"LaSalle police said they had transferred him to the RCMP. The national police force, which is responsible for border security outside official ports of entry, confirmed Livers's identity to CBC News.

The RCMP then brought Livers to Canadian border officials. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) declined to comment on the specific case, citing privacy rules.

But Livers says he has applied for refugee protections and has been granted a temporary status in Canada. He says he fears for his life back home, and that's why he crossed in a kayak — not at an official border crossing.

'I remember East Germany when I was a kid,' he said. "Nobody came through Checkpoint Charlie and I wasn't gonna run the gauntlet of ICE, sheriff's department, state police, whomever.'"

I like to collect antiques, usually Canadian military stuff, and would love to know where some genuinely good places are to look. I'm looking for a antique store that sells actual antiques, not random homemade candles and soaps and all that random stuff. I've looked on google maps but lots of them look really hit or miss. The ones over the river in Detroit look nice but I don't like crossing the border unless necessary.

"Amherstburg has ended discussions with the City of Windsor over renewing its policing agreement, citing the city’s refusal to give the town a voting seat on the Windsor Police Services Board.

Mayor Michael Prue told council Monday night that the request for a seat was the only condition Amherstburg brought forward.

'We said to Windsor, we want a seat at the table,' said Prue."

"'You can’t have copies of the agendas. You have to leave the room when we’re discussing Amherstburg. It’s just not right.'

The mayor said three options remain: Restoring the town’s own force, joining with LaSalle police, or contracting with the OPP.

Shame on those in charge in Amherstburg for disbanding the Amherstburg Police in 2018. I guess in 2028 Amherstburg might get its own police force back.

Under the new policy, Windsor will continue to grant flag-raising requests, but only to organizations that are directly related to the city through a funding or partnership agreement, and/or only for events that correspond with days of awareness, celebration, importance, commemoration or promotion that are recognized by the province or federal governments."

"The Town of Tecumseh will not allow fourplexes to be built in established neighbourhoods.

At its meeting Tuesday night, councillors voted 4-3 to reject a plan, introduced by Councillor Alicia Higgison, that would have permitted up to three additional housing units on properties with a minimum 18-metre frontage, and a minimum of 35 per cent of the lot area as landscaped open space."

"Last spring, the Town received $4.4 million in funding from the federal government's Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF). As part of the grant approval, the town agreed to allow fourplexes "as of right" in all residentially zoned properties. Of that funding, $3.2-million was tied to the allowance of fourplexes.

The rejection of the fourplex plan may put that $3.2-million at risk. The Town will now contact the Canada Mortgage Housing Corporation (CMHC) to inform it of council's decision, and await a response."

So if you can't get affordable housing in Tecumseh, blame "Councillors James Dorner, Rico Tonial, Tania Jobin, and Deputy Mayor Joe Bachetti" for voting against this. I hope they enjoy the character of Tecumseh as the next generation sleeps on their porches when they cannot afford housing. Voting against such housing measures AFTER accepting federal funding is just ridiculous. This is the peak of selfishness and blindly serving one's own interests. This will set Windsor backwards from being a competitive modern Canadian city.

Glad to see grassroots dissent and displeasure from Mayors of cities on both sides of the border making their anger known. It seems like by having open communications, the federal governments of both countries will understand that these tariffs are destructive without cause. Here's to hoping that an reasonable, clear minded resolution can be found and Canada and the US can once again continue to be good neighbours. Personally, this is very distressing that this is something to even hope for.

Below are my personal opinions.

Wild. Is she going to be leading the same parks department that insisted on purchasing several $100ks of American made park furnishing without even consulting for locally sourced options/pricing? It sounds like they never even gave serious consideration to the other 230 or so applicants.

Even if she truly was hired without any influence by the Mayor (which I think is impossible to NOT influence the hiring decision), this should absolutely be investigated. I think this reeks of corruption, we just need to figure out to what degree of severity.
