American Fiction ... follows a frustrated novelist-professor who writes an outlandish satire of stereotypical "Black" books, only for it to be mistaken for serious literature and published to high sales and critical praise. ...

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 93% of 285 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 8.2/10. The website's consensus reads: "Jeffrey Wright and American Fiction will forever be inextricable thanks to the actor's committed approach to the pointedly humorous and insightful material."[21] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 81 out of 100, based on 54 critics, indicating "universal acclaim".[22] Audiences polled by PostTrak gave the film a 90% positive score, with 83% saying they would definitely recommend it.

Solid, thoughtful film with a couple metafictional twists. Makes several comments about race, book publishing, and film-making. But there's also a great story that's just about a middle-aged guy and his family. Plus it's pretty funny.

Michael Jai White is an underrated martial arts star, though he's been in a bunch of movies. He pretty much carries this one, which seems to be low-budget and was aimed for the streaming market. I think it was meant to start a franchise but apparently that fell through. Anyway it's still an entertaining movie if your expectations are low. White plays a troubled vet who goes to Brazil to take down some bad guys.

Rotten Tomatoes, a review aggregator, reports that 43% of seven surveyed critics gave the film a positive review; the average rating is 5.5/10.[5] Metacritic rated it 49/100 based on four reviews.[6] Frank Scheck of The Hollywood Reporter called it "a by-the-numbers thriller that mainly serves as a showcase for its star’s considerable fighting abilities".[7] Nicolas Rapold of The New York Times likened the film to a 1980s TV cop show and wrote that although White's character is likeable, he is not menacing.[8] Tom Long of The Detroit News wrote, "Falcon Rising is filled with so many action-flick cliches it could serve as a text on how not to do things."[9] Simon Abrams of The Village Voice compared it to Commando. Abrams wrote that White's character, despite his charisma, "comes across like another pseudo-heroic American behaving badly abroad".[10] Soren Andersen of The Seattle Times wrote, "Nothing new here, in other words, but White’s electrifying performance makes it all seem somehow fresh."[11] Charles Bramesco of The Dissolve rated it 3/5 stars and wrote, "Though Falcon Rising occasionally fails to distinguish itself from the glut of similar globe-trotting action potboilers, it succeeds on the merits of White's winning performance."

Average Lemmy enjoyer:

[The Silence of the Lambs] stars Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling, a young FBI trainee who is hunting a serial killer named "Buffalo Bill" (Ted Levine), who skins his female victims. To catch him, she seeks the advice of the imprisoned Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), a brilliant psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer. ...

The Silence of the Lambs was a sleeper hit that gradually gained widespread success and critical acclaim.[63] Foster, Hopkins, and Levine garnered much acclaim for their performances. Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reports that 95% of 153 film critics have given the film a positive review, with an average rating of 8.80/10. The website's critical consensus reads: "Director Jonathan Demme's smart, taut thriller teeters on the edge between psychological study and all-out horror, and benefits greatly from stellar performances by Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster."[64] Metacritic, another review aggregator, assigned the film a weighted average score of 86 out of 100, based on 20 reviews from mainstream critics, indicating "universal acclaim".[65] Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "A−" on an A+ to F scale.[66] ...

The film won the Big Five Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director (Demme), Best Actor (Hopkins), Best Actress (Foster), and Best Adapted Screenplay (Ted Tally), making it only the third film in history to accomplish that feat.

This movie's got a minimal plot and theme, it's mostly just a series of fight scenes. And the fight scenes have good and bad points. On the good side, the main actors are legit traditional karate experts so their movements and attacks all look good. On the meh side, the fight scenes are the sort where the bad guys attack one at a time and a single hit from a skinny schoolgirl will knock them out for several minutes. On the bad side, the movie does this thing where every so often an "instant replay" will show the most recent hit again. It's not even from a different angle ~~or in slow motion~~, it's just... the same thing again.

Overall, it's worth watching if you're into karate or low-budget martial arts films. It's available in a couple different languages:

This movie went straight-to-DVD, and... yeah, it's pretty bad. The acting is terrible, the fight scenes suck, and the special effects are very limited. But it does have a couple 80s New Wave musicians, like Martin Kemp (bassist from Spandau Ballet), Adam Ant, and Grace Jones. Also, Robert "Airplane!" Hays is the bad guy, James Hong (Mr Ping from Kung Fu Panda) has a role, and there are rebels that use Mac Pluses and those enormous IBM Model M keyboards. So if you expect something cheesy, it can be entertaining.

This is the Spanish version of Hard Times, one of the best films of 70s tough-guy movie star Charles Bronson. No English version available, sorry!

Hey, community guidelines say we can post dailymotion videos here! Good thing too, because this is a good one.

Even if you don't like lawyers, even if you don't like the military, even if you don't like Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, and Demi Moore, this movie is still worth watching. That's because the dialogue is solid. Probably because it started out as a play, and therefore doesn't rely on stunts or action or even great cinematography. If you've already seen it, watch it again, and try to see if you can find even one line of dialogue that you could remove, that would make things better. It's tough. Because every line belongs there. That's the truth... even if "you can't handle" it!

The plot follows the court-martial of two U.S. Marines charged with the murder of a fellow Marine and the tribulations of their lawyers as they prepare a case.
