrimp #snac #lemmy #mbin #kbin #piefed ) #client , I mean like #ELK #lmst #pl-fe #phanpy #tooty #sengi #pinafore #halcyon . That would allow me to sort my subscription feed & browse sorted feed, to see ONLY relevant posts (on topic updates follow-up's?).
Well, the mastodon feature of "LISTS" tries something similiar by allowing to make a sorted list of people\subscription, sorted by your custom category/topic. But it doesn't include #tags. Each #tag must be browsed separately, individually, manually, and there is no feature of list of tags in mastodon.
Lemmy, mbin, kbin, piefed and other #reddit #forum like #activitypub implementations allow you to have topics-threads, but each thread does not replicate very well across multiple servers/instances. Can't be easely crossposted ( by pinging multiple category-bots). And doesn't replicate & easily-searchable as classic mastodon #tags.

Other things I don't like:
- twitter like reposts. they make you feel you subscribed not to the original "reposter" friend, but to "reposted content" that you never subscribed for. the #f2f p2p architecture of #scuttlebot (#scuttlebutt) kinda eliminates that, they don't have nor show reposts. you see there only original posts, original content, of friends you follow. Kinda helps to slow down the mind from informational overflow. You can opt out to see posts of friend's friends, if you want more. Tags are also supported there.
- threads consist only of information aggretator url sharing in reddit like clones. Without having OP OC like in bbs|AgoraRoad , they just silo you to clickbait to other web sites.

After 5 months of chipping away at it, PieFed is now an installable 'app' in the Yunohost store! It's been there for a couple of weeks actually but until this weekend it had a scary red exclamation mark because some automated tests hadn't ran yet. But that's gone now so I feel confident about recommending it to others.

Yunohost is a linux distro for servers that has a web gui for installing and managing services, that takes all the hassle out of self-hosting. How to get started with Yunohost.

@squirrel@piefed.kobel.fyi and @michael@piefed.chrisco.me have had good success setting up their instances already: https://piefed.social/c/piefed_meta/p/1561141/thanks-to-rimu-ericgaspar-and-tituspijean-yunohost-has-a-working-piefed-setup

How do I copy and paste text that has hyperlinks, and for Lemmy, Piefed, etc, to automatically acknowledge them as hyperlinks.

For example. I'd like to copy and paste text from Reddit to here, but when I copy and paste text that has hyperlinks, only the display text is included and not the hyperlink within.

For example, hyperlinks like from this post: <https://www.reddit.com/r/FreeGameFindings/comments/1pk1xym/epic_games_mobile_game_dead_cells/ >

So, is it getting quieter here in the #Fediverse; is it even dying?
That I don't know, but I can add some data: At least for @heiseonline it seems to be the opposite; the number of comments and likes keeps on growing.

Features

  • Context menu additions/changes; by @olorin99.
  • On long press, explore items open the community or user context menu; by @olorin99.
  • Add ability to search specific users or communities; by @olorin99.
  • Allow user to quickly re-login on Mbin OAuth error; by @olorin99.
  • Allow uploading images to comments via image hosting services; by @olorin99.
  • Reorderable feed sort/filter/view settings; by @olorin99.
  • Post layout update with reorderable components; by @olorin99.
  • Add ability to create thread and microblog cross posts; by @jwr1.
  • Add links for local and remote fediverse urls to context menu; by @jwr1.

PieFed polls

By @olorin99.

Support for PieFed polls has been integrated! You can both interact with polls by voting or viewing results, and also create your own polls. Please note the API for PieFed polls has not been stabilized yet, so poll support will only work on cutting edge PieFed servers (such as https://crust.piefed.social/) in the meantime.

User Tags and PieFed Flairs

By @olorin99 and @jwr1.

Support was added for viewing the flairs associated with a post on PieFed. Additionally, you can also assign community-defined tags to your own posts, either while creating them, or afterwards using the context menu.

User tags were also added to Interstellar. They allow assigning little comments (tags) to specific users, which help you keep track of who is who. User tags apply regardless of the platform or account you are signed into, so unlike flairs, they work with Mbin and Lemmy accounts as well.

Fixes

  • Fix app bar title spanning multiple lines for microblogs; by @jwr1.
  • Fix direct message page error for PieFed; by @olorin99.
  • Fix comment refresh on post page; by @olorin99.
  • Fix user scroll controller attached to multiple positions; by @olorin99.
  • Fix some nsfw blurring; by @olorin99.

  • Fix next page key not being passed to the paging controller; by @olorin99.
  • Fix accessing state in initState when not mounted; by @olorin99.
  • Fix search input focus on user/community search screen; by @olorin99.
  • Fix error when fetching new page and feed isn't mounted; by @olorin99.
  • Add non-empty database constraints; by @jwr1.

Blogs are one of the historical features of Movim, the upcoming 0.32 release will redefine how…

12

Federated groups in Bonfire will be spaces where communities gather to organise, care, and coordinate across the fediverse. They'll live next to your personal feed, but each group having a specific purpose: a study circle, a lab team, an activist collective, a local mutual aid crew, a project team. Inside you’ll find posts, conversations, calendars, shared resources, and more. Crucially, groups will be portable and interoperable.

Wir können in den letzten Monaten einen deutlichen Rückgang der aktiven Nutzenden feststellen. Doch was genau sind die Gründe dafür und was können wir dagegen tun?

Interessanter Artikel.

Got a chat message of nothing but hola. I would add its someone I don't know but being the fediverse that is given. Its an anonymous network and we at best maybe recognize a few usernames. Anywhoo im wondering if its a new spam campaign like the fediverse chick thing or something.

Hey yall! I suppose I’m slowly getting back to federated platforms and soon off of reddit. Is there anything I need to know before browsing thru piefed? I heard Lemmy has had some past controversies and i made a post via my lemmy.blahaj.zone account where the comments section got heated, so i decided to show up here on piefed.social. Not yet ready to instance hop yet as I heard some of these developments have been new. So catch me up, how does Piefed feel?

22

For people who don't know, https://lemmy-federate.com/ is a tool that allows Lemmy instances to know about new communities created, avoiding the "this community does not exist" issue when trying to look up a community nobody on your instance subscribed to.

Piefed-side, Piefed instances monitor !newcommunities@lemmy.world to prefetch new communities on a daily basis.

It's nice to see that now both types of communities can be fetched by both types of instances!
