...and college in the US isn't even affordable, in spite of all its bloodmongering

Not sure if this is the right community to post this, but I'll give it a shot.

One of my very good friends is planning on going into the Navy in about a year. He's generally a moderate left leaning kinda guy, but is trans. He comes from a navy family which is part of the reason he decided to go in the first place. He's going into mechanics and stuff and not combat which is slightly better I guess, but it's very concerning to me that he's planning on joining especially because he's trans. I also feel that ethically, actively participating in that system is bad.

How can I dissuade him from joining? I don't wanna go full force argument mode because it's ultimately his choice but I would like advice on how to softly nudge him away from it without affecting our friendship negatively. Thanks.

I really hate posting direct links to Twitter, and I've never even cared for Macklemore, but this track is legit (and so far this is the only platform where it's available)

Posting blatantly fascist remarks like "at least it's [insert marginalized groups here] who are being murdered and not me" will get you permabanned with no appeal.

When you comment, please imagine a Palestinian, an immigrant, an LGBTQIA+ person, a BIPOC, or some other marginalized group will see it. That should provide a good litmus test for whether what you're about to comment is wildly offensive.

The liberals are already gloating that roughly 70% of their party believes the fascist lie of a "border crisis," so that makes it clear that Democrats are not opposed to these atrocities, as we've been led to believe. Just more liberal lies.

But they'll sure blame us when Biden loses, even though they are discounting us now...

Highlighting an essential defining part of the term "harm reduction" so that no one misses this:

and yes, there is a part of harm reduction that is aimed at not moralizing about the behavior that you're trying to reduce harm from. but if you're a progressive - as most of the people lecturing us about "harm reduction" purport to be - you should already understand that these behaviors are not ethically bad in and of themselves. it is not inherently unethical to use drugs or be sexually active as a teen, so the fact that harm reduction efforts could "encourage" that behavior is also not unethical! if you think that it is, then you're actually a conservative!

Obviously, this would not apply to, say, a fucking genocide

I'm sure someone will find a way to call the phrase "designated dingus area" and the use of chalk "antisemitic"

Don’t forget that basically half the country thought the students deserved it…

Btw half of the students killed at Kent State weren’t even protesting, they were just there

HIGHLY RECOMMEND to read this article. Not only is it important to lend context to the current situation, but you should be able to easily extrapolate from this some of the reasons why we cannot fix the system from within. It is unsalvagable.

Genocide Joe: Responsible for more death than the worst serial killer in history

There's an honest campaign slogan for you. (Actually, his supporters would probably love it.)

Very weird that I am so old and have literally never heard this mentioned in a TV show or book or movie or anything.

In four out of five states, if you go to prison, you are literally paying for the time you spend there.

As you can guess, this results in crippling debt as soon as you're released.

The county gets back a fraction of what they hold over your head the rest of your life until you commit suicide(or die naturally and peacefully with the sword of damocles hanging over your head).

$20-$80 a day according to Rutgers.

Counties apparently sue people and employ wage garnishment to get back the money that majority of people obviously cannot pay back.

watched some of the livestreams last night. the protestors were peaceful, and repeatedly and loudly telling each other not to be violent, not to throw things.
