For those interested in the Vision Pro, let me know what questions you have about the device. I’ll be getting mine this afternoon and will be trying out all the features.

Wrote books on Apple software. Bought five figures of gear over decades. Then bought an Apple giftcard, & suddenly permabanned in spite of raising issue with internal contacts.

Title goes to the OS News summary of the news. Here's a link to the forum post that explains how this was achieved: https://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=7711.0

I need to create an Apple account since yesterday. At first I got the error message "Your account cannot be created at this time." right away. So I waited until the Cloudflare outage was over.

After that, I could submit the request, received codes via email and text message. But when I enter the code from the text message, the error message "Your account cannot be created at this time." appears again.

The service "Apple Account" is marked green on Apple's status page. The email address and phone number are working, as they both received the codes.

Given Apple's current locked-down trajectory with the Mac, the Mac Pro was gonna die eventually, and it's for the best that it does given it was reduced to little more than a massively overpriced Mac Studio grafted onto a useless PCIe backplane; a $12k grift, basically.

PCs at least are still modular and expandable; for now.

The picture above is a mockup of what happened this morning as I didn't take a screenshot.

I was browsing Wikipedia when I noticed a round, "Apple Intelligence"-like icon hovering over the web page.

When I clicked on it to see if I could dismiss it, it disappeared and never came back.

What's super weird is that there is absolutely no documentation on Apple's website, yet it didn't feel part of the webpage itself as it very clearly spilled over the edge of the page when navigating back.

Does anyone know what it is? Thanks!

Okay, I'll admit, this mostly applies to the iPad Pro. The cheaper iPads offer options to people who don't need more than just the iPad, and if it works for them, that's great!

And I'm sure there are people that get by just fine with just the iPad Pro and a phone, too. But, for the majority of people that consider getting it, it is ONLY needed because Apple is too stubborn to incorporate elements of the iPad into MacBooks (or even vice versa!)

As a student that needs access to running some computer programs, if I wanted an iPad for notetaking, barring accessories like AirPods, I would have to take:

My phone

My MacBook

AND My iPad

This is just clunky. Keeping track of 3 batteries every day is annoying, and having to take out the MacBook and the iPad on a desk to do computer work and Pencil notetaking is just clunky.

The iPad doesn't need to exist. If the MacBook had a touch screen (or even just Apple Pencil support) I wouldn't have to worry about taking the clunky iPad with me for notetaking. But they won't because they're stubborn. Hell, if the iPad supported third party apps or MacOS apps, this could even go the other way around and I could ditch the laptop!

Neither of those will likely happen, though.

I'd pay more for a MacBook that can fold 180 and turn into an Apple Pencil supporting iPad, but they likely won't offer it anytime soon and I'll be stuck with an additional device that doesn't need to exist.

Just like how the iPhone took the role of the iPod, I hope that the MacBook takes the place of the iPad soon.

Can anyone else think of a better reason for the iPad to exist other than Apple's stubbornness? Only one I can think of is mobile gaming, and honestly, I still prefer the convenience of my phone.

Props to this small indie developer who’s worked tirelessly to launch this relatively unknown app promptly on Apple Watch
