A place to post new communities all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

Rules

The rules for behavior are a straight carry over of Mastodon.World's rules. You can click the link but we've reposted them here in brief, as a guideline. We will continue to use the Mastodon.World rules as the master list. Over all, be nice to each other and remember this isn't a community built around debate. For the rules about formatting your posts, scroll down to number 2.

1. Follow the rules of Mastodon.world, which can be found here.

A. Provide an inclusive and supportive environment. This means if it isn't rulebreaking and we can't be supportive to them then we probably shouldn't engage.

B. No illegal content.

C. Use content warnings where appropriate. This means mark your submissions NSFW if need be.

D. No uncivil behavior. This includes, but is not limited to: Name Calling; Bullying; Trolling; Disruptive Commenting; or Personal Criticisms.

E. No Harrassment. As an example in relation to Transgender people this includes, deadnaming, misgendering, and promotion of conversion therapy. Similarly Misogyny, Misandry, and Racism are also banned here.

2. Include a community or instance title and description in your post title. - A following example of this would be New Communities - A place to post new communities or instances all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

3. Follow the formatting. - The formatting as included below is important for people getting universal links across Lemmy as easily as possible.

Formatting

Please include this following format in your post:

[link text](/c/community@instance.com)

This provides a link that should work across instances, but in some cases it won't

You should also include either:

!community@instance.com

or instance.com/c/community

FAQ:

Q: Why do I get a 404?

A: At least one user in an instance needs to search for a community before it gets fetched. Searching for the community will bring it into the instance and it will fetch a few of the most recent posts without comments. If a user is subscribed to a community, then all of the future posts and interactions are now in-sync.

Q: When I try to create a post, the circle just spins forever. Why is that?

A: This is a current known issue with large communities. Sometimes it does get posted, but just continues spinning, but sometimes it doesn't get posted and continues spinning. If it doesn't actually get posted, the best thing to do is try later. However, only some people seem to be having this problem at the moment.

If you create a community, please try and populate it with content. I see a lot of new communities with 0-1 posts from the mod. That's not nearly enough to get people engaged - users are going to see that it's a ghost town and leave.

If you have enough interest to create a community, you probably know something about the subject matter, so PLEASE add some posts (5-10 would be a good start). Maybe some questions to get people talking, even popular reposts from other sites. It sucks shouting into a void, but if you don't do it, everyone else will also be shouting into a void.

Also please consider whether you need to create a community! When there are 100 million users of the site, there may be 1000 people who are interested in the same exact niche tabletop RPG as you, but there are <500,000 users here for now, so you'll be lucky to find 10. Consider creating a thread in a broader community (like boardgames) until you have enough people talking in the thread that it gets messy - then it's time to create a separate community.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Have recently created a new c/Europe community for posting news and discussions relating to Europe. This community allows news and discussions of the Palestine conflict, bear in mind that encouragement or apologia of genocide is not allowed.

If this community seems like something you'd enjoy please feel free to join:

Why new Technology community?

In my humble opinion, none of the existing Technology communities had achieved optimal moderation + fit home server for the community.

To achieve the optimal mix here, moderation would need to be kept to the minimum (Remove non appropriate, spam, bots and off-topic replies and posts) to encourage discussions, as long as it's related to technology and to have it on tech related server.

More importantly, I am trying also my best to keep this technology space commercial free. In my opinion, commercial news organisations don't have anything to do with tech news reporting.

Initially, I will be the only mod till I can appoint other trusted mods.

Hopefully, this community will grow beyond me as a mod and the philosophy behind it will be developed and adapted to other communities as well.

I will take the community members feedback, if any major change or issue happened.

Hopefully, I made my case here about why I think my community is important and how it's aiming to differentiate itself from the other technology communities.

If you found a flaw in the rules or the philosophy, please point it out in the comments.

Discuss and learn how to sell items on marketplaces such as eBay, Craigslist, Mercari, and many more.

You don't have to be a full time reseller, learn and resell your own personal items for someone else to enjoy.

After reading Ultra-Processed People, I felt compelled to create a space where we can collectively scream into the void—and maybe also do something more constructive.

This community is for anyone concerned about the rise of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) and their impact on our health. From cancer and diabetes to obesity and even mental health, the science is becoming hard to ignore.

I hope this space helps build awareness, solidarity, and support as we navigate the modern diet and try to reclaim real food.

Join us:

Welcome to !exo@discuss.online! It's a community for posting about the webcomic Extra Ordinary as well as related projects by the author, Li Chen. New comics are posted as they're posted to the site, and old comics are posted once a day. The author also has a new book that you'll probably like if you like the comics, and I've posted about here:

The sumo community here's pretty low-volume / dormant, but things pick up a bit for the Japanese tournaments that happen several times a year. For the next couple weeks I'm going to be posting daily collections of videos about the May tournament that just started in Japan.

Imagine a pair of US football linebackers crashing against each other. But they can also slug each other in the face with open-palm strikes, do arm-locks, or throw/trip each other, and they're not wearing any padding just wrestling belts. And there's a priest urging them on, because they're really doing all this for the gods of Shinto.

Check out this intro video and then swing by the sumo community for tournament update videos! Feel free to ask questions.

Honestly, I think the idea pretty much explains itself lol.

Also, I don't have time today for an in depth back and forth as I usually would. I threw a little bomb in there about the Ohio shooting if anyone wants to get it going but I may not be able to be too much of a part of it.

Also: If you didn't hate this idea already and want to tell me I'm a pain in the ass, check this out: The whole reason behind this community is that I made a little LLM tool that can take a look at a discussion and call out bad faith in the argumentation. I'm actually pleased with how it is working in testing. But... it's weird to have it inject itself into disagreements without both participants wanting that to happen. It's like calling up your mom to tell someone you're arguing with that you are right and they need to agree with you. So, to put it into action I would like at some point to enable it in some way within this specific debate community. But I'm really not sure what that even should look like. I think probably the way to go about it is to have the community and the human participation come first, and then only after that, consult with the people there about progressing it to some kind of input from it, or moderation that is more "argue in good faith pls" and less "don't use any racism otherwise any horrendous distortion of reality is fine" as in most communities.

Edit: Someone raised I think a pretty valid point about it being offensive to have people's comments fed into an AI thing. I think consider the AI bot on hold until I can address those concerns.

Anyway, feel free to subscribe, go nuts, feel free to tell me why I am literally a sealion. Peace.

One of the things that I missed the most from Reddit was the strength training subs, as they were great motivation to stay consistent, and the occasional program parties were a lot of fun. A bunch of folks trying to get through super squats and drinking a gallon of whole milk per day made for some pretty interesting workout reports.

I have not traditionally been a community builder in the past, but I believe there is big a gap in the Fediverse where strength training should be.

I always used to pass by the snooker community on Reddit, but since I left Reddit, and after a long time, I decided to create a community for snooker.

Not a popular sport, but I hope I can find fans and fans who recently started to watch, like me, join and discuss about snooker!

I made 2 posts + 1 pinned, and more to come!

World Championships it's on going, at the moment the tournament is semi-finals.

/c/videogamesuggestions@lemmy.zip

Meant to replace r/gamingsuggestions in spirit. Noticed !games@lemmy.world getting a decent amount of posts asking for gaming suggestions, figured having a dedicated community for them might be nice. (And if not, I can still collect and link to those posts for anyone wanting Lemmy-sourced game recommendations!)
