Resist: It's Time

We are still in this together, but "this" is going to be real different in the very near future. This demands a different kind of "we."

The French Resistance during Nazi occupation played important roles delivering downed Allied airmen back to safety, supplying military intelligence, and acts of sabotage.

The Underground Railroad is estimated to have brought 100,000 freedom seekers to safety between 1810 and 1850.

It's time.

🚨 🇺🇸 The 50501 movement has set up its own forum! 🇺🇸 🚨

It's hard to know where to organize the resistance, as corporate platforms seem to be increasingly susceptible to censorship. In response to this, 50501 has set up their own forum at https://50501.chat/ - completely off reach from any influence by the #US government.

The forum, which is an instance of Lemmy and therefore on the Fediverse, has State-specific communities. Users of #Mastodon can participate in the discussion directly by tagging for example @New_York@50501.chat or @California@50501.chat.

Use it to organize and spread the word of protests in your State!

Users of Lemmy or similar platforms can find the State-specific communities at, for example, !Georgia@50501.chat.

Feel free to spread the word!

I’m a long time reader of certain USA tech websites. These sites are still posting links to twitter and flogging anazon affiliate links.

Call them out for pretending everything is fine. Encourage them to mention alternatives.

If enough people do this, and if only one of them mentions and alternative if will bring more people to the Fediverse which will make future physical organising safer, more secure and less prone to centralised censorship.

Feel free to use below and modify as needed. After you’ve used it, tell others you did. Keep this visible.
Copy pasta (CC)

I have been a reader of yours for over two decades.

I know this will come off as a bit of a controversial message. Your country is under attack from the inside. The company that is at the basis for your existence it’s aiding and abetting this attack.

Today I read Apple are now hiding the amount of hdd space their stupid Apple Intelligence feature is using on a Mac. This is not normal. This is not Apple. Something has changed. You are part of the fourth estate. You have a readership of a whole bunch of soda slurping kids that don’t know anything about fascism. But being silent is being complicit.

I know capitalism blah blah blah and I know advertisers blah blah blah and I know don’t question the hand that feeds you blah blah blah. And I know most importantly, how increasingly right wing your American readers have been over the years.

There are multiple subtle ways where you don’t have to openly call your current government fascist even though there are photos of Nazi salutes, and you can still support civil action.

Stop posting links to Twitter. If you must refer to Twitter content refer to a mirror that does not send ad revenue to the shadow president.

Post regular articles showing there are alternatives to meta products, alphabet products, Reddit and any older centralised billionaire crap that is actively promoting extreme right wing ideology.

Talk more about the Fediverse. Question why that word is still red underlined in Apple software.

Don’t shy away from promoting buy in Europe movements. Be supportive of your Canadian friends.

Please for the love of everything in the world grow a spine, don’t be fascism enablers. Stop using and promoting their centralised products.

Feel free to ignore this message, but know that the young men of Europe Canada and the rest of the world are not going to come and fight on your beaches.

Help the silent revolution.

Boycotts traditionally require a lot of coordination to make them work. They require:

  • a target (who is supposed to change behavior)
  • a demand (so the target knows what they have to do to get the boycott to stop)
  • boycotters (a lot of people who used to be customers refusing to be customers anymore)
  • leadership/negotiation committee (people who can show the target they’re hurting their bottomline and negotiate over demands)
  • a way to communicate with the boycotters (a structure and massive social reach!).

Government employees fight the Trump administration’s chaos by organizing and publishing information on Bluesky

I don’t think [sighs] that our elected officials really believe in the democracy that we’re supposed to be. I feel that corruption has taken over, that morals and principles can be abandoned. A demagogue like McCarthy could come into power again; we’re not immune to a Hider. It’s being proved every day. Violence is rising; hatreds and ethnic divisiveness are escalating. The kind of country we are known to be is in jeopardy. It has always been true; even more so today. But then there are a lot of people who’d fight. The same way we fought fight it now.

Private security dragged out a woman who had been interrupting a Kootenai County Republican Central Committee legislative town hall in Idaho Saturday as Sheriff Robert Norris stood by, spurring a disagreement between the sheriff and Coeur d’Alene’s police chief over the First Amendment implications of the incident.

This morning at Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HQ in DC as mandatory return to office began, this video played on loop for ~5 mins on screens throughout the building, per agency source. Building staff couldn’t figure out how to turn it off so sent people to every floor to unplug TVs.

Whoever did this, hats off to you.

Edit: Whoever took this video and posted it, hats off to you, too. It takes a village.

This is resistance, and this kind is risky. I know that not very many people will see this, but if you are a person who knows or suspects the identity of any of the people doing this kind of thing, no you don't.

Resist.

The General strike organization is dedicated to creating real change by striking against The System. This country still does not work on behalf of its people. By striking we deny the corporations their greatest power - IT's labour.

Amazon Shopping Alternatives (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

To follow up my previous post, I did some research on alternatives to Amazon Shopping to suggest to anyone interested in ditching Amazon. Note that I have not personally read each company's mission statement. AFAIK, all of these businesses are registered as B Corporations.

If anyone has any reasons that any of these sites aren't a good replacement for Amazon (ie shitty business practices), please let me know so that I can reconsider their inclusion on this list. If anyone has more suggestions as well, I'm all ears. I'll be working on an infographic with this same information as well, to be more easily spread throughout social media.

Law enforcement officials are searching for a suspect after a Tesla dealership was damaged by gunshots in Salem, Oregon, on Wednesday.

This is not my favorite source article, but it does clear up something that's been getting passed around.

Yes, someone shot up a Tesla dealership in Salem, OR, a couple days ago. Yes, this is the same dealership that had one of its cars set ablaze on Jan 20, 2025.

However, this shooting is being conflated with a sticker that says "Kill Elon".

The "name tag" style sticker with "Kill Elon" inscribed on it was not at either Salem, OR, incident. That was a separate thing done by protesters in New York. That's why I chose this article to post, because it refers to that.

(For legal reasons, we cannot recommend this kind of action be undertaken, planned, threatened, encouraged, etc. Definitely do not do anything like this.)
