Using the Jewish community as an excuse to censor opposition to the genocide in Palestine is an absolutely horrible idea.

Wasn't sure what comm to put this in.

Douglas Valentine's The CIA as Organized Crime is one of the best books I've ever read. His thesis on the Phoenix Program is extremely persuasive. It's got me thinking that everyone is missing the forest for the trees when they talk about Gladio and especially "domestic Gladio." The point of the Strategy of Tension wasn't to do Joker crazy bad guy stuff, it was to do Joker crazy bad guy stuff in order to acquire Phoenix Program-style powers.

When Valentine lays out the history of the agency and this single through-line, it really feels revelatory. Phoenix is the blueprint for all occupation and counter-insurgency. Assassination of MLK (and Fred Hampton, Malcolm X, etc), the war on and dismantling of the Black Panthers, Israel's war on Palestine, Operation Condor, the occupation of Afghanistan, the militarization of the police, everything done in response to Black Lives Matter and the earlier movement in Ferguson (remember the mysteriously disappearing and dying activists), every level of government absolutely littered with "former" spies. Just about every tool we see the ruling class use was pioneered or refined in the Phoenix Program.

I'm excited to read The Phoenix Program (after I finish Family of Secrets) to really get into the weeds.

Sorry if this is incoherent, I got three hours of sleep.

Rodong Sinmun is a newspaper within North Korea (DPRK). KCNA is a news website hosted by DPRK. The article does not specifically use the word "nuke" or "nuclear weapon". The article does mention that Israel has killed many children in the Gaza strip.

The article says "if a country fails to have enough military strength capable of defending itself, it cannot but be pressurized by the imperialists' military threat" and "the dignity and sovereignty of the state and happiness of its people and the future of its children can be guaranteed only when it has self-defensive capability enough to overwhelm any foe."

In my interpretation, "self-defensive capability enough to overwhelm any foe" can only mean nuclear weapons. DPRK possessing nuclear weapons is the main thing that prevents imperialist powers from invading the DPRK.

Full article below:

Only Power Can Defend Future of Children: Rodong Sinmun

Pyongyang, June 1 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Saturday in an article says as follows:

To ensure the rights of children is one of the most important matters related to the development of each country and nation and the future of mankind.

The present situation being created on the globe is so against common sense.

As recognized by the world, the Gaza Strip of Palestine has been reduced into a "tomb of children".

Many countries are bitterly denouncing Israel, but this is not enough to stop the bloodshed in the Gaza Strip.

A country should have strong military power to defend the destiny of its children from the imperialists' moves. It is the law of the world that if a country fails to have enough military strength capable of defending itself, it cannot but be pressurized by the imperialists' military threat and be forced to suffer misfortune and, furthermore, even the existence of its state, people and children cannot be maintained.

This is more important under the situation where the imperialists, the permanent source of war and the main force of aggression and war, remain on the globe and their moves are getting more vicious.

The DPRK has proved in practice that the dignity and sovereignty of the state and happiness of its people and the future of its children can be guaranteed only when it has self-defensive capability enough to overwhelm any foe.

By further strengthening its defence capabilities, the DPRK clearly showed the U.S.-led imperialists how it defends the laughter of its children and its socialist system.

It is necessary to be strong even for the posterity. First of all, we have to become strong. Only then we can more certainly protect the safety of our country and people and the rosy future of our children by dint of further increased strength and perfected strategic force. This is the firm will and faith of our people. -0- www.kcna.kp (Juche113.6.1.)

Shocking news, I know, but a good historical overview

Modi-led Hindu nationalists will likely win the election, and use their new mandate to crush any remaining opposition to their hegemony over Indian democracy.

The Indian elections are indeed a big deal. A total of 543 seats in the lower house are up for grabs for 2600 registered political parties. With 969 million eligible voters, it is also the world’s largest election. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has 15 million people employed to monitor and facilitate the elections. Polling has also been spread across 44 days. In this period, incumbent Prime Minister Modi, in search for a third term, has reportedly attended over 200 public events and given 80 interviews.

It would be easy to say that what we are witnessing is a celebration of democracy. But numbers can be deceptive.

For a few years now India has witnessed a steady democratic downturn. Media and press freedoms have been suppressed and there is little to speak of in terms of journalistic independence in the mainstream. Often dubbed as Godi media – a play on Modi’s name and the word for “lapdogs” – it is not uncommon for mainstream journalism to operate as an arm of the BJP propaganda machinery. Critical journalists have also been targeted by the PM’s cadres as well as federal economic and investigative agencies. In 2024, Reporters without Borders declared the Indian media to be in an “unofficial state of emergency”. The rights of minority groups have also been systematically under attack. Punitive measures have included arbitrary detention and arrests, public floggings and the demolition of homes, businesses and places of worship.

All of these measures helped the Modi-led Hindu nationalists become a hegemonic force in Indian politics long before the elections. Yet, in the lead-up to these elections, they have seemed unsure of their standing. But why?
