Stories like this are kinda why I hope someone just presses the red button one day.

100%

There's a reason why I don't do family Christmas and just hang out at home with my dogs instead. They're way nicer.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Not me, man.

It's wild how motivated people are in this country by mean words and not by poverty wages, unaffordable health care, or crumbling infrastructure.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 4 points 12 hours ago

This, 100%.

They're all on the same team and taking calls from the same lobbyists.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

LOL

Typical bi-partisan bullshit.

The feds can literally decide to reopen enrollment at any time.

Yup.

And the president can call a special session at any time under the US Constitution, if people dying for lack of health care ever becomes any measure of a priority.

We're a bunch of fuckin' idiots.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 5 points 16 hours ago

Good morning!

I started a youtube channel a few months ago, and have an ongoing series where I make short films of my walks. This one is the newest.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Kilmar Abrego Garcia walked away after a scheduled appointment at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office on Friday to the cheers of a crowd assembled outside. A federal judge had ordered that immigration officials could not detain him.

Abrego Garcia appeared for the appointment at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office, some 14 hours after he was released from detention on a judge’s orders. His lawyers had asked the judge to block authorities from detaining him again and he walked out of the building surrounded by cheering supporters after the appearance, then left without commenting.

MILAN (AP) — There is no backup stadium if the main ice hockey arena for the Milan Cortina Winter Games is not ready on time.

Construction on the arena that is set to welcome NHL players back to the Olympics for the first time in more than a decade is behind schedule and its completion is going right down to the wire.

A test event at the Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena — the new, 16,000-seat venue on the outskirts of Milan — had to be moved, and new test events aren’t scheduled until Jan. 9-11.

Is there any source material or canon info detailing how elves in the Forgotten Realms setting handle crime and punishment?

As director of the New River Health Association Black Lung Clinic, Emery’s seen guys as young as 45 getting double lung transplants as disease rates soar among miners forced to dig through more rock filled with deadly silica to reach the remaining coal — far worse than the dust their grandfathers inhaled. A rule approved last year by the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration would cut the federal limit for allowable respirable crystalline silica dust exposure by half to help protect miners of all types nationwide from the current driving force of black lung and other illnesses.

But, now, it’s in jeopardy amid other Trump administration cutbacks and proposals targeting workers’ health and safety guardrails: Stuck in a politically charged environment that promotes industry, with lawmakers arguing to change it and the federal agency that wrote the rule not pushing to enforce it. Some angry retired miners with black lung are fighting back, demanding that President Donald Trump honor promises he made to the people who voted him in.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Denmark’s government on Friday announced a political agreement to ban access to social media for anyone aged under 15.

The move, led by the Ministry of Digitalization, would set the age limit for access to social media but give some parents — after a specific assessment — the right to give consent to let their children access social media from age 13.

Such a measure would be among the most sweeping steps yet by a European government to address concerns about the use of social media among teens and younger children.

Elon Musk has long made a habit of hyper-focusing on a specific project, forcing an entire team to attend to his every whim while letting his other responsibilities fall by the wayside — whether it’s his obsession with Robotaxis impacting Tesla or his weird procreation kink disrupting the private messages of countless women.

The latest object of Musk’s obsession? According to new reporting by the Wall Street Journal, he’s been personally overseeing the developing of xAI’s chatbot Ani — which, tellingly, comes in the form of a super-sexualized pigtail-wearing woman that removes her clothing in response to flirtation.

Washington Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu has been suspended without pay for one game due to repeated violations of playing rules that protect the safety and health of players, the NFL announced Monday evening.

Luvu was sighted for a hip-drop tackle during Washington's loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night, his third hip-drop infraction of the season. The Commanders veteran intends to appeal the suspension, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported. If Luvu's suspension is upheld, he will be docked his $508,333 game check.

"During the first quarter of the Seattle-Washington game, Luvu violated Rule 12, Section 2, Article 18 (a)(b), which states that: 'It is a foul if a player uses the following technique to bring a runner to the ground: (a) grabs the runner with one or both hands or wraps the runner with both arms; and (b) unweights himself by swiveling and dropping his hips and/or lower body, landing on and/or trapping the runner's leg(s) at or below the knee,' the league statement read, in part.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Anthony Taylor will never forget the look of horror on the student’s face. The school crossing guard was walking into the crosswalk in front of Washington Township High School in Indianapolis when a car with a young boy and his mom, who was dropping him off at school, suddenly appeared. The mom’s eyes grew wide, and the boy began vigorously hitting on his mother’s chest.

“Next thing, it was boom, lights out. That’s all I remember,” Taylor said. He woke up in the hospital hours after undergoing surgery for a fractured pelvis and other broken bones.

In many ways, Taylor was lucky. Despite the broken bones and the pins and metal plates to heal his body from that August 2018 collision, he returned to work.

Across the country, school crossing guards like Taylor, who stand in the cold, rain or heat to protect children, face the risk of injuries from drivers who may be distracted or in a hurry.

However, as staffers at major video game developer Electronic Arts — which is behind some of the biggest franchises in the industry, from “The Sims” to “Battlefield” — told Business Insider, their employer’s attempts to shoehorn AI into everyday tasks are seriously backfiring.

Some staffers told the outlet that the AI tools they’re encouraged to use produce flawed code, among other hallucinations that need to be addressed.

In other words, the tech may be creating more work, not less — which doesn’t bode well for an industry that’s already infamous for its crunch culture and high turnover rate.
