I think this would be great. Like leave 47th, Ward Parkway, Roanoke, and Baltimore/Mill Creek Parkway open to vehicle traffic, but close everything within that bounded area to vehicles. Create some additional greenspace in the former roadways. Allow for dining al fresco...when it's not 100F for a week straight, anyway.

It's basically how it goes when the Plaza Art Fair and other festivals happen and it's fine. And that's when vehicle and pedestrian traffic is at its worst!

I hope this comes to fruition, it has so much potential.

I know it's still "hotter than two rats in a fucking wool sock," but supposedly it's supposed to rain and cool down this weekend. So maybe these outdoor events might be bearable,

Honestly, I'm just sticking with either staying at home (as usual) or doing indoor stuff. Like maybe a French Organ Music Festival XI Aug. 27 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception!

I think all of us know how bad it's about to get. Today was already pretty bad after a week of temps in the low 80s during the day and 60s overnight.

Fall can't come soon enough.

Stay cool and stay safe, people!

Is it really still closed or are all the internets confused?

Anyone have any tips on good places to view this outside of the metro area? I live in Olathe and have tried the area around Hillsdale Lake before which was alright, but still had quite a bit of glow in the horizon.

There's a couple missing on this list, one I'd recommend is International Tap House - Crossroads. It's free and the winning team/s get free beer and other items.

It’s hard to pin an exact number, but throughout western Kansas’s ~400 mi slog to Colorado, I was forced to view semi trailers with trump’s visage printed on the side, hilariously corny White Jesus signs, and Anti-Abortion signs approximately every ten miles.

I found it so disheartening, knowing that someone went through the effort of painting a semi trailer with Trump’s face on it and planting it right next to the interstate.

What does this accomplish? Who’s vote is being swayed by this garish tribute?

I have seen endless discussions online about Trump fans being culty, but this (apart from the coal rollers with flags) is the first time I’ve seen this type of undying loyalty in the wild.

The Jesus and anti-abortion signs are painful, but nowhere near as painful as these Trump shrines.

I am interested in the opinions of anybody, regardless of political affiliation. What do you think of this?

Also, I’m sorry I didn’t get a picture. I feel like the guy that claims he saw a UFO but has nothing to show for it. If anyone is driving through Kansas on their way to Colorado or vice Versa, PLEASE try and snag a picture of these Jesus signs and Trump trailers, so that people can properly contextualize this post.

A Missouri appeals court has upheld the convictions of a 34-year-old man in the killings of Kara Kopetsky and Jessica Runions, two young women who disappeared roughly 10 years apart in Cass County.

Don't forget to vote in these elections today! Local elections are where your votes carry the most power!

I just had Grandma's Pizza from Clay & Fire last night and my god, it's one of the best pies I've ever had. I'd put it up there with Extra Virgin and Pizza 51.

If you like me are pining for radio programs we used to have, check this out. Dick Ray Plumbing is a trash company today, but once upon a time when he was still alive, Dick had a really great radio program on KMBZ. This guy was very smart. It's a damn shame what happened to his company. Skip the crap commercial videos and go straight to "The Home Improvement Hour" videos.

The new food hall, which is expected to open in August, will occupy parts of two levels in the Cascade. It will feature four chef-driven concepts and two bars. Craft said commitments have been made for two restaurant spaces and a third is nearing completion.

There will be two food concepts and a bar on the ground level accessed by an entrance at the corner of 46th Terrace and Wornall. Upstairs on the lobby level, there will be two more food concepts and a bar that will open with an 80-seat outdoor patio overlooking the Plaza.

The Strang Chef Collective also will provide room service to guests at both hotels, the Aloft is connected to the Cascade, and also catering for activities at the Cascade’s event space. Chefs from the entire collective, not just the Cascade, will be able to cater there.

The City Council voted unanimously to join the lawsuit, however it is not clear if the city can sue the county. More to come I’m sure…

Just curious how people are doing after that crazy storm that passed through the KC area on Friday afternoon.

I'm still without power in Waldo 48+ hrs after the event. While I avoided any property damage or injuries, I do have neighbors that had trees crashing down on their houses. Luckily they seem to have come out otherwise uninjured. I saw two houses behind McGonigle's/Fareway Market on 79th and Ward Parkway where very large trees fell on the houses and smashed vehicles.

How are you all doing? Still without power? Braving the heat or found refuge elsewhere? Receive any storm-related damage?

I just thought it would be cool to put this out there. The Satellites featured several local skaters from Fountain City Roller Derby: Tiff (a former Team USA skater), Mel Malice, Aneeda Hurtcha, Annie Maul, and Queen of Hurts. As if that wasn't cool enough, Olympic Gold Medalist Erin Jackson was also skating for the Satellites.

Pretty. Effing. Rad.

If you're interested in checking out roller derby, you can find more info on fountaincityrollerderby.com.

Since web searches are almost useless for this kind of thing anymore, I wanted to see if anyone here has KC restauraunt recommendations for vegan eating. Been living here a couple years and have been to and like the Fix, Mud Pie, the Wooden Spoon, and Blue Koi, but I'd love to have more options.

Went on a bike ride around the city with some folks yesterday. This is one of a few pics I took along the way. It was a great day to ride, if a little hot.

Full Twitter thread from Mayor Q:

Four years ago, advocates for our new American community; in homelessness outreach; and those seeking better services for all, approached me about a municipal ID program, helping our residents access checking/savings accounts, build businesses, and access better city services.

Today, we are ready to implement. With my sincerest thanks to WeDevelopment Credit Union, proudly founded as a Black-owned financial institution based at 30th and Prospect with city support, the new Fountain Card will be accessible to all Kansas Citians—removing barriers to all.

The Fountain Card can be used as ID and to access all city services, the library, transit, banking services, and more. This will be transformative for access to opportunity for everyone present in Kansas City. We look to grow even more places for card deployment. I am proud.
