It's really cool seeing a hardcore bigfoot who loves killing instead of just a shadowy figure that hides in the woods and makes weird noises like most yeti flicks. Jeffrey Combs is unrecognizable as a hillbilly on oxygen who still smokes and I always enjoy a wooden, deep-voiced Lars Henriksen appearance, even a badly casted one like here. The gore is great and though the film drags quite a bit when it comes to the back story of the protagonist, there is a one of a kind head biting scene in this that more than makes up for it.

This is one that definitely doesn't hold up when viewing as an adult vs dumb kid me. It's a modified ripoff of Ender's Game with some decent practical fx but a wholly unsatisfying story. There's a lot I can forgive such as a bunch of old people living in a trailer park who actually cheer and give a shit that a teen broke his record on an arcade game in the middle of the night, or that an alien being replicant who acts like a soulless automaton could fool anyone into believing it's a real person. What I can't forgive though is that in 1984, the absolute heyday of scale models, matte paintings, and practical fx, this film chose to use the most absolute primitive dogshit CGI for its space scenes that I've ever seen in my life. They are absolutely ridiculous and totally take you out of any kind of mood you're in, not even close to being convincing. I'd prefer anything else, a flying saucer on a string Ed Wood style, stop motion, whatever, but this is terrible. Why?

I kinda love this movie. It's a dying/dead breed of the type of movies they used to make in the eighties and early nineties, a horror movie with a kid protagonist. The Gate and Monster Squad come to mind. A lot going on here, and half of it doesn't make sense, but it's a wild ride. From gimp suits to incest to hidden treasure to hard core gore, very surprised I haven't seen this before. Definitely not what I expected.

Maybe the perfect 80s teen drama, I hate that I didn't see this when I was younger. Both Helen and Christian Slater (no relation) are great and the soundtrack is awesome. This is a huge shot of nostalgia for me, and also since I lived in Corpus Christi where this takes place I could really relate. The plot itself is not really anything special but the characters make you root for them. I will say yes it is corny and totally unrealistic but most movies of this era were so I give it a pass.
