  • Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent 2
  • I'm in Love with the Villainess

Any recommendations are appreciated 🥰

Dragon Ball Daima, a new series based on Akira Toriyama’s beloved manga series, is set to release in fall 2024.

Xitter user @dbshype posted a video from New York Comic Con showing the teaser for Dragon Ball Daima, which features Sheron, as well as Goku and Vegeta becoming children, which is giving me major Dragon Ball GT vibes. You can watch the video below, though fair warning: There’s a lot of swearing and shouting. You can’t really hear the trailer, so I recommend keeping your sound off to save your ears.

DRAGON BALL DAIMA ANIME OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED!

Fall 2024

Pictures
— Hype (@DbsHype) October 12, 2023

No specific release date for Dragon Ball Daima was given beyond fall 2024. More information is set to be revealed sooner rather than later. However, @dbshype was able to confirm that Toriyama is involved in the production.

Created by Toriyama, Dragon Ball began serialization in 1984. Since then, the franchise has grown into one of the most popular anime series of all time, with various films, tie-in video games, and other media. I myself am a massive fan of the Dragon Ball franchise, like so many other men my age, and credit it with getting me into the world of anime. I’ve covered it pretty extensively at other outlets, and you better believe I’m going to do that here at The Escapist until they tell me politely, but firmly, to stop.

The news, though, may come as a disappointment to some fans. Dragon Ball Super, which aired from 2015 until 2018, was generally well-received by fans. However, it seems now like the series is unlikely to ever return. It also appears that many of the stories that have since taken place in the manga, like an arc involving the deadly intergalactic villain Moro, will not end up getting adapted for the screen, at least not yet.

Dragon Ball Daima is slated for release in fall 2024.

Crunchyroll brings the latest film from the iconic director back to theaters later this month

Crunchyroll is announcing today that Makoto Shinkai's 2022 film Suzume will have a special re-release in North Amcerican theaters beginning Friday, October 27. Sony Pictures Entertainment will release the movie in over 200 theaters across the United States and Canada in both Japanese with English subtitles and English dubbed formats.

Tickets for the re-release can be found at suzume-movie.com.

Known as Suzume no Tojimari in Japan, the film had its international premiere in February 2023 at the Berlin International Film Festival, grossing over $300 million worldwide during its initial run.

Shinkai announced Suzume on December 15, 2021, with the film scheduled to release in Japan on November 11, 2022. Shinkai directed and lead the screenplay for the film, with Masayoshi Tanaka returning as Character Designer, Kenichi Tsuchiya as Animation Director, Takumi Tanji as Art Director, with animation production at CoMix Wave Films. Suzume is Shinkai’s 13th directorial work, following Weathering with You’s release in 2019. Shinkai’s earlier works also include Your Name., The Garden of Words, Children Who Chase Lost Voices and 5 Centimeters per Second.

Crunchyroll, in coordination with Sony Pictures and Wild Bunch International, initially released Suzume theatrically worldwide in April 2023. Crunchyroll describes the movie:

“Suzume” is a coming-of-age story for the 17-year-old protagonist, Suzume, set in various disaster-stricken locations across Japan, where she must close the doors causing devastation.

Suzume’s journey begins in a quiet town in Kyushu (located in southwestern Japan) when she encounters a young man who tells her, “I’m looking for a door.” What Suzume finds is a single weathered door standing upright in the midst of ruins as though it was shielded from whatever catastrophe struck. Seemingly drawn by its power, Suzume reaches for the knob… Doors begin to open one after another all across Japan, unleashing destruction upon any who are near. Suzume must close these portals to prevent further disaster.

—The stars, then sunset, and the morning sky.

Within that realm, it was as though all time had melted together in the sky…

Never-before-seen scenery, encounters and farewells… A myriad of challenges await her on her journey. Despite all the obstacles in her way, Suzume’s adventure shines a ray of hope upon our own struggles against the toughest roads of anxiety and constraints that make up everyday life. This story of closing doors that connect our past to the present and future will leave a lasting impression upon all of our hearts.

*Drawn in by these mysterious doors, Suzume’s journey is about to begin.
