It just seems that for 99% of PVE, going with power builds is just better than going with condi builds, no? Power builds generally have the same range of DPS as condi builds, but power builds have better burst access.

The only advantage I can think of is that building expertise helps with increasing soft cc (immob/weaken/etc.) durations but that's useless against defiant enemies. Defiance bars are also better dealt with hard cc (stun/knockback/etc.) skills (which also usually deals more power damage) instead.

Open-world / Dungeons - every build goes here since open-world and dungeons are on the easier side of PVE but the burst of Power builds makes mobbing encounters faster and way easier. Soft cc helps makes encounters easier but killing them faster helps more.

Fractals - Encounters generally having short-phases means power's burst is king and condi doesn't even have time to ramp up to deal good dps.

Strikes / Raids - Power and condi generally have the same range of DPS benchmarks. IMHO the thing that matters more here usually is being ranged over melee to be able to dps while moving for boss mechanics.

Thoughts?

So i finished my first legendary armour today and i though since you guys helped me out with tips a couple weeks ago i post the final result and add the things i did to help others.

So the whole process took me exactly 21 days, i had some essences already from when Soto was released, that helped me to get faster to the first piece, everythingelse i farmed and bought within those 21 days.

I also did not have the mastery for convergence and the large chests.

What did i do on a daily / semi daily basis:

  • Convergencies weekly and daily plus all 5 bosses CM in Soto once and 1 boss CM in JW once
  • Iluminate Nayos, Archipel, Amnytas about 3-4 times a day
  • Soto maps metas daily
  • Soto maps fluctuating magic daily
  • Fractals daily (i only did t3 since thats what i am at right now)
  • Strikes daily for gold same as fractals
  • End of dragon meta train for unidentified gear to get luck and ectos
  • Clear a full home instance through lfg daily
  • Trade all the possible provisioner token that i could (farmed the needed Materials during Illuminating Acheivments)
  • Opened every small chest i came across during meta and Illuminating achievment
  • Bought some trophy packs with iceshards from IBS Strikes

I hope this helps someone out that is grinding right now or wants to start but doesnt know where and how.

I will continue with the Tier 2 version of the armour which i deliberatly did not do parallely since i just wanted the full armour done.

Just for anyone who is curious here is what you need for the tier 2:

  1. Do the achievment Tier 2 Legendary Armor: Suffused Obsidian 3 times total
  2. Buy 1 Runestone of Suffusion for each time you complete it

To buy the Runstone of Suffusion from Junior Archivist's Aide Conri you need:

  • 2x Case of Captured Lightning
  • 2x Clot of Congealed Screams
  • 2x Pouch of Stardust
  • 5x Amalgamated Rift Essence

Hey everyone,

Today we are going to take a deep dive into cultural armour, how it works, how to get it and what achievements you get for it. Before we get started, I want to make one thing very clear: This is extremely expensive!

Cultural armour is unique to each race. This means that to complete the full achievements, you need an Asura, Charr, Human, Norn and Sylvari character. They can only be purchased by the character of the same race. There are three tiers (sets) of armour for each weight that has to be purchased for each race and there's two methods to acquiring the armour.

The first way is in the racial city from three different vendors for a combined cost of 128 gold 98 silver each. The second method involves going to a WvW Borderlands map or Eternal Battlegrounds and purchasing them from the Skritt Trader. The total cost of the WvW method is 3,224 Badges of Honour and 63 gold 49 silver and 12 copper each.

The total combined cost:

  • Racial Cities: 664 gold 90 silver [Sell back for 1/8 cost]
  • WvW: 332 gold 45 silver 60 copper and 16,120 Badges of Honour [Sell back for 1/4 cost]

If you're unsure about any skins you may have already unlocks, check here.

Asura Specialty Armors (16 AP)

Charr Specialty Armors (16 AP)

Human Specialty Armors (16 AP)

Norn Specialty Armors (16 AP)

Sylvari Specialty Armors (16 AP)

All of these sets cumulate into the final The Emperor's New Wardrobe (50 AP) collection. It rewards 10 AP per full set of racial armour, a title "The Emperor", as well as a core Mastery Point. This collection isn't for the faint of heart of weak walleted. But if you have an itch for skins or, with a total of 130 AP, are a completionist, this is a must-do. Enjoy!

I hope you enjoy and comment below if you have any other suggestions or ideas for future guides. If you're in the EU region and an achievement hunter, feel free to join the Discord filled with fellow hunters, tips and tricks.

