Doom/sludge metal from UK, linked is the first track of their second album of theirs released in 2016. Mammoth Wizard Weed Bastard officially shortened their name to MWWB in 2020. Album's name is in Welsh and translates to "The False Prophet."

Crushing under massive fuzzy stumpy hooves, while sang at by the voice of a flighty angel. Also has some synth fuckery going on while you're tripping, just for the extra WTF factor.

From Belgium, we have this atmospheric sludge/post-metal band releasing their second album in 2011. They changed their name, after their fourth album, to Stake in 2018 and have released two more albums since, still in the same style.

Linked is the opening track with a rather humorous set of lyrics, but the music itself is definitely sludgy post metal; has a nice crunchin beat to bob your head with and tell everyone else to suck your fucking cock lmao.

Quite the record. But we're talking about the track, you can find the album "Works Will Come Undone" on youtube.

And well, it is something. "dawn... into day... into dusk... into dark... into dawn... into day... after day." there's of course the Cello, which adds a unique flavor to their sound.

Progressive folk/doom metal from Switzerland. This single released in 2021, seems to be the latest release of anything as of right now. Reminding me a lot of a more doom-y, more folk-y Nightwish with the gothic and theatrical elements, but a lot less power metal. A small handful of the members of this group, including the vocalist, were in fellow Swiss melodic death/folk metal band Eluveitie, if anyone has any sort of familiarity with them. Music is dark and contemplative, a nice selection of other instruments that one would use with folk music, like a hurdy-gurdy lol. I feel it comes together nicely.

Edinburgh, Scotland's epic doom/heavy metal band. Second album of theirs released in 2020. Linked is the opening track, also the title track. Probably the fastest track I'll ever link here lol - definitely kicks your ass in the percussion and instrumentation. Got some powerful vocals from Laura Donnelly, and they definitely standout among other artists in the genre. My favorite of theirs is track one from their 2025 album III, Suffer in Life.

I CANNOT get enough of Pentagram recently. The past few months they have been one of my top artists. Even bought Relentless on vinyl.

This post is a tad unusual from me, as it would not normally be my style. But I find this song so goddamn GORGEOUS. The beautiful main riff to this song has been stuck in my head all day, without showing any signs of leaving. I could've also posted this in !heavymetal@lemmy.world or even in a hard rock community (if that even exists? Lmk...) but I feel it has enough doom in it. It is one of Pentagram's really old songs from way back in the 70s, so it totally carries that vibe.

So yeah. Not sure why I picked this over the million other amazing Pentagram songs, especially those with either more doom influence or that are more my style. Well... Probably because it's stuck in my head ( >д<) . Ahh well, enjoy regardless. 🤘

Beautiful atmospheric sludge/post metal coming from London, released this debut in 2009 and I'm surprised it took me this long to discover. It scratches a nice itch in absence of Elder releases. Great songwriting and structure throughout the whole album, which is mostly instrumental - though the track I link has these nice vocals that fit the music perfectly, and they're fairly unique but at the same time satisfies that Elder need, like I said before this long run-on sentence. xD

Cavernous, tortuous death/doom from Costa Rica. I highly recommend.

Atmospheric stoner/sludge metal from Savannah, Georgia, USA - and close friends with Baroness, so they share a lot of DNA with their ideas and sounds. Vocalist here, Laura Pleasants, also provided vocals for that one upload I did a few months ago called Slower, so for fans of that, it might feel a little familiar!

Beautiful sound to completely get lost in - a hazy mist.

The first album by this collaboration floored me when it came out, so I've been waiting eagerly for this second album to come out. Somehow it manages to feel both deeply personal and also universal.

I love Bell Witch. I've already listened to Mirror Reaper and The Clandestine Gate. There's something about Bell Witch's music, that compels me to breathe in the rhythm of the music. I felt that at the first track, I just started breathing, slowly, try to breathe with Bell Witch music, maybe you'll understand what I mean.

I would of course, recommend the entire album, but if I had to choose some tracks to hook you to it, I'd choose the second track Rows (Of Endless Waves) and the fifth track I Wait.

Bell Witch are an absolute must for any funeral doom fan, especially Mirror Reaper.

From Germany, released in 2024, we have this stoner/doom band with fem vocals and it comes together nicely, creating a nice dreamscape dripping with beautiful atmosphere which is crisp and hazy all at the same time. I've noticed a shit load of female-fronted stoner bands recently, and I wonder if that's some sort of trend? It's not exactly recent, but it seems to be picking up in popularity; I don't have data to back this up, but my vibes tell me so lol.

Haunting atmospheric doom/sludge metal (doomgaze?) with this wonderful ethereal vocal performance unlike others in the subgenre. Has this depressing drone that does make it a bit repetitive, but when the mood hits, it's just right. Did not receive favorable reviews on Metal Archives but fuck em.

It's bleak and hopeful, sad and beautiful, and the tracks just spell that out. Like the riff at the start is quite bleak, and there are many moments where you feel like there's a "ray of light". It's quite short 40 minutes, the entire thing is unique.

We've got those depressing riffs at "O Brother", that beautiful instrumental "Funus", and the chilling and comforting vocals at "Humanity" and the end "Obliviosus", so I played this yesterday without paying full attention to it. I played it this morning on random, and when "Obliviosus" came, you can feel that this is "Final track of the album" material.

Might as well read the description for the album

"This album was written about my brother and for my family. addiction, substance abuse, near death experiences, loss, grieving for the undead. Drugs that make you Oblivious to the pain it's causing elsewhere."

One-man funeral sludge metal project from Salem, Oregon, USA. Not to be confused with the NWOBHM band of the same name.

Direct assault with abrasive bricks to the face, covered in high grit sandpaper. One after another, in a steady repeated rhythm. Until the final quarter of the song - then it lets loose, kicking up the speed and crushing with cinderblocks instead.

This will always be an important album for me. One of my firm favourites.

Progressive stoner/sludge metal from Sweden. Multiple different vocal deliveries keep parts of the music fresh, but the reason I'm sharing this is the near-virtuosity of the instrumental sections, with a heavy psychedelic feel to them. Linked is the closer to their second to last album released in 2021. They split up fairly recently :/

Atmospheric sludge/post-metal from Stockholm, Sweden. Album released in 2015. Despite having this heavy, crushing feeling and ethereal atmosphere, it's just not listed on Metal Archives.

One of my absolute favourite songs: "Scent of Death" by doom legend Solitude Aeturnus.

IMO the best doom metal band of all times what can be credited to 50% to their gifted singer Rob Lowe.

Solitude Aeturnus have only published classy albums and mostly got better every time. To realise at some point that they would not be able to maintain this quality quitting to publish new material. Pity, but I’m sure that even helps in becoming legendary.

Epic doom metal with divine singing, depth and melody en masse.

Atmospheric and heavy, ominous and sombre, we have this Swedish doom metal band that takes heavy inspiration from Candlemass and Krux, but with fem vocals. Titled and linked is the opening track from their debut which released in 2013.

A bit on the lighter side of what I wanna usually post here, but the riffs and grooves hit juuust right. Stoner metal/rock from Austin, Texas, USA with the heavy bass and riffing; voice is super accessible - sounding almost radio freindly.

Doom/stoner metal from Glasgow, Scotland. Debut LP released in 2017. Linked is the opening track. Got this ethereal voice that echoes through the mind as the buzz trips you till the psychedelics start to kick in lol.

Stoner-tuned traditional doom metal from Norway. This debut album released in 2014. Strong buzz with a great beat, voice is definitely trad doom, which doesn't kill the vibe at all. Some of the effects on the guitars are a bit psychedelic and trippy. All around a good time.
