Overview:

Electric Vehicles are a key part of our tomorrow and how we get there. If we can get all the fossil fuel vehicles off our roads, out of our seas and out of our skies, we'll have a much better environment. Summary:

Hull 096 [the ferry] is equipped with more than 250 tonnes of batteries and an energy storage system (ESS) with more than 40 megawatt-hours of installed capacity.

The ESS [Battery] is four times larger than any previous maritime installation in the world and is connected to eight electric-powered water jets.

"It's the future of short, sea shipping," Incat founder and chairman Bob Clifford said. "Today, the technology is good for 80 to 160 kilometres. It won't be long until it's good for 320km, and maybe in 10 years' time it's good for 640km. So the advancement of electrical ships is going to continue. [...] From the ship's berths in Argentina and Uruguay, a full charge was expected to take 40 minutes"

Sadly, the axis are not annotated well (at least in this screenshot). Latest data point is 2023, and 2019 is the last year where less than 50 models were available.

And as of this site, the US currently has less than 100 EV models for sale. I'm not sure how accurate this is, though.

Musk was adamant that low cost EVs were a waste of time. But high quality low cost EVs have a chance to change the world for the better.

there’s a clear factor dividing which countries are seeing faster EV adoption and which are going slower: openness to Chinese carmakers.

Brazil saw EV sales soar more than 500% from 2022 to 2024, Thailand’s EV sales jumped 279% over the same period, and Mexico saw similarly rapid growth. Australia was another standout growth market, with EV sales up 145% in the last two years.

These sales patterns also challenge the idea that EV adoption will be led exclusively by wealthier countries. Thailand now boasts better EV adoption rates than the US, while Brazil has jumped ahead of Japan. Electric vehicles started out as a top-down phenomenon, but they’re quickly shifting to a bottom-up trend.