Hey everyone,

The Design-a-Weapon Contest was a fun thing that ArenaNet did almost a decade ago and hasn't repeated since. With it, came three weapons: Favor of the Colossus, Eclipse and Scion's Claw. I wanted to bring attention to these three weapons because the collections were interesting, the graphics of the collection was nice and maybe ArenaNet will be inspired to do something like this again! It seems like there is a nice little story for each weapon for Bakkin, Xeniph and Nayeli.

Since it's just three weapons, they're relatively short collections and I don't want this entire guide to be a few paragraph, I'll be going more in-depth than usual with these. All the information is being duplicated from the Wiki so, as always (although I haven't said it yet -- oops), credit to them for putting in the work to create the pages in the first place and of course if you prefer reading the Wiki over my janky writing, that's completely understandable.

Favor of the Colossus: Legend Builder (7 AP)

  1. Ectoplasm-Infused Vision Crystal
  2. Dredgehaunt Cliffs tasks:
  3. Oiled Orichalcum Torch Head
  4. Imbued Oiled Orichalcum Torch Head

Eclipse: Guide to Greater Understanding (7 AP)

  1. Ectoplasm-Infused Vision Crystal
  2. Fields of Ruin tasks:
  3. Oiled Orichalcum Greatsword Blade
  4. Imbued Oiled Orichalcum Greatsword Blade

Scion's Claw: Healing Heir (7 AP)

  1. Ectoplasm-Infused Vision Crystal
  2. Dry Top tasks:
  3. Oiled Orichalcum Sword Blade
  4. Imbued Oiled Orichalcum Sword Blade

I completed these collections years ago. But looking back at them again, I think it's another great example of lore and a nice achievement being buried. The achievements are in the Rare Collections category but it's so huge, noisy and overwhelming that little gems like this easily get lost in the shuffle. These may not be high AP collections but they're nice little nuggets of lore and continue the process of adding more depth to the world. I really hope ArenaNet considers doing something like this again.

I hope you enjoy and comment below if you have any other suggestions or ideas for future guides. If you're in the EU region and an achievement hunter, feel free to join the Discord filled with fellow hunters, tips and tricks.

All squad had freezes in W8 yesterday, today 99CM is quite literally impossible to clear, freeezes for 5+ seconds. What is going on? New specs and new expac is cool and all but i'd like to be able to play the game.

Hey everyone,

This is another short one, but wanted to bring the order's collections to the surface. This slipped by me for quite a long time and it's expensive and a bit of work to get access to.

During your personal story, you have the option to pick one of the three orders to align with and have a special story with them. Once you've picked your order, you're able to access their secret location. For the Durmand Priory, it's their Library. Although the Whispers have the Chantry of Secrets which is available for everyone, certain parts are not fully available to you. The Vigil Headquarters is also accessible but limited.

This collection involves purchasing a total of 37 armour pieces and weapons from a vendor that will only talk to a character in the Durmand Priory. The total cost for the collection is 107 gold and 6 silver, however there is an extremely time consuming method included on the Wiki to reduce that cost.

Armor Requisitioner Secunda (in the Durmand Priory instance) and Arcanist Braccae (near the waypoint) are available to make these purchases.

Note: This achievement is required for Magister's Pack (5 AP).

This collection involves a total of 36 armour pieces and weapons from a vendor that will only talk to a character in the Order of Whispers. The total cost of the collection is 105 gold and 70 silver, however there is an extremely time consuming method included on the Wiki to reduce the cost.

Weapon Requisitioner Illiam (in the Chantry of Secrets) is available to make these purchases.

Note: This achievement is required for Warmaster's Pack (5 AP).

This collection involves a total of 37 armour pieces and weapons from a vendor that will only talk to a character in the Vigil. The total cost of the collection is 106 gold and 56 silver, however there is an extremely time consuming method included on the Wiki to reduce the cost.

Tactician Luzii (in the Vigil Keep) and Weapon Requisitioner Arto (in the Vigil Keep) are available to make these purchases.

Note: This achievement is required for Lightbringer's Pack (5 AP).

Magister's Pack, Warmaster's Pack and Lightbringer's Pack are required for Pact Reformer (5 AP).

Not much to say about this. Comment below if you have any suggestions for future guides. Check the returning player guide on the side bar to see other posts in the series.
