Cycling communities were one of my favourite parts of reddit, and I've been unable to find any equivalents on here so I decided to start this community. Feel free to post and comment about anything related to cycling! I'd love for this place to continue in the spirit of /r/xbiking, not necessarily content-wise but definitely attitude-wise. We're all cyclists, and at the end of the day the only criteria for being a part of this community is riding a bicycle (and enjoying it!)

Please comment any suggestions you have for this space, or simply say hi and let us know what you like to do on your bike!

Brian May has said that the song was not an autobiographical portrait of Mercury and that Mercury did not particularly enjoy bicycling, also noting that despite the lyric "I don't like Star Wars", Mercury was a Star Wars fan.

The song references the band's song "Fat Bottomed Girls" with the line "fat bottomed girls, they'll be riding today". "Fat Bottomed Girls" reciprocates with "Get on your bikes and ride!" The two songs were released together as a double A-sided single.

The mad genius is Colin Furze. I don't think anything else needs said.

The car-oriented imaginary becomes embedded in the stories we tell children, making motonormativity seem natural[...]

Saw this article shared by Urbanism Now:

"Peter Füssy for the Urban Cycling Institute, explores how children’s books reinforce car-oriented thinking from an early age and argues that radical children’s literature can help reimagine urban futures by challenging motonormativity and opening space for alternative mobility imaginaries."

If you have any good children books that goes against this trend, let me know

I am looking for some advice on how to go about finding replacement front fork for my gravel bike. I bought my bike second hand and it was already a few years old at the time I believe which might explain why it is hard to come by a replacement part. The bike in question is a Fuji sportif le one.0.

I am looking for a fork which:

  • has a steerer length of ~10 3/4 inches
  • has a steerer diam of 1 1/8 inches
  • fits a tapered bearing
  • will fit a 9x100 QR axle
  • has a post mount disc brake interface
  • will fit my 28x700c wheels and tires

I have been put onto this ENVE fork which looks a bit too good to be true.

If anyone has tips for looking for new forks, things that I have missed, or other suggestions I would be all ears. Every time I think I may have found a solution I end up learning something new about why it would not work for me.

A story of Seattle. What can your town learn from this? Any of it not ring true for you? Do you know Seattle? Does it match your view?

Video also on youtube as well as the fediverse.

Hi everyone! I've been cycling for years now, spent 5 years in Paris cycling without eye protection. But since I moved to London, I've felt the need to protect my eyes from the wind and humid air. I'm currently using a copy of the 100% S2 (these) I had found on eBay. But when I cycle in winter over 20mn I tend to have to close one eye to avoid arriving at my destination with my eyes very dry and/or crying. It's manageable but quite tiring.

I've just bought a pair of Decathlon Perf 500 (these) and while a tiny bit better my eyes still suffer from the cold wet air.

Is it because I haven't found the right pair that would suit my eyes, or do I need in an expensive pair if glasses?

I'm seriously considering some kind of ski mask or closed off goggles, even if I'd look like a donkey lol

Any advice would be great!

This is the reason a #Shimano XT #derailleur costs more than a Shimano Alivio. On the left you have the whole-body slop of an Alivio M3100 derailleur. On the right you have the same of an XT M8000. There's noticeable slack in all the pivot joints of the M3100. There's no noticeable slack in the XT. It feels like a single piece. The result of this difference is misshifts like going one gear higher then back to the desired one, or otherwise some shifts taking longer between gears.

There's a second video in the original post showing the XT derailleur.

I had to drive around 1500km this past weekend in a rented mini-van. I don't own a car, so that's probably more distance than I've covered in a motor vehicle in the past 5 years.

Today, back home and on my way to work, there was rather torrential rain, but I was still so thankful to be back on the bike.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford is very car-brained and really, really hates bike lanes. His base is in the suburbs of Toronto and anything that impedes cars gets him wound up. He wants to rip out recently created bike lanes in Toronto. He also banned speed cameras as they were working as intended. 🤷

He also has another proposal for an expensive tunnel to go under a busy freeway: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/doug-ford-hwy-401-tunnel-campaign-promise-1.7453508

I only got the one side done tonight, it's tougher to Dremel through a nickel than I thought, and also pretty tough to properly jam half a wine cork in there.

I also know I need longer and beefier wood screws, I'll cross that bridge later, I just used what I got handy for now.

Yes my hand is healing up fairly well already, I'll probably be more or less fully healed up in about a week or so.

Randomly, in the spirit of Halloween, I figured I'd share my mostly minor mishap today. It happened on my spare junker BMX bike today while doing front end spin around sort of balance tricks.

Apparently I need to get some end caps for my handlebars, the sharp uncapped handlebars are what cut me. ☹️🤦

Edit: Don't mind the wristband, that's a 1.5 pound sandbag weight to help exercise my left arm.

Hi!

Does anyone know if the Bryton Gardia 300L Radar fits on a Garmin mount? Or do I need an adapter? I know it is rotated by 90° but this is not a problem since I can turn my current Garmin mount plate.

Previous post

Got AliExpress copies from 5dev cranks, and a steel fork for the bike. Also just testing a flatbar on the bike.

The bike feels super fun in "pub cruiser" way, but holy fuck is it dangerously twitchy on trails! Superb fun in the most derogatory way, but I'll throw the drop bar back for now, more comfy on my longish 40k commute
