I feel like Transmetropolitan is already well-known so I wanted to recommend a lesser-known comic.

Tokyo Ghost takes place in a cyberpunk future where the main character's boyfriend is a tech-addicted junkie so they go to the last remaining nature preserve of Tokyo in an attempt to get him to detox. It... doesn't go well.

If you have a US library card, you can read the entire series on Hoopla for free. And, I don't know, you can probably read it on comixology too.

An interesting article that talks about the genre and culture from the perspective of 1993.

This is the cover story from the February 8, 1993 issue of Time magazine.

This game is supposed to come out Q1 2024. I have no idea if that'll actually happen, but it looks like it could be fun.

What would you say are the best old-school cyberpunk video games?

Note that I don't actually care if it's the "best", I'm just looking for some fun older games to play. So give me something better than Raid 2020 and I'll call it a win.

I'm thinking things like:

And just to prove they don't have to be GOTY contenders....

So yeah, give me some recommendations from the NES/SNES/N64 era (I'm not convinced there's anything worth playing from the ZX Spectrum/Commodore 64 era). Maybe some Arcade (MAME) games too? I can't think of any cyberpunk arcade games.

I've never played Omikron: The Nomad Soul or BloodNet before. Not sure if they're worth my time.

This is a fantastic audio drama of the Neuromancer novel. They're taking a 9 hour audiobook and compressing it into a 2 hour play so some things are lost, but the voice acting is really good. Recorded in 2002.

Goku is a private investigator who's given a cybernetic eye that grants him god-like control over every single electronic device on the planet. And he uses it to... solve cases.

I'm not going to say this anime is especially "good" but it's certainly weird. Yes, that is a girl with motorcycle handlebars attached to her shoulders in the image. But it's only 2 episodes and I like when it isn't a major commitment to watch something.

You can watch the entire series on Tubi or Freevee (Amazon Prime).

Written 30 years after the novel was first published

Jodie Foster, Dave Bautista, Charlie Day, Jeff Goldblum... and very few people have even heard of this movie. It definitely takes place in a cyberpunk future but there aren't many cyberpunk visuals since the majority of the movie is inside the hotel.

I have very little idea of how many people outside of villa-straylight can see the posts from here. I was just a bit curious if it's just the hundred folks from here, or several thousand from random other instances

This is a cool video I saw with a moving scabbard and cool blade!

This video is a bit old since it mentions the "new" series Altered Carbon and Mr. Robot but it does a great job of explaining the origins and ingredients that led to cyberpunk.

It's a shame the second half of the movie had all that 'elevator through the center of the planet' nonsense. It started out really fun.

I don't know how many people here listen to industrial metal but I think the line:

I don't care if you live or you die,
As long as you're willing to BUY

is perfectly cyberpunk.
